1. 846 with a laptop mouse pad thingy.
2.
Is it Spinachglo?
I think that is the Rickenbacker version
3.
Very few players of any instrument are genuinely any good. The rest are basically winging it.
Damn, found out. Please don’t tell my band mates
4.
Yes I did think that might arouse your disgust! I think I'm in a minority in that I find modern coffee table basses attractive and I also love the Leo shapes and designs.
There's at least two us! Whatever any perceived faults, I think Leo's basses are all design classics along with the Gibsons and RICs. The fact they are all much copied is a testament to that surely?
5. I'm clearly far to liberal for this forum . I'm not keen on unbalanced basses with headstock diving to the floor when you play them sitting down. Similarly I don't really like very heavy basses. Hate is such a violent word though.
6. I routinely by singles so I can pick the gauges to get even tension. IIRC the B string on my fretless 5er is 130 (maybe 132).
7. Close To The Edge for me.
8.
I'll need to make up an extension cable though as it isn't possible for the tape to keep it on place on my Dingwall or jazz but that's no biggie. Maybe an idea to put these as orderable accessories if there's some profit in them?
Me too, not quite falling in the right place for my ACG basses. A great little unit though, and Chris is really easy to deal with and answers questions straight away. All good.
9.
3. Passive and active basses are very much like vintage and modern cars - the vintage ones have an intrinsic retro charm and vibe of their own, and since they are very simple things, there is less that can go wrong with them. Which is good. But would you really want to drive down the motorway in one? Personally, I'd rather be in the 2015 model with the beefy engine, comfy seats, stereo, aircon, satnav etc!
…and can be a sod to fix if they go wrong; not that any of mine have failed. Nor have I ever had to use passive as a failsafe, possibly because I change the batteries every year on the same day and I have those low battery warning lights.
10. Just acquired a Smooth Hound unit, will hopefully be landing at ead towers today.
11. I've been won over my recent Jazz bass acquisition in Daphne Blue; although I still like the classic 3TSB.
12. Definitely a personal preference in my view. I like active basses because I can make simple adjustments on the spot without having to go back to wherever the rig is. Passive basses on the whole end up being plugged into amplifiers with preamps so for me it's more about geography and convenience. YMMV
13. ...and will be delivered tomorrow. Exceptional.
14. Just ordered a wee beastie.
15.
Another track with members of the Meters and Lowell George, this time joined by Simon Philips on drums and, of course, the wonderful and much missed Robert Palmer.
Cracking CD altogether that one with the Meters as his backing band pretty muck.
16. Dan, that video review was very helpful; much better than the manual in fact. The one thing I've not quite got my head around is that with the more 'normal' (for want of a better word) pedals I'm used to they are 'on' or 'off', the Zoom unit seems to be on all the while, is that the case? A bit like a Terminator in fact. I've achieved the first up goal of having a particular effect I wanted that I've ABed with the 'Bypass' chain so I can switch it in and out as required, so many thanks for helping me to do that. Now Dan, where can I find your helpful video review of pension scheme alternatives to cashing in?
17. ACG Uber - but I'm really biased
18. Thanks boys. NoirBass I bought it my eyes wide open as my tutor was showing it to me at my last lesson. I could see it was quite complex but I rashly assumed the manual would be a bit more explicit with at least a glossary in it.
19. Cheers Dood, I'll certainly look them up.
20. Is there such a thing for the unit? I've tried reading the manual but I'm really none the wiser; I think this is becasue there is an assumed level of knowledge that I just don't have. The pedals I have used hitherto have been simple things with a couple of knobs that do what they say on the tin so something with more complexity I find a bit baffling really. Any help/councelling etc gratefully received.

Just acquired a Zoom pedal from Chris. Promptly posted and packaged to withstand a nuclear strike. Thanks very much indeed, top banana.

Jazz

My Road Worn Jazz now has a sister. A CIJ 62RI with an aftermarket proper cellulose 4-ply tort scratch plate.
23. I set the intonation on mine with a credit card edge. Since muscle memory also plays a significant part along with the Mk1 ears for me personally have the bass set like my fretted basses helps. No need to make things any hader than necessary?
24. The current collection updated.
25. Yup, Alan's PB pickups are awesome. Just keep pacemakers and small animals away from them.
