1. I saw TS supporting Alice Cooper at the MEN arena maybe 5 years ago. Scary; but Dee is good value as a front man though.
  2. F/T (or F/S): Mint condition Dingwall Combustion 5 This is a 2009 model in absolutely immaculate condition with no scratches, dings or missing finish that has been fully cleaned and a new set of Dingwall strings fitted. I have upgraded the pickups to the improved B Booster type as used in the Combustion II costing £150. The original pickups come with the bass too. SPECIFICATIONS:

Dingwall made in Canada FD3 pickups - (now upgraded to B Booster pickups)
EMG USA BT07 2-band pre-amp,
Dingwall USA strings
Alder body - 3 tone sunburst
Optional Grey Pearloid pickguard (£45 option)
Rosewood Fingerboard – 37" - 34" scale
Bone nut
Banjo frets
NOVAX® FANNED-FRET SYSTEM
Five piece maple neck
Controls - Volume, Volume, Treble, Bass
Weight 3.9kg/8lb 10oz
The bass comes with a decent quality padded gig bag. I acquired the bass firstly to ‘scratch an itch’ regarding the fanned fret system (of which I am now a complete convert ), and secondly to try my hand at a 5-string (rather less successful ). The bass is now for trade for something with 4 strings (or for outright sale). As for trade options it’s probably easier to set a few ground rules and then see what turns up:

Must be a 4-string please
Much prefer a natural finish or a burst
Nothing too heavy, up to about 9lbs or so max
Fretted or fretless
Cash either way is fine although I would probably prefer to trade up rather than down. Thanks for looking and here are the pics.
  3. That's a real shame, it's plain to see that you have invested significant time and energy in the band and I hope (meaning feel sure that you will) find a new project quickly. The music is not my personal cup of tea I'm afraid, but I can see that the band deserve a decent following. If I'd been closer I would be there to support. Best wishes to you all.
  4. The search continues. The Chromes were too heavy / stiff for my liking. If only the TI365s came with a sensible gauge B string...
  5.
As tubeway army may have said: Are trends eclectic?
Just accidentally snorted hot coffee. Not recommended fellow BCers, too many Health & Safety Issues; plus it ****** stings a bit too.
  6. +1 for MBL On the downside, I found out last week just how close by workplace is to Johnny Roadhouse. Damn!

    Moffat Bass Bash 7

Great weekend, enjoyed every minute. Good to meet new people and renew friendships. Thanks to all involved in organising the event.
  8. For sale a very lightly used D'Addario Chromes, gauges are 45/60/80/105. These were bought as single strings to get the more balanced tension that I prefer. The strings spent approx. 4 days on a bass with a 3 over 1 tuning peg arrangement and a 34" scale length. The string lengths are (from G to E): 42"/44"/43"/42". Thanks for looking.

    NBD - Funny frets
Crikey - didn't see that coming Mr EAD.
Me neither really, kinda snuck up on me.
  10. Talked myself into believing one of these Dingwall basses would be a great idea. It's a 2009 Combustion 5 in absolutely immaculate condition (from Mark at Bass Direct). So here goes... First impressions: Well put together; not too tricky to adapt to bearing in mind I have minimal 5 string experience as well; the neck feels great, very slim top to bottom a bit like somebody has stretched a Jazz neck sideways; the longer scale strings have a much bassier tone to them, just acquired some super long Chromes that i'm going to fit. If it's a keeper then I'm going to do something interesting with a new preamp too.
  11.
Strange reply, since the balanced tension strings aren't exactly completely new like the new 'flexsteels', but rather their standard strings in different gauges. Essentially all they have to do is just pick their gauges and packaging and they are pretty much there.
You could alway create your own set from single strings. Alternatively Circle K do steel BT sets or Ken Smith.
  12. I think there is some info on the dirty ash finish in the ACG threads in the Affliliates section but I can't locate it at the moment. My bass has a lacquer finish on top of the stain. You can still feel the grain though.
  13. This is the dirty ash finish on my ACG bass, but not sure how it's done. Maybe Alan could give you a steer? http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/portfolio/2881/
  14. I enjoy all my basses, even more so when listening to other talented people playing them.
  15. Great thanks for the info. I make that about 9.5mm so might just be enough.

    Moffat Bass Bash 7

Have just traded my G&L for a fanned fret Dingwall beastie (sorry Alan couldn't help myself). Will bring it up so you can all point and laugh at me.
  17. Can any of my learned colleagues advise whether the onboard Sadowsky preamp will fit a bass without a metal bellplate, i.e. are the pot threads long enough to go through a drilled holes in the bass body? Thanks!
  18. Ended up ordering some super long Chromes singles as couldn't find anything else that might have worked. Will report back in due course.
  19. Not much help on the Dingwall forum either. I notice there are some Payson ground wounds available, but the choice of gauges is very curious as the string tensions will be all over the place.
