1. I have and use both, but as basses are regularly plugged straight into an amp (or possibly a preamp with EQ controls), so isn't it just about where you do any tone shaping?
2. I have a weird desire to acquire this bass NOT because of it's alleged provenance, just 'cause it looks like a bit of fun to do up. Any thoughts from the experts on the Antorianess and potential of it please? 3. Beautiful kids you have there! My ACG is due to have a little fretless brother (also ACG) very shortly. The ones with lines don't count though . Here's big bro. I'll post a family version when the next one lands... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:142928]
4. I upgraded my RBX270 with a 'fits a Fender' type heavy duty bridge from evilbay. Straight swap, very easy.
5. Looks very lovely. How much does the bass weight out of interest?
6. My Legend was the older version with the 3-band EQ and P/J p/ups, but everything else looks about right to me. The resident Spector expert is Cetera who may be along shortly....
7. They seem to sell out very quickly. I booked about 2 months before the gig and got 2 of the last 5 tickets. Mrs ead and I were obliged to enjoy the gig from entirely different sections of the auditorium.
8. Sold some straplocks to Mel. Super quick payment and great to deal with. Thanks very much for your custom.
9. Anybody catch the gig in Manchester last night. Great evening I thought.
10.
I just heard about these things earlier today. Raging. The GAFfer pickups sound like the perfect thing to turn a Mexican Jazz Bass into a howling monster. Any idea if there's a similar alternative? A split-coil humbucker in a J enclosure, preferably British-made, and, y'know, good.
I found these guys recently. Anybody on here bought anything? http://www.at-the-creamery.co.uk/
11. Very nice indeed. Does this bass have the 'scalloped' bits on the neck - sorry not sure quite how to describe them and, if so, are they a bit distracting when you fret a note?
12.
i've often wondered why some british luthier doesn't make a bass totally of native woods.
I seem to remember an ACG client discussing this - maybe it's on the ACG thread on here. Sorry can't remember exactly though.
13. Bound to be the next major development from Fender when they release the next [s]generation[/s] reissue of the Precision or Jazz ....leaving now.....
14.
I wanted a Jetglo 4001 (thanks to Geddy) when I was 12, after saving and combining birthday and Xmas presents-type of thing, I got one on my 16th birthday in 1980. It was ace.
My dream bass was a Jetglo Rickenbacker 4001 or 4003. I saved my pennies for around 4 years iirc. Found a nice 4003 near home and bought it. I was monumentally disappointed as I couldn't find a way to play it comfortably finger-style without removing the pickup cover, something I really didn't want to do because, as a shallow person, this completely ruined the aesthetic of the bass for me. That and the generally horrid bridge. On the upside I sold it after about a year for a good profit.
15. Having a bit of a clearout and I have a bag of assorted strap buttons and screws containing one gold pair, one black pair and three chrome pairs. I can't remember which basses these came off I'm afraid. Also a bag of two sets (4 buttons) of the Dunlop Dual Design buttons in nickel (chrome). £15 posted for the lot. If you'd like a pic please just say. Cheers
16.
Nonsense! It is a one bit digital process.
OK I think I understand where you are confusing analogue and digital. The control aspect of class D amps are often driven my MOSFETs which act like switches (or indeed by digital controllers), however these components are controlling an analogue waveform and you have to consider the difference between analogue and digital in terms of how they are quantised. The amps are not digital in the sense that they do not deal with discrete voltage levels (steps).
17.
Well a class D amplifier is digital in that its output devices are either ON or OFF, much like a digital computer. (Same as a switch mode power supply) That's the whole point. When off there is voltage across the output device but no current (hence 0 watts dissipated in the output device). When on there is a high current but (ideally) no volts across the device (hence 0 watts again). Hence the low heat generation.
There is much to disagree with in those two paragraphs.
18.
I think you'll want the lightest gauge available in the labellas ( think they do heavy medium and light in the Deep Talkin flats). I will confess an ulterior motive here in that I would like the opinion of a TI user that tries the light guage labellas before I waste my own dosh - so let us know how you get on!
I'm normally a TI user for my fretless bass but am just about to pull the trigger on a set of La Bella 760FX strings for a newly acquired fretless bass. You may of course have already acted, but if not I'll report back in a few weeks.
19.
An electronics engineer (an authorised service engineer for the likes of Yamaha and Ampeg) explained to me the difference between digital, solid state and valve...and it made complete sense why people say class D is good but just lacks something. Suffice to say I won't be buying one in a hurry. He also explained why they can be unreliable. Just to add, I'm probably one of the weediest, skinniest blokes on earth and I've also got a bad back due to work. However, I don't have any problems moving my Ampeg cab around, it weighs over 35kg. COME ON YOU LOT, MAN UP!!!!!
A switched mode power supply is probably more reliable than something with valves in, more so when they are being lumped around. However there are books on Class A, A/B, D etc so probably not worth getting all hot and bothered about it on here (electronic degree here so some knowledge of the internal gubbins). Each to their own.
