  1. I enjoyed Quo's count in to Rocking All Over The World at Live Aid: 4 and off they went.
  2. Great basses these, looks to be excellent value at this price, a limited edition too. PJ at Spector told me that they made only 50 of the '77s and a few more of the '79s.
  3. I hope you mean that in a good way
  4. Like the new p/guard. Definitely the way to go! Where did you get it from?
  5. I've only seen the 4-string fretless basses in the sparkly black finish but never went looking for a 5er due to a general talent deficit
  6. Interesting questions. There are certainly plenty of options in that price range both new and pre-loved. My criteria were broadly sub £1k, jazz bass style, and something I could gig happily (ish) without taking along my treasured ACG fretless bass. I looked at few Fendery things but they were all boat anchors, a bitsa nice enough but ultimately not quite right and a few things like Ray 34s - but I have a mixed relationship with Stingray style basses. I took the plunge despite the lack of love on the interweb as for the price the spec looked good with quality hardware etc., and I knew it would be a good modding platform. When the bass turned up I was delighted it with every aspect with the exception of the ultra hot preamp. In went the J East Jazz Deluxe preamp I had in the drawer and that was transformational. It's a cracker now and I not touched anything else on it at all. It is a bass that is always on the stand in the practice room and that gets taken to rehearsals and will be gigged. I suspect a passive Kiogon loom would be another option as it sounds good with the preamp by-passed. The neck is outstanding, very like my Sandberg bass. Tuners, bridge and p/ups are of good quality too. The pickguard tort is a bit red and at some point there's a possibility it may become BWB but that's not near the top of the wish lit atm. @mr zed of this parish came around to try it out and we were able to AB it with his MIJ Will Lee Sadowsky; it faired very well. Mr zed has subsequently bought one himself I believe. It's a pity you are so far from here otherwise you'd be most welcome to try it out. Is there anything else you like to know.
  7. There's one just like Julia's for sale here: https://www.musik-produktiv.com/gb/sandberg-california-tt4-hardcore-aged-rw-rq.html I bought my Darkhawk from these folks and they are very good to deal with. The bass arrived in 6 days not a cent to pay above the listed price.
  8. The beastie has landed. Very pleased with it, punchier than a punchy thing that walked into a bar looking for a fight. I've put some flats on the bass as a bit of an experiment but it turns out that they work really well. Here's a couple of pics. Apols for the mediocre quality. I'll get some better ones when the light is better.
  9. Of "The Eleven" my personal fav is this one, probably because I really like the LE77 and LE79 Euros. 'Only' £4.6k too
  10. Very good things. I have one pretty much nailed to my pedal board.
  11. Also a TI fan. I did change a set on one of my fretless basses, once.
  12. I was virtually weaned on 6X, please can I be sponsored by Wadworth too?
  13. ...or maybe a 'swing your trousers' folk combo?
  14. Just need to find a doom metal band now.
  15. It does look that way.
  16. I might have accident just bought one of these VM2 Darkhawks (the b@stard child of a Nighthawk and a Grand Dark)
  17. Will used to work at Bass Direct I believe.
  18. ACG Standard J Type 4 For sale is this rather lovely (IMHO, YMMV etc.) ACG version of the classic Jazz bass, the pickups are closer to the 70s position. Don't be fooled by the modest wood choice and appearance, this is a cracking Jazz bass that I thought that I'd never sell but as I'm moving to more and more fretless playing to help with some hand/wrist issues it will have to go. The bass started life with the SEQ preamp, but after a couple of years I thought I'd go fully passive with a 4-way coil switch, so now you have the following options on top of the volume and tone knobs: Bridge p/up only; both p/ups in parallel; both p/ups in series (particularly awesome); neck p/up only. The bass weighs in at 3.6kgs (or 8lbs in old money) so very easy to use for long gigs. It’s in great condition and will come with a good quality gig bag. Very competitively priced at £895 please. Spec Strings/Scale: 4 34” Body core: White Limba with light amber/vintage stain Neck woods: 3 piece Ash with carbon rods and asymmetric profile F/B wood: Rosewood Radius: Flat Side dots: White (might be aluminium but can't remember) Bridge: Hipshot Type B black Tuning machines: Gotoh GB720 black Pickups: ACG Over-wound SB single coil Electronics: Passive plus – Vol/Tone/4-position coil switch I would be happy to deliver within a reasonable radius of home alternatively happy to meet somewhere approximately half way if you prefer for a contribution to fuel costs. A courier remains the last resort. I work from home most days so can accommodate most collection options. I would leave it to you to organise your preferred courier. There are some pics to follow below. Please let me know if you’d like to see any other details.
