1. Hi Karl I have a Wenge board on one of my ACGs. Per instructions from ACG towers I used some of that ultra fine wire wool to get the gunk off and then just a little lemon oil just to moisten the cloth to clean off the dust. Worked a treat. Just to note the dust is apparently not at all good for you so no inhaling please. Gratuitous bass porn link: http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/portfolio/0178-recurve-4/
2. This used to be my bass and after I sold it I pretty much instantly regretted it and went out and bought another after a month or two. I had even asked paddy109 to give me first refusal if he ever sold it, but when this came up for sale I was already fully tooled up with SSS Js otherwise it would not have made it onto here. The neck is great and the satin finish really works well. I had the bass fully set up and serviced by Richie Thompson in Wigan (ask Karlfer if in doubt). He gave the fretboard and good clean and oil and it is now magnificent as well as general TLC. Do not hesitate folks this is a great bass and paddy109 is a solid citizen.
3. I've just swapped out the standard fit Sandberg single coils in my Cali 2 TT for EMG JVX (with some trepidation initially) and am now a total convert. Plenty of everything imho. The bass whisperer does a good review too.
4. As Stompbox really. Just bought some strings from Chris, good comms, great to deal with and swift postage. A credit to the forum, deal in confidence.
5. Bartolini Original Series P/J pickup set For sale is this set of Bartolini P/J pickups that I bought on here for a project that never happened. They have some light scuffing on the casings roughly where the string pass over them but are fully serviceable. The split coil Precision type pickup is an 8S. The single coil Jazz type bridge pickup is a 9J-L1, this is the noiseless humbucking version. Here is the link to the Bartolini website with specs etc.: https://www.bartolin...riginal-series/ The P pickup 17cm of cable to work with whilst the J pickup has 18.5cm of cable to use, so plenty for pretty much any bass I can think of. NOW SOLD THANKS.
6. Just sold some strings to Adam. Paid really promptly and a real pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended BCer.
7. Protoje also worth a listen.
8.
The Wigan Gargoyle is now sold out!
Nooooo! Surely not Karl?
9. Very distinctive, so hopefully it will surface somewhere shortly.
10. Ooooh, interesting, will have a listen later.
11. For sale are some very lightly used black D'Addario tapewound strings. They were originally a 4-string set and then I bought a B string which I promptly never used and which remains unopened in its packet. All the strings measure 37" from ball end to the start of the silk at the neck end. Overall string lengths and gauges as follows: B 135 brand new unopened E 105 43" A 85 44" D 65 45" G 50 43" A 5-string set is around £55 new so these are a bargain at £35 posted to the mainland UK. Thanks for looking and happy to answer any questions.
12. Just bought some strings from Ben, all good. Recommended BCer, thanks very much.
13. I believe Sandberg TTs have 22 frets (my Cali II does but can't vouch for the whole range). I think the Electra is very good value and well built if you can find one.
14.
I'm not sure using me to model the bass is a good idea, you might put folks off Eude
Is it true that you're 6' 10" and a former linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers?
15. Just acquired a gig bag from Nige; totally solid citizen as has been said many times. Thanks very much.
16. Can't believe this is still here. If only I could buy some talent to go with it
17.
Probably quite a lot, I would say. I would seriously doubt that the Fender branded ones are hand made by seasoned professional plastic carvers deep in the Appalachian Mountains before being wafted over Leo's signature to acquire magic.
Is that the northern Appalachian mountains or the southern Appalachians? I wouldn't touch those southern ones with a barge pole.
18. I listened to it three times on the trot last night (I know, I know, I should get out more) but it is magnificent.
19. I look after my gear too. My AGCs can be seen in the pubs and clubs where we routinely play. OK they're neither Foderas nor Sadowskys but I couldn't justify the price for one of those seriously high end instruments. I also have one cheaper bass that I will take to the one or two venue that are a bit 'lively'.
20. Apologies if this has been seen before but a friend told me about this and after having a listen tonight I thought I should share it just in case it has been overlooked somehow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_Va3e_52TE
21. A bit late in the day I know, but I have an ACG SEQ in a J Type bass. It has a volume/blend stack and a single filter knob for each pickup, kind of like two really good tone controls with what sounds like a broader sweep than the passive setup. There are some trimpots you can tweak inside but I've never felt the need other than to turn the peak overshoot gain right down.
