  1. If you like it then play it and gig it. If you don't sell it. Simples. My '66P gets regular outings. Let me rephrase that: My '66 used to get regular outings and will again.
  2. Very nice. Worth checking with Jack's Instrument Services too as he will make you a good replacement if the Sandberg option is not available / quite costly.

    Neck Shapes

Hear, hear @stewblack I don't mind what they feel like but I have quite large hands so that possibly makes it a bit easier. My personal favs are the asymmetric ACG necks made by @skelf that are just delightful closely followed by the Sandberg necks that are also a joy to stagger around on.
  4. We had a lot of luck on Venus We always had a ball on Mars Meeting all the groovey people We've rocked the Milky Way so far Deep Purple failing to grasp the essential distance between galaxies and planets for that matter and the absence to this day of faster than light travel. Not to mention the hostile atmosphere on Venus and the complete absence of on on Mars.
  5. Lockdown has worked well for me in this respect. I walk for an hour or so every day and always with iPod/headphone amp/headphones. I'm working my way through my record collection and am somewhere around 'C', currently on two Collage CDs (for those that like that kind of thing).
  6. I've only ever owned the 1st gen Electras so can't comment. The v1 VS4 above is light at 3.7kgs or a little over 8lbs in old money. The tuners are per the pic below so it looks like a D tuner direct replacement is more likely than for the newer 3-point items. Either probably represent excellent value when compared to equivalent F branded items. Build quality on mine is excellent, particularly the fret work and the neck is great too.
  7. I think @cetera was looking for one of these.
  8. Pickup is great. Not quite as in your face as a 'Quarter Pounder' but meaty with good lows and mids. As to the other thing, I'm a long-term Sadowsky knob fan. Can I say that?
  9. Interesting point. I learned violin at school and went pretty much right through the grades (stopped after VII when I discovered rugby and lady peeps). What I find most odd is that reading the treble clef is second nature my brain really struggles to read the bass clef. I have no idea why but it's very annoying.
  10. Access to higher frets? Burn him for he is a witch/wizzard/non-gender specific magic person.
  11. Apologies, I didn't post a pic of the Electra post modding as I was waiting for some knobs to be delivered. They were, and here it is.
  12. The Sandberg California II is smaller than a regular Fender J as well.
  13. Ditto. On the upside we are back rehearsing now.
  14. Good point well made. My fav jazz is, for want of a better description an ACG bitsa. I have also enjoyed a couple of nice Fender MIJ Geddy Lee Js if we are talkign about Leo's gear.
  15. I use this kind of thing on my vinatge Fender (currently sporting beer bottle seals - also orange would you believe ) so I'm in.
  16. There is an accellerated programme but you have to have bought before. Looks like Sandberg are starting to get traction in the USA and there are a few larger orders going through the factory that we have to fit in around.
  17. John just made me a V/T/T harness for a P bass. Works really well and as always John was super-helpful and communicative during the process. I think he should now officially be declared a National Treasure
  18. Just completed the mods on my Electra VS4. It now sports a Martin Herrick '58 P bass pickups. Martin tells me he made one of these for a big Iron Maiden fan then made a couple more while he was at it. Mine is #3 of 3. Cracking pickup it is too. Electronics are all passive now with a V/T/T set of controls per spec of the Warwick Streamer CV basses that have a bass and treble tone control, made up for me by our very own KiOgon. Not sure how much I'll use the bass pot but I had a third hole in the pickguard and thought "why not?". Plus I've yet to find a reliable talent control circuit. Taking the bass to band practice tomorrow for a good work out.
  19. For sale is the Sandberg branded but probably Delano pickup from my VS4 Electra bass. Although it looks a bit shorter in the pics. the grey wire to go into the control cavity is 15cms long so connection shouldn't be an issue. Although branded Sandberg, these will most likely be Delano as Sandberg try to source as much as possible within Germany. I think I have some screws and springs if required. £45 posted UK mainland, please ask if further afield
  20. This is the 2-band preamp that came out of my Electra VS4 bass (precision style instrument). It would be simple enough to add a blend or second volume for a two pickup bass or might be a fun addition to a Stingray type bass? The volume pot has a push/pull acive/passive switch and in passive mode the treble control (market T) is a passive tone control. I have left everything soldered in so you can see how it goes together. Not sure who made these but Sandberg try to source in Germany so possibly Glockenklang or Delano? Here is a pic. Please fire away if you have any questions. £45 posted UK mainland, anywhere else please ask.
  21. Paul is great to deal with; instant payment and great comms. He must surely be a National Treasure by now?
  22. I agree, age is not necessariy proportional to quality and with Leo's automotive background I imagine that he was designing for manufacture as much as anything. When I bought mine I went looking for a bass that had been played (a lot in the case of the bass I acquired) hoping that would be a good indication that it was at least worth playing. Turns out it is and gets gigged regularly and the Sausage & Swordfish.
