I am more than happy to leave it to your individual judgement as to which category your bass is in. For my part if has J pups I'd probably vote for a Jazz bass of some description as to me the feel/profile of the neck is a personal thing. There are some interesting Frankenbasses around though! I struggle a bit with P/J configurations as imo they are neither one nor the other!
Any risk with the back is a serious one. I'm built like proverbial sh*tehouse, played rugby for years and hit the gym regularly... And slipped a disc doing something totally f***ing innocuous, after not heeding the warning signs.
My story is very similar: Rugby, gym, (and rowing) slipped disc in neck. I acquired an Overwater padded strap a few years ago that is the widest and most comfortable I've yet found. The amp and cabs are now very easy for me to lump around and aside from the OW all my basses are relatively light. I couldn't tell you exactly what my Precision weighs but I'm sure its around 8lbs. So don't force yourself to carry things that will damage your skeleton in the medium to long term. It really isn't worth it.

Nice looking basses. A bit too "Streamery" - it's a techincal term - possible?

So there was the rock 'n' roll and the drugs sorted. What about the sex?

293 basses, plus those of you who own multiple basses that I couldn't work out how to count (sorry). I feel some analysis coming on along with the poll I did on flats and rounds for Precisions.
[sub]That is a strange price IMO.[/sub]
Yup, either the best deal ever, or it's a bit too"ex demo".

Mine was at The Sanctuary Rock Bar in Burnley about 5 years ago (see pic left). We did about 40 mins to about 30 people as the first of three bands, it went by in a flash. The two incidents I remember were the guiatrist started the first song before I had plugged in (thankfully there were 4 bars rest for me), and then later on I completely blanked on an intro to one of our songs for what felt like ten minutes but was in reality probably only a few seconds. Happy days

OK, sorry about the delay but as an aforementioned techno muppet it took me a bit of time to sort out soundcloud. Hopefully the link below will take you to the 5 songs on our latest EP. Please let me know if it doesn't work and also any feedback you might like to leave! Sounds good, and I'd like to be included if I'm in time as was looking at this tread as I've never tried Rotos from new (only some very old ones on my fretless) and was contemplating a purchase.

My Ric 4003, only because it took me 4 years to save for it. I sold it because it was uncomfortable for fingerstyle given that I didn't want to take the pup cover off for purely aethetic reasons. But, to be fair, the cash did allow me to acquire my Warick and Tanglewater basses that I'm really enjoying playing.

Oh rats, this must mean I'm a sperm whale or is it a humpback whale?

Please let us know what you end up with so we can all sleep more easily in our beds
The Yamaha RBX270F is a great bass and can be found dirt cheap used.
+1. I bought a real cheapie then did it up once I was happy that I'd keep going on F/L.

We've just recorded 5 original songs at Lisa Stansfield's studio Gracieland. I'm going try to sort out how to post them (techno muppet so help/advice most welcome) so you guys can all point and laugh btw the studio is phenomenal and I'd highly recommend it for anybody within striking range of Rochdale.
I'm a pretty average player. Got a good sense of rhythm, understand some theory and can learn average difficulty bass lines from tabs. Improvisation isn't really my thing. I don't have the time or application these days to go back to the basics and build from there - I just want to continue play live within the scope of may abilities. I love looking at basses in shops but have a bit of a challenge when I want to try one out - I know I am the man paying the money, but feel a bit inadequate that I cannot just pick up an instrument and play something that sounds sufficiently impressive to make the seller think I am a player ... I worry that I don't come across as a serious buyer and am dismissed as a time waster. Same applies when or trying out before buying off a fellow 'Chatter - I bought a Ric a couple of years ago and knew the seller was a top notch player (I had seen his clips on You Tube) ... after playing a few pentatonic runs I handed the bass to him to show me what it could do. Anybody got any suggestions how I can address my concerns? Who knows - if I get more confident I may be a buyer for your bass one day!
I would class myself as "absolutely average" and suffer all of the same angst. I am experimenting with a Shame Bypass switch at the moment.

Thanks people; 249 basses accounted far so far and no real run aways yet. Although the MIA Ps and Js and clone Ps and Js seem to be doing the business! Keep them coming...

Just had my MIM P bass set up and neck shimmed by Jack in Salford. Excellent service, completed ahead of schedule and a thoroughly nice guy to deal with. http://www.jacksinstrumentservices.com/

There have been a number of recent threads on the merits or otherwise of Jazz and Precision basses so I started wondering how the various basses are represented in BC. The question is "which P and/or J basses do you currently own" Some guidelines for voters: 1. I don't know how to do multiple choices if members have, say, three Fender Js. So please pick your favoured model. However if you have a Fender, a Squier and a clone you can vote for all three. 2. Apologies to Squier afficionados, I not familiar with the marque and I don't know if there are equivalents to MIAs and MIMs etc so you only have one box for each type. 3. By clone I mean basses very obviously replicating the classic J and P. So for example, to pick one of my basses, the Overwater Contemporary Jazz doesn't count as a Jazz bass. 4. Not bothered about the number of strings or whether your bass hass frets. 5. Non-J/P option is catered for. 6. Please don't vore for your GAS basses or basses you have moved on. Enjoy!
