1. My sympathies to the OP. My digits have also had to deal with 30 years of rugby and several dislocations that I am now definitely noticing. As above, long warm up now required...
2.
There's a band round our way called One foot in The Groove, apart from the singer they are all in their 60's!
love it, wish I'd thought of that. I'm definitely the 'father figure' in our band; greying but loving it.
3. 1960 = absence of wonga in bank account
4. I've been into PMT in Salford (or is it Manchester) and have been completely ignored several times - won't be going there again. I've only ever bought a new bass on line once and that was from the Bass Merchant who were marvellous. Other than that mostly on here or occasional evilbay purchases.
5.
Thanks matey, I'm so impressed with the preamp, it's enormously powerful! and yes it is taking a little while to get my head round but I'm already able to dial in appropriate sounds relatively quickly inbetween songs...time will only improve my ease with this monster!
Aaaaahhhhh! My fretless ACG build seems to be progressing well (same pre) and seeing this just increases the anticipation. I'll have to go and lie down in the dark with a damp flannel on my head now.
6. Sorry, can somebody just remind me what this thread is about please?
7. +1 for TIs... ...but also for Fender 9050CLs and Picato flats. Both of these around £20 new. I never could get on with D'Addarios although they do seem to improve a bit with age/use.
8.
I've contacted them twice over the last few months with queries about pickups which aren't on the website, and both times I've (eventually) had one-line answers of "We don't/can't do that. Sorry."
Same here regarding a rewind on some old J p/ups. Basically advised to buy a new set.
9. Wise words from Dr Dave there against a sea of general blackness. Thanks, keep 'em coming...

Help BC

Donation made, lanyard purchased. Thanks for your efforts and keep up the sterling work guys and gals.
11. The bass in question has a butterscotch blonde body. What pickguard colour would you have as a replacement? I've allowed for multiple choices (so I can vote for several combinations obviously ) Thanks for your help Mr Indecisive p.s. The Management reserve the right to completely ignore all advice and purchase something really silly.
12.
I saw the musical box a couple of times and they were fantastic, they even have a balding left handed drummer who sings!! I read that Peter Gabriel even took his daughter to see them to show her what Dad used to do. Check em out if you can.
Yeah, saw them do the whole of The Lamb this year. Very good it was too.
13. Max just purchased some straplocks from me. Quick payment, very easy and professional to deal with. Thanks very much.
14. Oh yes, Firth of Fifth, when Steve's solo starts still sends shivers up my spine when I hear it - those white lights on the album cover didn't half singe my hair when they were turned though. Going to see Steve on his Genesis Revisited II tour next year.
15.
Does it matter? The scope of music these days is wide and diverse and pop/chart music is fast becoming an insignificant blip. Besides there's no law that says every piece of music needs to have a bass instrument of some description on it. There has been plenty of music throughout the ages (and not just limited to pop and rock) that was composed without bass and works perfectly well that way. Personally I think it's very presumptuous of the OP to consider writing bass parts for recorded songs that don't have them and were obviously written and arranged in such a way that the composer/writers felt that bass parts were unnecessary. In the (almost) 40 years that I have been writing music, I've written and recorded a lot of songs with no bass guitar on them and some of those don't have any bass instrument at all, because IMO they were complete without it. OTOH I've also written songs where the bass was the dominant instrument and the others were reduced to little more than sonic embellishments. It's all about knowing what is right of the song and the style of the music. If as a bass guitarist you feel that your role on music is under threat than maybe you should consider learning another instrument or how to program synths and sequencers. However IMO you are over-reacting. Musicians have worried about being replaced by technology since the 70s and guess what? All but the most incompetent are still here and playing.
+1 Also who says what is good music and what is not, surely it's all subjective. I brought my kids up along the lines of there is music you like, music you really don't like and all point in between; your opinion is exactly that and carries no more validity than anybody elses.
16. Sorry missed your post. It took a week or two but all landed safely.
17. "Just the Schallers left" type bump.
18. Just acquired a rather nice Fenix bass. Great transaction, simple and quick. As has already been stated above many times, Stuart is highly recommended to all BCers and a top bloke. Thanks very much.

ACG build

Latest update pics from Alan
21. Anybody catch Polica on Jools this week just gone - rather liked that and have CD on order. Also, how many 70s style natural basses with black pickguards!
22. My ACG will have TIs on when it lands. Also trying out some Fender CL9050s on an old Jazz, they seem very nice too but only had them for a week so too early to report properly - slightly heavier gauge than the TIs at 45/60/80/105.
23.
Not an easy album to track down these days ...
A few on Amazon for not too much dosh - In fact one less now as after reading this thread again I've invested in "Sneaking Sally...", "In the Right Place" and a Meters complilation CD as all my vinyl was stolen a few years back so replacing as I remember (or am prompted)
