1. I've used both for work on basses. Phil excellent but pricier. Jack also excellent and about 20% or so cheaper imho.
2. What about this as an alternative? 3. Purveyor of quality pre loved scratch plates for Jazz basses in black. Thanks very much Gareth, appreciate your excellent service.
4. For sale is my 1996 Yamaha BBN5 in natural finish (acquired from a BCer). I have decided that after 2 separate attempts I am happiest on a 4-string bass, hence the sale. The body has a few minor dings and some wear just above the bridge pickup presumably caused by a previous owners thumb nail. Overall the body is in pretty good condition for its age. I'd give it 6.5 to 7.0 out of 10. The neck and fretboard are in excellent shape and nice and straight. The bass had EMG active pickups installed when I acquired it and has been lightly modded by the addition of an EMG BTC system 2-band EQ and a professionally installed 9v battery compartment. I have also added some black aluminium control knobs as the EMG supplied knobs were pants. I will include the three 25k pots (active pickups don't forget) and speed dial knobs for those wanting to go back to the traditional jazz bass style V / V / T controls. Also included is a padded gig bag. Price wise, £150 or sensible offers please. Thanks for looking. I would also consider trades for a fretless or an interesting 4-string fretted bass with cash either way.
5. Pics on OP not working (for me at any rate). Any chance of a few more please?
6.
I love the look of old beaten up instruments, and I'd really like the idea of getting some kind of slightly knackered Fendery jazz bass...
I'm sure I saw a Fender Jazz on evil bay that looked, how can I put it, used! Dodgy paint job though. Here you go - fretless though... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FENDER-JAZZ-FRETLESS-/120999163182?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1c2c1cb52e
7. Aaaahhhhh! I feel your pain, this bass looks strangely familiar. Bump for a cracker!
8. Purchased some straplocks from me. Excellent to deal with, and very patient with me when I accidentally sent him the wrong set! Hopefully all resolved in the next few days Harry!
9. To resurrect a pretty old thread, I've just acquired a mid 70s Antoria Jazz from evilbay and I too am really amazed at the tone that emerges when you plug it in! It's a weighty beast and the body looks to be mahogany or some similar wood (too red to be alder or the like) but has been re-finished black in the past. It's going to be restored to whatever wood was there in the first place. I've got the original bridge and pickups, however both have been upgraded at some point for a Wilkinson bridge and Fender Japan p/ups. The neck is sweet and the binding perfect. Here's a pic as it emerged from the packaging.
10. I have a set of Schaller straplocks now surplus to requirements. Please note that the buttons came from a bass of mine and are chrome because that matched the other hardware. The strap fittings are black (to match all those black traps out there). So you get the best of both worlds, matching bass hardware and stealthy looking strap when the bass is attached. £10 posted UK. Please let me know if you would like to see a picture. Thanks for looking. SOLD, thanks very much all.
11. I've tried a few searches on here regarding this, but so far I've either not found the magic search term or, less likely, there are no threads on the topic so...Has anybody on here tried the two variations back to back, and if so do you notice a real difference?
12. Just sold a Vintage V1004 Fretless to Chris. Very easy guy to deal with, plenty of PMs and phonecalls etc. Highly recommended to all BCers.
13. Thanks fellas, it is indeed a rosewood board. Bass now sold
14.
P.S. what a great review.
Yeah, it was OK in parts
