1. My Ric 4003, only because it took me 4 years to save for it. I sold it because it was uncomfortable for fingerstyle given that I didn't want to take the pup cover off for purely aethetic reasons. But, to be fair, the cash did allow me to acquire my Warick and Tanglewater basses that I'm really enjoying playing.
2. Oh rats, this must mean I'm a sperm whale or is it a humpback whale?
3. Please let us know what you end up with so we can all sleep more easily in our beds
4.
Fixed.
Cheers
5. The ones in BGM 75 are caller Cooperstand Pro G and Ecco www.cooperstand.com
6.
The Yamaha RBX270F is a great bass and can be found dirt cheap used.
+1. I bought a real cheapie then did it up once I was happy that I'd keep going on F/L.
7. We've just recorded 5 original songs at Lisa Stansfield's studio Gracieland. I'm going try to sort out how to post them (techno muppet so help/advice most welcome) so you guys can all point and laugh btw the studio is phenomenal and I'd highly recommend it for anybody within striking range of Rochdale.
8. I have the trans black one, great bass. Mine is not going anywhere!
9. There were some nice ones (= a litlle pricey) in BGM last month. I'll try to remember to look when I get home tonight for you.
10.
I'm a pretty average player. Got a good sense of rhythm, understand some theory and can learn average difficulty bass lines from tabs. Improvisation isn't really my thing. I don't have the time or application these days to go back to the basics and build from there - I just want to continue play live within the scope of may abilities. I love looking at basses in shops but have a bit of a challenge when I want to try one out - I know I am the man paying the money, but feel a bit inadequate that I cannot just pick up an instrument and play something that sounds sufficiently impressive to make the seller think I am a player ... I worry that I don't come across as a serious buyer and am dismissed as a time waster. Same applies when or trying out before buying off a fellow 'Chatter - I bought a Ric a couple of years ago and knew the seller was a top notch player (I had seen his clips on You Tube) ... after playing a few pentatonic runs I handed the bass to him to show me what it could do. Anybody got any suggestions how I can address my concerns? Who knows - if I get more confident I may be a buyer for your bass one day!
I would class myself as "absolutely average" and suffer all of the same angst. I am experimenting with a Shame Bypass switch at the moment.
11. Strike him roughly and throw him to the ground centurion.
12. Thanks people; 249 basses accounted far so far and no real run aways yet. Although the MIA Ps and Js and clone Ps and Js seem to be doing the business! Keep them coming...
13. Just had my MIM P bass set up and neck shimmed by Jack in Salford. Excellent service, completed ahead of schedule and a thoroughly nice guy to deal with. http://www.jacksinstrumentservices.com/
14. There have been a number of recent threads on the merits or otherwise of Jazz and Precision basses so I started wondering how the various basses are represented in BC. The question is "which P and/or J basses do you currently own" Some guidelines for voters: 1. I don't know how to do multiple choices if members have, say, three Fender Js. So please pick your favoured model. However if you have a Fender, a Squier and a clone you can vote for all three. 2. Apologies to Squier afficionados, I not familiar with the marque and I don't know if there are equivalents to MIAs and MIMs etc so you only have one box for each type. 3. By clone I mean basses very obviously replicating the classic J and P. So for example, to pick one of my basses, the Overwater Contemporary Jazz doesn't count as a Jazz bass. 4. Not bothered about the number of strings or whether your bass hass frets. 5. Non-J/P option is catered for. 6. Please don't vore for your GAS basses or basses you have moved on. Enjoy!
15. Close to the Edge was the first LP I ever bought. The whole thing is a magical moment for me
16. I don't know if you've spotted this: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/167982-headphones/ I beleive the V6s are well regarded but have no personal experience.
17. I have Moon Safari CDs so a +1 for the suggestion WalMan
18. Sorry, I'm strictly a Jetglo kinda guy. However in that style of finish I could tollerate it along with the Maple.
19.
....and don't even get me started on Los Endos, also from Seconds Out.
For me SO is one of the best live albums I know of. The CD version even has the tracks in the order I remember them (although it was a little while ago), I love listening to it through my headphones, volume turned up a tad, in a dimly lit room - just like being there again.
20. Brother Dave's website http://brotherdave.com/resources.htm has plenty of Fender info etc., might be worth a look.
21. I'm a big fan of my Tascam MP-BT1 Bass Trainer thingy acquired from a BCer not too long ago.
22. For me there's a moment in Firth of Fifth (by Genesis for the uninitiated ) where the song moves into a sweeping keyboard (I know, I know) passage that for me really creates the whole atmosphere of the song.
23. I've a pair of Audio Technica over ear cans that are really sweet but they are open so no good to you. Try the hifi-headphones website that has good recommendations and gives you an idea of the cost too. Then (obviously) hunt for the best deal http://www.hifiheadphones.co.uk/
24. How could you do such a thing when I've just posted on another thread about being good and not submitting to GAS attacks I'm going to have to lock myself in the cellar again now
25. I couldn't handle the suspense so I invested my squids in a PW unit. Very happy, it picks up the E string fine - don't know what a low B string is, some form of underwear possibly?
