Just wondering what the thoughts of the BC hive mind are on this. I've been increasingly thinking of something along these lines, whether a 'value' item or something within the budget. For my simple brain a 4-string or maybe a fiver.

A bit left field maybe, but these older Spectors are pretty good. I have had a 4-string version and they were made at the time when Spector were having issues with a partner in the USA so were made in Korea under the SSD name. Very like the full US spec basses so excellent vfm (imho). [/quote] The reason I prefer 'light touch' compression to alter dymanics more than the sound is that this, to my ears at any rate, works really well with fretless basses. In fact I probably enjoy the light compression more than the ubiquitous chorus pedal. YMMV of course.

I'm rather attached to my Diamond Bass Comp. Quite mild compression but doesn't seem to loose much on the way through.
