The huge amount of positive feedback clearly reflects that Greg is indeed a Top Banana. Greg has just bought a pickup from me and it was a totally seamless transaction from start to finish. Many thanks Greg.
I suspect you are right on that. I had a brief go on a Fodera a few years ago and was left with much the same impressions as you. It was probs lost on me anyway as I'm not the world's most talented bassist
Nothing at all, and I'm sure Foderas are also extemely nice bits of kit. It just struck me that given the relatively small numbers around, compared to say Fenders, that this was a bit unusual. As I said, just not my bag.
Not 100 clear if you're asking us to vote for the one you should keep (what I have assumed) or the opposite. Two reasons:
Can't imaging you keeping a Fender over a Yamaha
Not mad keen on binding
I had a Peavey Zephyr C4 (I think it was called). Cracking neck-through 4-string bass for sub £200.
For something a little different, on ebay atm is this Lag bass. I actually used to own this very instrument and it is a really nice 24 fret Jazz bass. I've actually been thinking hard about buying it back.

I think the bass you are referring to was called the Squier Standard Precision Bass Special. Quite well thought of and have a mini following.

Here's a lightly used set of D'Addario nickel wound strings. The gauges are 46/65/80/100/130 and they were on a 34" scale 5er with a 3 over 2 headstock.

Well, I've taken the plunge and picked up a fretless version. I think it's probably third production run (it has a Just A Nut 3 fitted) and many of the issues I've read about are absent.
First impressions are that it's well put together, no obvious issues I've found so far other than the preamp being extremely feisty. I've not seen a trim pot that I can tweak yet but haven't exhaustively poked around. In passive mode it's a nice bass though. It came with nickel round wounds that have made way for some preloved (worn in) JF344s.
