  1. Lovely looking bass. GLWTS
  2. This has just landed from Sandberg with Mark at Classic & Cool and will be with me next week...
  3. Thanks fellas. No recording studio stuff yet but I'll try and get some recordings from band practice with the bass so you can hear it in action.
  4. If I could find some I'd definitely swap them out, assuming of course I could afford them!
  5. That would be awesome if that could happen.
  6. I used to have a 4-string Darkhawk (it's the one for sale at BassBros at the moment. https://bassbros.co.uk/product/sandberg-california-ii-vm2-dark-hawk-4/ These are my thoughts and hopefully address your question! The bass is a really nice thing to play, I think Sandbergs have some of the best necks out there. The Darkglass EQ is unusual in that it has bass/lo mids/high mids and no treble control this gives it a more 'powerful' feel for want of a better word. The pickups are the Sandberg Black Label items that have a higher output than the standard items, think Quarter Pounders, so plenty of mids there to be tweaked and this seems to align well with the Darkglass preamp. This is a very powerful instrument with a lot of character. Flexibility wise the blend control is useful and the switch essentially transforms it into a Jazz bass. I think it's the two outer coils but not 100% certain. Plus the EQ can do really good deep lows to being actually quite bright even without the treble control. The Darkhawk was dreamed up by German retailer Musik Produktiv who married the Darkglass preamp to the existing Nighthawk model. Here's what MP say about it: We present a meeting of the giants exclusively at Musik Produktiv. Yes, it was our idea to bring together two of today's most interesting bass companies. We had a modern bass concept in mind with an extraordinary sound concept. After many, many prototypes with different woods, bodies, pickups and their position, after several trips and meetings, we are more than proud to present our result. The Darkhawk is - as the name suggests - based on a Sandberg Nighthawk, but is equipped with special pickup positioning, black label pickups and the Darkglass preamp. Together with the choice of wood, a steam hammer of tone was created that leaves no further questions unanswered. The prototypes have already been taken as a new reference tone both at Darkglass headquarters in Helsinki and at Sandberg Guitars in Braunschweig. There couldn't be a better accolade for us! I bought the bass new from Germany and used it for quite a while (never got to do a gig with it sadly). It was bought on the back of me joining a metal band and needing something appropriate! Sadly the project collapsed after some months. At that point I realised that I had way to much gear and decided to shift a good number of basses, and whilst I have two other Sandbergs this was the one that was likely to be used least. I do still miss tbh and have the BassBros page with the listing on my favourites list just in case.
  7. Well I for one will sleep more easily tonight knowing that.
  8. Ash is down to his last thirty seven P basses now. Worrying times for us all.
  9. Curious fact: The people of Dubai don't like The Flintstones. Nobody knows why, it could be some long-held fear of Hanna-Barbera animations. Even more curiously the people of Abu Dhabi Do!
  10. Hi folks SOLD ELSEWHERE Up for sale here is my MIJ P bass in gloss black. The bass is in good condition overall with just some dings and marks on the body. The fretboard is a beautiful piece of dark Rosewood and with the dark tort p/guard looks great, a classic look. It is only for sale as I am coveting another bass that is f/s. If I miss out I will withdraw this from sale immediately! I think the pickguard is an upgrade by a previous owner. In addition the bass now sports an Alan Dingwall ‘Bravewood’ P pickup. The pickup was new when I acquired it on this forum (from @walshy) and sounds great. Really nails the vintage P bass tone to my ears. The bass weighs just under 9lbs by my scales and is currently wearing some flatwounds and will come with a fairly basic but pretty new gig bag. As it's not full original (pickup and probably the pickguard) I'm going to offer it at a decent price to you good people. Price is £725 collected from me. I'll deliver within 50 miles for free, and will be happy to travel further for some petrol money. I do have some packaging and a hardcase now so I post for a contribution towards the hard case & P&P costs. Some pics below but please let me know if you want to see anything in more detail:
  11. Hrrmmm. Become powerful you have, the dark side in you I sense.
  12. Is the Imperial Stormtrooper included?
  13. Nice bass @Henrythe8 The colour and inlays look similar to those used on the Sandberg California II TSBS bass that I own.
  14. Novels can be a fertile hunting ground. Off the top of my head (but most because I've just lent it to my daughter) J G Ballard's "Drowned World"
  15. Sorely tempted TBH.
  16. Does your Pulse II have the Junior TP in still or have you swapped it out and what do you think of the bass?
  17. On the Sandberg theme, this one at BassBros used to be mine and is highly flexible with Darkglass EQ and pickup coil switch. https://bassbros.co.uk/product/sandberg-california-ii-vm2-dark-hawk-4/
  18. Yup, that's the badger. When I bought the bass it had a Quarter Pounder p/up fitted, but I managed to find the actual original pickup set on here after a lot of digging around (thanks people, you know who you are) and restored it back to it's original state. I know what you mean about P basses. I did have 5 though (now 2) which I think you'll find is even more than @ash of this very parish who, at the last count, had 756 of them.
  19. That might be my old one, a very reluctant sale but I had too many P basses. Will has helped me a great deal in slimming down the herd and has been brilliant to deal with.
  20. I agree, whilst they don't do the stereo thing and have less knobs they are very usable with a nice(r) bridge and great playabilty.
  21. Not really sure I want to do this but here goes... Rickenbacker 4004Cii Cheyenne Bass Guitar Introduced in 1994 the Cheyenne is one of Rickenbacker’s newest models; the Cii was introduced 5 years later 1999. This is a 2012 bass in Jetglo with Gold hardware. It is in excellent condition for a 10-year-old bass, with one tiny ding that I have repeatedly tried to photograph to no avail. The frets are virtually unmarked and electrics are fully functional. The bass comes with the original Rickenbacker hardcase and case candy. The weight is 9.03 lbs. Rickenbacker now use only American farm-grown sustainable woods. This exquisite bass is sculpted from solid Maple and Walnut, complemented by an Eastern Maple neck running the full length of the bass with a rich gloss clear coat. Two humbucking pickups are carefully placed for maximum tonal capability. Probably looking at meeting up half way or collection if you're nearby as I'm reluctant to post this one, plus I don't have a box at the moment. Happy to consider trades with cash my way. Probably only 4-string basses though and I might be a bit picky, but I will always be polite if a bass offered is not for me. Price is £2,250. I will consider near offers but again don't be disappointed if I decline. Full Specification Body Type: Solid No. Frets: 20 Scale Length: 84.5 cm (33 1/4'') Neck Width at Nut: 42.9 mm (1 11/16'') Neck Width at 12th Fret: 54.0 mm (2 1/8'') Crown Radius: 25.4 cm (10'') Body Wood: Hardrock Maple, Walnut core Neck Wood: Maple Fingerboard Wood: Bubinga, unfinished Bridge: Schaller 3D4 Neck Type: Through body No. of Pickups: 2 x HB-1 Humbucking Output Type: Mono Machine Heads: Schaller M4 180 Light Here are some pics. Let me know if there is any other detail you'd like to see. Thanks for looking.
