1. Anybody in the BC community used flats on a 5 string Dingwall (34" E to 37" ? I'm guessing it might require either single strings purchasing or mixing up sets...
2.
I've been using proper Dunlop Straploks, not the plastic ones, for 25 years. Never had a problem. If you can find Allparts Straploks they are Dunlops at about half the price.
+1 for Dunlops in metal form.
3. +1 for ACG. Your best bet is to get in touch with Alan, tell him what you're looking for and he will give you an idea of the cost. Top bloke to deal with and really helpful.
4. Distance Selling Regs are your friend. You have 7 days to cancel an on-line type order.
5.
Shame you have to book an appointment. They do have a Sandberg 5 though.
Another fan of MBL. I like the appointment system; Drew will accommodate odd times and you are guaranteed to have his undivided attention rather than him looking over your shoulder to see who else may have walked in.
6. I have a set of Fender CL9050 flats on my JB-2 Tribby. Playing rock etc. Good combination, imho obviously!
7.
Middle with black scratchplate
This works for me too.
8.
just a thought...does the difference here refer to the string tension 'cos some of the gauges are the same..unless it only refers to the G string?
The numbers refer to the E and G string guages on the 4 string sets. If you look at the websites for the retailers it will show you the guages for the whole set and you will notice a few sublte differences between the different sets. 9.
Yes, I found that. I did think it was because 50-100 are closer in gauge than 45-105, but I believe CLs are 45-105, so obviously there's a different reason... perhaps to do with compliance... are the CLs particularly low-compliance (i.e. high tension)?
I think it is because Fender picked the guages particularly well for the CL (Custom Light) set at 45/60/80/105. I don't think they are particularly high tension at about 45lbs on a 34" scale, and to me they feel just right. Some of their other sets in the series have somewhat curious guages selected.
10. CL9050s for when I can't afford TIs. Nicely balanced tension across all the strings.
11. Ancient thread resurrection... The pickups mentioned here all seem to have the longer casing in the bridge position. Are there any noiseless Jazz with the same size casings neck and bridge? If not would buying two of the appropriate size be the same thing?
12. Paul just acquired a BTB unit from. Everything exactly as promised good comms etc. Thanks very much.
13. Looks like a beautiful bass. On the price thing, the price is driven by what somebody will pay for a good or service and can be relatively unrelated to the cost of producing the good or service. So if a $10,000 swing ticket still results in sales then that is probably the market rate for that thing with that brand. So very subjective, not sure I'd part with $10k for a bass personally .
14. Same as many above; one fretless, one fretted. All mine are 4-string though.
15. Loving the purple monster, great pickup and EQ combination imho. I can only begin to imagine what they might sound like in series.
16. I was hoping this was going to be a humerous one-liner
17. It's a single stacked knob system. I used it as a simple swap out for the tone control on a J type bass. The circuit board is small and in most cavities it's easy enought to find a place for the battery. The picture on the East UK website is the earlier version. The latest one that I have for sale looks a little different in that the knob is towards one end of the board rather than central and there is a mini terminal block now rather than soldering lugs. If you'd like some pics and dimensions etc that would be no problem.
18. I'd like to see a natural finish model too.
19. Cheers, but I like having CDs and just found their website so one is on its way I hope. I think it's an age thing as I've always loved album covers and although CDs are less good at this I still feel the need to own them. Mrs ead despairs.
20. Try Steve Earle - Jerusalem. Interesting CD in that it's not all about apple pie and Mom, but give Bush a fair old kicking on the way past. I think Steve stuggled for sales for a while based on the content.
21.
Have you heard GarethFlatland's band InFictions? I bought the album last year and it's wonderful.
Thanks for the heads up on this, not heard it but will be acquiring a copy once I find out where I can get one from!
22. I've had a Legend 4 (the original P/J with 3-band pre) that I owned for around 6 years so clearly something was right about it. Then an older NS-94 NT bass that I kind of regret selling. Thunderous tone, but sadly never quite got on with the painted neck..
