    Should probably have mentioned that the Black Labels fitted to my TT accompany a passive VVT electronics set up. They sound much like my Fender J but just a bit punchier. I have them screwed down into the body about 1-2mm lower than the std Jazz seup to get the tone I like.

    The deed is done. Battery box fitted, Nordy MM4.2 and Stinger installed. Very pleased with the results.

    I have Black Label p/ups on my new TT but can't comment yet on live performance. Band practice not far away now so that will be the first test. From what I hear so far in practice I can't see there being any issues.

    Agree tension and stiffness are two different properties and probably combine in the way we feel the strings under our digits. I have found through experimentation that if I purchase/construct string sets with pretty similar string tensions, then when I'm playing I get to expend (as far as I can tell) a similar amount of effort plucking each string. That works for me so I'm sticking with it

    I think there is an amount of physics at play here too as has said above. For any scale length you can pick a gauge of string that works and it's not a linear relationship which I guess is why to me 45/65/85/105 strings give very uneven tension across the bass. I've bought 5-string sets from Newtone as you can pick pretty much exactly what you want in terms of construction and gauge. The last 5-string set I acquired had the following gauges (35" scale): 42/56/76/102/138T. This gave me excellent uniform tension, absence of mud and the tapered B made it a doddle to fit even for a relatively heavy gauge.

    Isn't there a Yamaha TRBX 5er on here for £350 or so. Rock solid I believe but I've never played one. The Maruszczyk on ebay is about 4.6kgs (I asked) so not exactly lightweight!

    Probably not the place to mention it but I have a 32" scale ACG at just over 7lbs that is great for gigging. Not quite as light as the Sandbergs but very manageable.

    Japanese made I believe. Mine had a stunning flamed neck and board so I don't think it's the same bass.

    Having had a long chat with Mark at Bass Direct this morning I'm going to go with a Nordstrand MM4.2 pickup over the other two I mentioned above.

    Just checked back on the Euro LE necks. I'd say very similar to the neck on my Sandberg Calirfornia II TT bass. Hope that helps as an alternative frame of reference.

    At the moment I have nothing to compare them with directly however I think @Paulhauser is correct as the two Euro LEs I have are both very comfortable. Not sure the nut width has changed but the Euro 4LEs definitely feel thinner front to back than what I recall of the previous Euro 4LX I used to own.

    Hey folks I'm doing a little project to convert one of the 'value' Stingray copies to sound a more like the pre Ernie Ball Rays. I'm going to go for a Stinger '77 preamp but would like to know if any of you good people have any experience with either the Delano MC4 AL/V4 or Seymoud Duncan SMB-4A Dual Coil pickups. Both claim to be a good replacement vintage style pickup. Also interested to hear about good replacement bridges. Thank you.

    Even my regular Alder Sandberg TT is only 8lbs so very easy on the bodily particles.

    Never had any problems with it myself. The occasional string does pop out every so often but adjustment wise never had any intonation issues. A bit like Spector bridges really.

    For sale is a brand new set of Sandberg steel wound strings that came off a new bass that I have just received, I believe that these are made by GHS. Essentially I forgot to request nickel strings at the time. They were put on the bass at the factory and then shipped to me. I played them for maybe 5 minutes to check everything was OK then took them straight off. Cut for a 4-in-line 34" scale bass. I think the gauges are 45-105 but I have no way to measure this. The other set Sandberg use are 40-100. £12 posted UK mainland Pics below. Packaging is not related to the contents, but it keeps the strings clean and safe.
