1. Whichever bass matches my outfit...................just kidding, normally it's the Overwater. Well black does go with everything
2. Hi people. I'm based in the NW (Chorley, Lancashire) and may well be going on the Sunday (subject to me needing to be in London Mon to Wed following the show). If this happens then I'll be please to offer lifts down - clearly you would have to get back on your own! Dont' mind excursions en route. Let's say c.15mins from the motorway (M6 and M40 or M1 depending upon need).
3. Yes I'm not sure I quite got the shelf reference unless it's a very obscure filter gag? When I started following and reading this thread I was firmly of the mind that the MT sounded like the next "must have" bass related gadget. However I'm increasingly more reluctant to click "Buy Now"; more so as 4 strings are quite enough for me personally. I can't quite put my finger on why this is although some of the manufacturers posts cause me to raise an eyebrow, in these uncertain economic times I wasn't really programmed for such a relaxed take it or leave it response. Anybody else harbouring similar doubts or am I just going to have to wait for the next batch to be produced? How about raising a posse of 4 string players to see what a "bulkier" order might do to the unit cost of a custom shop filter for us less talented/more easily confused musicians?
4. Do we know what bass was being used in the video clip as that might resolve some of the questions about the effect on a 4-string bass.
5. Thanks goingdownslow, I didn't think to look there!
6. Sadly not KevB, but thanks for the offer. I generally find stuff on the net and just print it out...
7.
OOooo I've just remembered an old pet hate .. *chasing cars* ... Wow what a dull song for a bass player
Yup, probably the low point for a gig where covers are required - gets a good respnse though. Also not a fan of the Libertines.
8. Just bought P-retro from Simon. Very easy to deal with, plenty of e-mails etc, totally reliable, goods arrived as promised. Highly recommended as others have observed.
9. Not studied that bit yet, but thanks for the heads up. I've just tried to find the June 2011 edition online but failed. Am I missing a trick and is there a handy link?
10. Thanks very much, that looks like the beasty. I'm now wondering why I didn't find that link
11. Is anybody able to provide me with/point me to the notation for the above please? Cheers!
12. How is the search going? I notice the BB200 is re-listed at £125 now...
13. Well thanks to simon1964 (a scholar and a gentleman) I have a P-retro on its way that has not caused any undue alarm with Mrs ead. I can confirm that all limbs and bodily particles still attached. Result
14.
PM if you're interested!
PMed
15. Whilst I'm on a roll... I would dearly love to acquire a P-retro from John East but apparently they're beyond the top end of my budget (according to the delectable Mrs ead - can't see the problem personally, but there you go). I did some interweb research and found the EMG BTC unit so I was wondering has anybody used one of these, and if so what do you think of it? Cheers A
16. Just contemplating upgrading some pups. I have a set of SPB-1s on a fretless and the SPB-3s may be a bit extreme for my liking so I was wondering about what appears to be the "middle" option... fyi GAK have these up at £54 (same for the Quarter Pounders) although delivery date not certain - didn't enquire at this point.
17. Still in progtastic use! Saw Yes in Manchester last year and Mr Squire has his bass strapped on plus a fretless held vertically in a walk up stand for (limited) use in one of the songs. I reakon Steve Howe will have two for the next tour...
18. If you want more/better pics happy to oblidge too.
19. Yeah, changed quite a lot really! New bridge, SD vintage p/ups, rewired to Volume/Volume/Tone and put a decent jack socket in too. In my defence the roginal bass cost me about £70 iirc from evilbay...Was thinking about a refinish too but figured I'd never got what I spent back so haven't gone there (yet!). Sounds awesome now so really pleased with the outcome. It's my "go to" noodling bass nowadays. Oh and knurled metal knobs to replace the plastic jobbies If you're nearby you're welcome to come over for a noodle.
20. Not on this bridge as it has 4 screws, cost about £20 or so iirc. The alternative was going for a Gotoh 210 which would be a straight replacement I think - although tbh I'm not entirely sure whether the Yamaha standard fit bridges are mechanically identical to the Fender bridges they resemble.
21. I've upgraded an RBX70 fretless and used a Wilkinson high mass bridge...
22.
On my watch list too
We should go for a 50/50 ownership thing. Your need appears to be the greater so I will refrain from bidding (I promise)!
That's the one I mentioned in my first post - ugh!
Oh yes, sorry. Not to my taste either.
23. Here's one of those BB200s mentioned above. Looks quite tidy this one... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140686551198&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en ...so much so it's on my Watch list now...BAD BOY, BAD BOY NO MORE BASSES
