1. By the time the recordings are mixed, bounced, compressed etc I find it quite hard to tell what bass is being played.
2. Not a big Rotosound fan. I really wanted to like them being British made but just can't get on with them sadly.
3. Hi all A bit short notice but I can't make the gig tomorrow night so have two spares. Face value is £35 each or so, yours for £40 for the pair if you're interested. Cheers
4.
My buying decisions are utterly irrational... It pretty much goes : Oooo look a shiny new bass.... Better buy that... Hang on I've got several of these already, probably should have spent that money on something else...
Phew, not just me then.
5. +1 for Kiogon's looms. Really excellent and make any passive setup just light up compared to the junk that is often fitted as standard.
6. It's a 35" scale. Should have mentioned that
7. For sale is my Peavey Zephyr C4 bass. This a Europe only passive version of the Cirrus range and is somewhat rare. I believe they were made in Vietnam in late 90s and possibly into the early 2000s I think. Features include:

7-piece maple/mahogany through-neck (or 5-piece depending upon how you are counting)
Bubinga top and back with maple body (not 100% sure if it's Bubinga, it may be something else like Koa)
Rosewood fretboard
24 frets - in good condition
Chrome hardware
Two Peavey VFL high output humbucker p/ups
I have recently copper screened the cavity and replaced the harness with a high quality item from our very own Kiogon who used Alpha pots and a Switchcraft jack socket. The controls are separate volume and tone for each pickup giving a wide range of tones to suit all genres. New d'Addario EXL220BT strings just fitted. The bass has no issues and is in excellent condition, a couple of very minor dings but you wouldn't find them unless I told you where to look! The hardware looks like new too. This is a very nice bass that is not getting the use it deserves, so it's looking for a good home where it will be cherished. I'd be interested in trades too. Only rules would be that the trade would need to be a 4-string bass weighing less than 9lbs please. Oh, not blue either please - sorry all you blue bass fans. Cash available this end for the right bass. Priced to sell at £175 including a nice gig bag. Here are the pics:
8. I have worked in the logistics industry for a number of years and it is very variable. All the suppliers have good and bad days / experiences and the pressure put on the delivery drivers can be unacceptable. If at all possible I now deliver basses to people I have sold them to even if it's a 2-3 hour trip - the bonus is you get to meet some really nice BC folk. Even though the couriers are obliged to treat your parcel with due care, the caveat emptor (buyer beware) principle does still apply sadly, and ignorance (as in no Ts and Cs to hand) is not generally accepted as an excuse in law. You would probably have to demonstrate that you had tried hard to find the information. I would always consider third party insurance if the parcel is something you value and take plenty of pictures of the item and the packing process at all stages, not forgetting the finished box.
9. I suspect that, as with most things that appear to attract irrational opinions, it's due to general ignorance of the topic. Jazz doesn't form a massive part of my music library, but I do have a number of CDs that would probably be described as Jazz. I don't quite get a lot of the achordal freeform music, but I try - mostly unsuccessfully - to understand what is being played and why.
10. FWIW mine sold for a shade more on evilbay in the spring; grossly undervalued instruments imho. I confess to having some GAS for yours too.
11. I generally enjoy it. Although it's mostly the acts that get one song in the middle somewhere that make me prick my ears up the most nowadays.
12.
Yep - it's a Yamaha Billy Sheehan Attitude 3 Bass - nice, nice bass (like all Yammy gear really) I have a sad tale to tell about one of those basses, I may share it here on BC when I've recovered.......
Have you had enough therapy yet to air that one Mr B? It's not a sad tale readers, it an f***ing tragedy.
13.
That's just reminded me. One of the maybe "ludicrous" (for lack of a better word) things about the Audere is the battery check thing when you first plug it in. Silent, flashy blue light and then the preamp becomes live. I wonder how many people have stepped on their leads, haven't done the cable loop around the strap trick, bent down, plugged it back in... and then waited what must seem like a life time for the preamp to kick in again?
I think that is only on the Z Mode ones. The Classic one I had until very recently didn't have this feature.
14. Paul has just bought some strings from me. Quick payment, PMs, etc., a pleasure to deal with. Many thanks.
15. Paul recently acquired an Audere preamp from me. QUick payment, easy to deal with, many thanks.
16. I would rip his head off, quite slowly obviously.
17. For sale is a virtually new 4-string set of these light guage flatwound strings (39/56/77/96). Bought to do a comparisson with my preferred TI JF344s, they have been on a fretless bass for less than two weeks and are pretty much like new. The bass has a 3 over 1 headstock and a 34" scale. I also left around 4" of string past the tuning post so they should fit most basses of the same scale length. Happy to measure any strings if requested. Will come in all the original packaging too £25 posted. Thanks for looking.
18. I have a Peavey Zephyr bass and with its 35" scale length I'm thinking of fitting a detuner to the bottom string. Thing is, I've never done this before. So two questions really: Which is the correct on to 'match' what is there, and secondly is fitting them a simple process? I hope the pic is not to poor. Thanks in advance! 19. A second harness from John that has revitalised another bass. Prompt delivery to say the least, great value too. Cheerz Mr K.
20. OK, reporting back...The TIs are on a custom ACG with fancy EQ but I've been running it in passive as the La Bella's are on a passive ACG. Both basses are fretless, both have two humbuckers and both have ebony boards. Somewhat different body woods though. The feel of both sets under the digits is pretty similar as they have pretty much similar gauges, maybe the E string feels ever so slightly different. Tonally I'd say the La Bella's, to my ears, are slightly warmer sounding, and maybe do the treble slightly better. The TIs though do seem to have stronger mids. We are not talking about chalk and cheese here, I think the differences are noticable but don't slap you in the face so to speak. On balance my preference is for the TIs, even though they are a chunk more costly. It's hard to rationlise in any objective way, I just prefer the sound of them I guess. As an aside, I'm going to take the La Bella's off to keep them in good nick as they may well be of interest to others...PM me if you're interested otherwise I'll stick them on the marketplace.
21. They feel pretty similar to me, maybe the La Bella E is slightly harder, but it's a thing of degrees really. Both feel nice to the play though, and no noticeable additional effort needed for extended playing.
22. What's the weight of the bass please? It's oK, just answered my own question from your NBD thread.
