1. I really enjoyed playing mine and had it for around 5 years. Good for rockier style music I felt with nice bright round-wounds. Sort of regret selling it now. Very comfortable, well balanced although I have no experience of the Twin Humbuckers/Tone Pump version as mine had the 3-band EQ and P/J pickups. Incidentally replaced by a Warwick Corvette Std. German made bass.
2. ..and Jack has just done a great set up on my Overwater by Tanglewood Contemp. J4 too.
3. Another endorsement for The Watch - saw them in Manc last year doing Foxtrot and other similarly vintage tunes - encore was Supper's Ready
4. I beleive thay have some of the original costumes (or access to them) could be good! Enjoy the show.
5. I've just fitted a John East P-Retro. Still fine tuning the settings but very impressed so far - I use it in full passive mode quite a lot too.
6. Title says it all really, priced at £40 delivered mainland UK. It's for sale as, since I bought it from a BCer, it's just not being used. As I've an eye on something else that I'm saving up for, it is up for sale. Pic below; if you'd like more pics please ask. Also if you have any questions I'd be happy to repond. Thanks for looking.
7. Looks a little optimistic to me. I sold my 2006 Legend 4 (the previous model with EMG P/Js and 3-band EQ) on here for £200 delivered. Do you have any idea how old the bass is?
8. I rewired an RBX270 bass from VBT to VVT - not due to output dipping problems but solely personal preference. As I understand it, part of the problem is to do with the wavelength of the resonating string and physical pickup placement having the effect of actually cancelling each other out. Alex at Barefaced wrote an article on it and describes it more eloquently here: http://barefacedbass.com/uploads/BGM61%20Dec2010.pdf
9. Hopefully looks like it's on the way to being resolved. I put a post up as the parts looked a bit like Warwick bridges and wondered if that might be an alternative if a blank was drawn. I presume some early teething trouble in production that somehow made it through QC. I think my bass was in the first batch (Feb 2011)? This minor problem has in no way diminished my enthusiasm for these most excellent basses though
10. Hi people, can anybody help me with this little problem please? My Contemp Jazz 4 has gone for an annual set up to a luthier and when he took the E string off the black saddle just kind off fell out of the chromed base part (please see the pics if that doesn't make sense). It looks like the grub screws have been over-tightened at some point during manufacture as you can see a crack in the casting and I definitely haven't touched it at all since it came with a decent set up. The luthier has been in contact with OW who have passed him onto Tanglewood but I don't think he's getting much joy. Anybody have any ideas about sourcing a replacement part please? Thanks! 11. Yeah, sad day. I had early Montrose vinyl too - 'til it all got nicked one day
12. I've played to clicks in recording studios but not live. In my experience most bands tend to speed up ever so slightly during a song so when you have a click to me it sounds a bit mechanical and conversely appears to be slowing down. I definitely prefer real musicians!
13.
No shame in that. A lot of people on here are the bass-playing equivalent of chronic masturbators!
..and again!
In my experience the peak of the bang:buck bell curve tends to happen around the £6-700 mark - it will get you a bass from a good factory with no structural or electrical issues. And you should be able to play that for the rest of your life.
I can see that. I personally have not the cash to spend on a hand built beauty unless I was able to sell all my flock at top dollar and compromise a bit on specification, but then I'd never be able to take it anywhere to annoy ather people with my limited talent. I do feel quite "settled" with my gear now, and am lucky enough to have a wife who will accept that 4 basses is an acceptable amount of kit. Broadly speaking I'm a happy bunny
14.
I love think theres anything cooler than a jetglow ricky 4003
That works for me!
15. Picato flats on everything (reasonable price, decent quality) and the set of Overwater light guage nickel rounds that came with the CJ4. I have a replacement set ready so I must quite like them too! Correction, the fretless RBX has D'Addario flats on.
16. Looks like I'm the only person who didn't really "get" the Stone Roses. Oh well...
17. Tried a 5 but didn't really get on with it so went back to 4.

Angled pickups
If you think about it, the split P pickup is an angled pickup.
Good point and iirc on the P/J equipped Spectors they are the opposite way around to P basses.
19. My MIM P weighs in at 9lbs on the nose.
20. I notice that there are a few basses knocking about with pickups that are not at right angles to the strings (I'm observant you know). Also combinations of "normal" and angled. Is this an aethetic thing or is there a noticable difference to the sound of the bass. Do the manufacturers increase the pole pice spacings to accommodate this; I imagine they must do so as not to loose output on the E and G strings? Yes, yes, my Dad did tell me about strange beings among us who have more than four strings on their basses so please imagine that I have plundered the alphabet extensively! I'm interested to know more about this subject.
