Last price drop.
  2. Please pardon my ignorance, but what is math rock? Can't speak for the PJ Wizards, but I owned a Jazz with '64s in that were really sweet.
  3.
I had 2 Ford Focus estates before I took up bass again. So may be the title if this thread should be " Why do so many Ford Focus owners play bass?" Mind you I got my first one because my youngest daughter was still at Uni. I was able to fit her drumkit and all her other crap in it at the end of the year.
Strikes a chord! The lovely Mrs ead has a Focus estate and I have a Mondeo estate - and not forgetting the two kids at different unis, one with a drum kit and a xylophone.
  4. Thanks for these. My phone is Android based so I think I'll check the app store out in the first instance. Any others I should look at?
  5. Can anybody please point me in the direction of an inexpensive device that will play a few different (pre-programmed) drum patterns to play along to? I don't really want all the effects modelling stuff that comes with Korgs and I already have a Tascam bass trainer but that just does metronome type clicks and accents. Cheers

Roll up, roll up boys and girls. Grab a bargain.
  7. Yeah, there should be legislation preventing the manufacture of blue basses (imho obviously ).
  8.
OMG, what an absolutely disgraceful abomination! TBH, I do only own 4 - 'What's Going On', 'Tapestry' 'Can't Buy A Thrill' and 'C'est Chic'. The rest just is the same old, same old. Almost a list for those who obviously don't like music! I think some stuff makes lists regularly because if people are told that certain records are classics enough times, it become sacrilegious not to fall along with it. It's almost a list compiled of other 'best of's' lists....every artist's 'masterpiece'. Saying that, James Blunt? Whitney? Maroon 5??? Didn't know they'd made a masterpiece! Those of us in covers bands....these voters are your average audience.......
Wow, Mr Angry from Kent; try breathing deeply and counting to 10 ; live and let live I think. Just because an artist not being on your own personal playlist does not instantly make that person or band rubbish. I was 'disappointed' by a lot of the choices but then I didn't vote and so have no right to complain really. I certainly own a few of the selected list but you should also factor in the somewhat narrow criteria for selection and the average R2 listener demographic. It's just a milder form of TV shows like "Britain's Got Issues."
  9. Hi there. Absolutely average at bass playing from Chorley. Happy to meet up for a jam and a natter. Alain

  11.
The key is this: "Earlier this year, we asked listeners to pick their favourite from our list ofRadio 2's Top 100 Most Played Albums." With the last bit emphasised. So the vote is made up from the albums Radio 2 plays most. Hence why many peoples faves aren`t on there. It isn`t a "Your fave album of all time" it`s a "Pick your fave from the listed options".
This. Closely followed by 'so what?'

  18.
I would completely agree - if the instruments were passive. As soon as you load an instrument with an active eq, the characteristics of the woods are somewhat less important. There's a lot of BS surrounding basses, woods and how they will sound. The only way you'll hear what a bass sounds like, is when it's strung up and played for the first time. Wood is not a uniform product - I would wager that there are more Status basses that sound identical than anything else out there.
Yes, but the minute you plug a passive bass into an amp you are listening to sound through active EQ (for 99% of amps) so what's the difference? I think the main issue is that the science behind wood/bridges/strings/pickup combinations etc is not fully understood or maybe even precisely measurable so it comes down to personal preferences and your own ears - in other words there is no absolute reference point.
  19. Is one allowed one fretless and one fretted bass in the new world order?
  20. Heart says ACG, head says Sadowsky but only because of the flexibility the additional string may offer you.
  21. If only it was the other side of the fretboard. I've a B string that is not going to be used...

  23.
I don't think I can afford to go custom, although his basses are stunning. How does the wooden bridge work out? How does one adjust the action and intonation?
My fretless Letts bass has a 'traditional' Hipshot A style bridge. The other big advantage, aside from the feather-like weight, is that the neck is angled back from the plane of the body and that takes a bit of stress out of the wrist. Cost me £400 (preloved). It's worth at least a conversation with Jon I would think. Shame you're not closer as I'd happily bring mine over. The most stunning and ergonomic bass without peers imho is this one: http://www.acguitars...uk/Gallery/286/ I've had a play and the somewhat unusual body shapes allow it to be played on the lap, like a classical guitar and round the neck. In each position it is perfectly balanced too, a truly amazing instrument. Ignore all the custom bass sceptics, if you specify what you want you will have a bass for life - just think what your 30 basses cost you in terms of the difference between purchase and sale prices. Unless you are unique gifted (and should therefore be trading derivatives) you will probably be out of pocket.
  24. I don't know how you are fixed financially, but Jon Letts basses are wonderfully light and I'm sure he could work something out for you.
  25.
Have to disagree with you there! ...But then if we all liked the same thing we'd be knee-deep in gay pixies...
I want to be at that gig
