  1. Squier Silver Series basses have a 40mm nut. Js and Ps share the same neck so either flavour is catered for.
  2. Lovely basses, I had one as my first proper fretless bass a while back. GLWTS.
  3. Great story. Just done the same thing myself with a s/s bass I used to own and foolishly sold.

    2022

Total for 2022 = minus 5 I throw myself at the mercy of the BC community.
  5. I'm not aware of having tried ground wound strings but have tried pressure wound. They were not for me so went back to my fav TI flats.
  6. The 'back-up' pickup would deffo be a benefit. I have decided to leave mine as is in the end. I've had a lot of comments at gigs not only about the aesthetics and 'back story' of the bass, but more importantly about how it sounds which is a good thing
  7. The most expensive new bass I've bought was a custom ACG at a bit over £2.5k, amazing bass and I will confess to being a serial ACG user. As a counter balance I really enjoy the sub £500 pre-loved bracket and I currently have a couple of instruments in that price bracket that are both excellent.
  8. Does this mean I've now got to add an extra battery and mess with my lovely wiring? I think I probably already know the answer. Although I think Mr Sklar was running them with a 9V for each p/up so technically 9V in parallel and therefore not an 18V circuit.
  9. Long scale indeed. They came from a Fender 50's P bass, so 34" scale 4 in-line headstock.
  10. Just acquired some pickups from Dave, a really straightforward transaction. Great comms with some helpful info. Deal in confidence people of BC world.
  11. Bass looks great BTW, congratulations. Are you liking the results?
  12. My bass runs at 9V and sounds just dandy (to my cloth ears at any rate).
  13. Just reacquired my old ACG previously in the caring hands of @Gardenerben from Bill. What a gent and a real pleasure to meet and deal with. Bill was extremely helpful in terms of meeting up (still a long drive for him) and also for being kind enough to sell me my old bass back. Deal with confidence folks 👍
  14. The top banana that is Gary (a credit to his family, the wider community and indeed the UK as a whole) splashed out a considerable some of his hard-earned on some Schaller strap lock items. I am relieved to say that he found them to be of merchantable quality and was patient with me during the whole postal strike debacle causing the delivery time from me posting them to the envelope landing on his mat to be in excess of a typical Covid isolation period. The man is a saint (even though he won't give me one of his Spectors of which he has far too many for one peep).
  15. Nice. I think the plate was an old Stingray item but not 100% on that tbh. Certainly has the look of one. Pickup-wise my neck one is a good couple of mm lower than the bridge item and that does balance out the sound nicely.
  16. I'm sure there's a picture of this somewhere. Wouldn't you want the pickup under the part of the string that has the most lateral movement to get the best output? To take an extreme example, if the p/up was under the 12th fret and you played a harmonic note over that 12th fret then the string at that point would be all but stationary and the pickup wouldn't hear much of it at all.
  17. Here you go, and using the Mk1 eyeball technique so may be a mm or two out: 12th fret to the centre of the EA part of the pick up - neck - 247mm 12th fret to the centre of the EA part of the pick up - bridge - 373mm
  18. No probs, will get back to you later today on this.
  19. Do you want me to check the measurements btw?
  20. The neck pickup soloed is definitely richer in tone than a normal P bass so your analysis looks spot on to me. Nice to see it represented graphically too. I might well 'steal' that pic
  21. Just PMed you.
  22. That looks like my old one. I traded for a Sandberg TT4 TSBS as I like the battered look. It has the Black Label p/ups that are rather nice too.
  23. This. I have the slightly earlier bass version and a (GB-10 as a spare). Really easy and you can do cool stuff like slow playback down without affecting pitch. They don't come up that often preloved which probably tells you what you need to know. If you're anywhere near Preston happy to lend you the spare one to try out.
