Ibanez Porn

Just acquired this rather lovely 1991 SR1500: [sharedmedia=core:attachments:238403] [sharedmedia=core:attachments:238402]
2. Hi all Just acquired a 1991 MIJ Ibby with a nutral finish, possible oil or wax but not sure. It's in pretty good condition but I'd llike to give the bass a bit of general clean etc. What's the bast way to proceed with body as I can't see anything specific about the original finish? Thanks in advance. Gratuitous pic: [sharedmedia=core:attachments:238403]
3. Bass finally landed on Friday. Had 10 minutes noodle and took it to a gig as I thought I might try a couple of songs with it; ended up playing it all night. Spec is (I think) One piece Padauk body 5pc Wenge/Bubinga nec Ebony board Gotoh hardware IBZ US pickups (I think these were made by Di Marzio) Ibanez Power Curve EQ (which I'm getting my head around)
4. I think one of Jon's looms is a given. There are a few pickup options, but check that you don't get the ones that are the same length for each 'half' e.g. the Aguilar ones. Talkbass thread here: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/replacement-pickups-for-fender-5-string-precision.887726/ There's some stuff in this thread too: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/squier-vintage-modified-precision-v-whos-got-one.1011452/
5. Scott is a very nice guy, he's on here as All Thumbs.
6. Chromes feel a bit stiffer to me. I prefer the TIs or for a cheaper set the Fender 9050CLs feel OK. I think the Fender strings are made by D'Addario so not sure why they might be so different to Chromes but to me they feel 'easier' to play.
7. I think the market is a bit odd at the moment in any case. I have had things on here doing nothing, then I pop them on evilbay with BIN & best offer and they have in the majority of cases sold for more that advertised on here. Even more odd that after fees etc I still made more that the price on here in at least half the cases. We're talking about 8-9 items overs the past 6 months. There's no doubt you get a wider audience, but maybe BC is not always the best place anymore. What do others think?
8. I think for me it would be my first proper bass, a pre-loved Spector Legend in Black Cheery; one of the original Legends with the P/J p/ups and 3-band EQ before they split the line into two versions. Sentimental reasons, but still a nice bass.
9.
Why? Have they gone off somehow? Or is it more of a precaution against fatigue breakage or something?
No strong reason to do so, but I note that the new set (themselves not brand new) have noticeably more 'life' and tone in them. I think the old set would still be great for a real vintage sound on a fretted bass (not disposed of yet btw).
10. OK, interesting looking bass. I feel the headstock might need to echo the body shape a bit more maybe? For me something like this but as a 4-string and with some different wood options:
11. Me too, great to meet you all and thanks to the organisers once more. Just to set the record straight the bass jam was not my work, I was hiding behind a pillar.
12. I'm just about to change a set of TIs that are about 4 years old.
13. That's great to hear. I love it when that happens.
14. Pics will of course follow.
15.
Ibanez
Yup, found an SR1500, the P/J version with the Power Curve EQ - the one with the 3k plus switch.
16. Not this time, funds on the low side! MIJ 1991 and not in any way Fender related.
17. What are the dimensions on the J pickup please?
18. It's going to be a long weekend...
19.
If you want to stick to Saxon or Anglo Saxon you will have to come and live in Newcastle or Northumberland. We still speak lots the original language and pronunciations. Geordie is not just an accent its a ancient language.
My Mum's from Whitley Bay so reasonable fluent.
20. Any incorrect use of the Saxon genitive is my particular frustration. Yes, proud OCD owner.
21.
My first one also - not really sure what to expect. Any seasoned bass bashers care to share what we're in for?
Well I've been to a few up in Moffat but the format there is a bit different given that the Saturday night is given over to drinking and curry and the Sunday is then about nursing hangovers whilst trying to pretend lots of bass playing is helping. I really enjoy them as you get to meet other bassists with common interests and illnesses (GAS). Sometimes I come away thinking I'm an OK player. other times my worst fears are confirmed (that I'm really am not very good on the bass), but that normally encourages more practice.
22. Not 100% sure which one this is :-(
