2. As somebody who really doesn't get on with Fenders, I think it would be a tragedy if they did disappear as they are no doubt an iconic brand and responsible for a lot of good things generally. I agree with most of the above on the confusing model line-up, and the Fender logo being on the USA instruments only. FWIW I would also say that having set the benchmark for playable basses, they seem to just be trading off that without any real innovation. The number of Super Jazzes and the like that the boutique guys build must surely have been noticed at FMIC. Why don't they do some proper R&D and develop the next icon?
3. I'm slowly drifting towards two fretless and two fretted basses; each pair being somewhat different, be it construction or electronics and pickups for as much variety as possible. That feels about right to me, but I gues YMMV Atm I have three fretless and one fretted so decision point is approaching as the second fretted ACG is in build now...
4. Follwoing the thread above and having a read around, I went with a stacked knob set up, but from Kiogon on here. The caps were tailored to deliver a more 'Jaco' sound from the bridge and a more 'Jameson' sound from the neck pickup. I rather liked the set up as it does give you more options if you chose the R/C values properly. My personal preference is for the ACG/Dingwall 3-knob approach with a 4-way switch, volume and tone. Add in a couple of o/wound single coil pickups and you have some great options.
5.
.... My advice would be to keep one bass secreted away just in case .... Best of luck whatever you choose to do
Sad to hear. Of all the lovely basses you have, you have to keep the Dolphin.
6.
That is an absolute bargain for a Custom bass of this quality.
I refer to my earlier comment; this time 'in spades'. What an opportunity for some lucky person.
7. Thanks for the link. My personal fav is CTTE, first LP I ever bought.
8. A solid four. All ACGs; three fretless and one fretted. One further fretted ACG in build.
9. Met up with Andy to trade ACGs with a bit of cash from me. Really top bloke and as has been said many times above, Andy's a great guy to deal with. Thanks very much.
10. That is an absolute bargain for a Custom bass of this quality.
11. Specs here http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/portfolio/0166-custom-j-type-5/ So sorry to hear this has to go, beautiful looking bass.
12.
Or, if you want to deal in absolutes which are bound to piss someone off, BC is full of lowballing chancers?
Trouble is any commodity is only worth what somebody will pay for it, and sadly atm that is generally less than we assess its value.
13. It's a state of mind coupled with a point blank refusal to accept the reality of the situation in these chasened times.
14.
How about this bad boy ...
...heavy breathing..."We have located the Rebel Bass"...more heavy breathing
Nope, they're designed to get that raw edgy jazz bass tone so they're true single coil, but they're VERY quiet unless you've got noisy electronics. I've not had a problem until I bought my current house, I can't even plug in my wife's high end Marantz hifi amp without getting hum there. I'll still be getting SBs in my next ACG though, they sound fantastic! So in summary, not officially noiseless, but VERY quiet
True dat, mine are pretty much silent.
23. Cheers Kev. Very close call, might yet hang onto the bass if there's no interest.
24. Copying selling format from another post as it seems to me to be a really good layout in terms of presenting the information. The pics are from an earlier post as they are so much better then mine. If you want pics from me to corroberate the quality of the bass I would be happy to oblige. Construction: Body Style - Flamboyant Offset 5-string Fretless Body Wood – Mahogany with a Birdseye Maple top, dark veneer Matching Birdseye Maple headstock head plate and back plate with dark veneers Neck – 7-piece, Flamed Maple and Purpleheart (neck through body construction) Fingerboard – Ebony with quarter lines High mass bridge with adjustable string spacing Scale length - 34" Options fitted: Blue side LEDs Strap button behind top horn Quarter-lined finger board Gold hardware Dunlop Dual Design strap-locks fitted (original Schaller strap-locks included) Carbon fibre rods in neck Finish: Natural gloss finish; this shows off the Birdseye Maple really nicely. Electronics: Two Nordstrand Fatstacks into an 18v Schack parametric 3-band EQ system. Both the battery compartment and electronics cavity covers are made from matching mahogany. The controls are: Volume, pickup pan, treble boost/cut, mid boost/cut and bass boost/cut. A useful feature of this preamp is that the center frequency points can be set via DIL switches for all 3 bands. I have the schematics for all the settings. The bass has blue LEDs running down the side of the neck, not something I particularly look for in an instrument but a nice touch. The LEDs are powered by a separate battery and are illuminated by pulling the volume control knob. History: The bass was made in 2007 and I acquired the bass in a trade for my Dingwall AB1 a short while ago. This is undoubtedly a high quality instrument with a gorgeous slim neck and really flexible electronics package. Everything is original and in excellent working order. The neck is nice and straight and having made a minor adjustment to the action I know that the truss rod works well. The electronics package is really flexible and having played around with the settings extensively I can also confirm that this in fine fettle. The action is set quite low action, but there is scope to go lower still if that’s your preference. Bar a little unavoidable string wear on the fingerboard, the bass is in A1 condition. I cannot find any obvious dings or blemishes so the bass has been very well looked after. Weight/ergonomics: Pretty lightweight for a 5er at 8.5lbs according to my bathroom scales, the bass balances well on the strap and is very comfy to play. The neck is fantastic, slim and very comfortable to move around on. Neck-through construction allows easy access to the dusty end of the ‘board. There are two strap lock buttons on the bridge end of the body that allow further adjustability. Sound: VERY versatile with the comprehensive electronic package. You can get an extremely wide range of tones with the EQ and balance controls. Strings: Currently strung BEADG with D’Addario Chrome flat-wound singles; I chose the gauges for balanced string tension (40/55/75/100/132). The strings are around 6 months old so barely played-in in flat-wound terms. The base came to me strung EADGC with round wound string that are included in the sale. Case/bag: The bass comes with a Warwick hard case. Sale price and collection/delivery options: £1,500 collected from my house in Chorley (near M6/M62/M65). To buy a similar bass new today would cost around £3,000, so I hope that you feel the price offers excellent value and is based on a realistic assessment of the market for second-hand fretless basses. I am also happy to meet up or deliver within a reasonable range; please PM me to discuss possibilities. Delivery to your door using UPS or similar can be organised (at cost), although I would by far prefer to arrange personal delivery/exchange if at all possible given the quality of the instrument. Trade value: £1,700; this was what was agreed between us when I traded my Dingwall AB1 for the Sei. Why am I selling? This is a beautifully built and very flexible fretless bass. There are not many around, and Seis enjoy a loyal following. However there is a new fretless custom bass incoming and after a lot of contemplation I decided that this was the bass that has to go to avoid duplication of function and purpose. Trade/part exchange options: Although a cash sale is my objective, I am open to trade offers, but please note that I can only consider trades with cash my way. Trade-wise, I'd consider a quality 4-string fretless bass or possible an oldish Fender P or J bass. My feedback: Please see the links in my sig. below. Thanks for your interest. If you need any more pictures or any more details please drop me a PM and I’ll do my best to give you a comprehensive response.
