Why not ? It's got two of your actual split coil pickups (although not looking like them I agree). One has a Ceramic magnet and t'other Alnico.

I can strongly recommend this. Great venue, plenty of gear to try out; Dave Swift coming along; and the not inconsiderable matter of afternoon cakes provided by team Cringean, including the now legendary luminous green jelly ones. Curry night on the Saturday preceded by a dry sherry or two. What's not to like; roll up, roll up.

I love them, they are on all my fretted basses. The balanced tension thing works for me at any rate.

I have an ACG Jazz and a Warwick Streamer CV Jazz bass. Neither have an Alder body but both are great sounding basses and would be within your budget used. Just tried to post some pics/links but not managed for some reason. If you're near you are welcome to come and try them.
