  1. I think it's more about the spec and the parts. Still MIJ but to USA specifications and, I think, with US p/ups.
  2. Interesting ref. the weights. Mine have been pretty uniform between 9.0lbs and 9.3lbs. Pretty sure all Alder but as you can see they were painted so hard to be sure.
  3. I think the grounding strip is particular to the '62 reissue basses but not 100% on that. Over the years I've had three Japanese jazzes and all have been excellent. Currently (selfishly) playing a couple of Japan Geddy Lee jazzes both excellent but at some point will need to let one go. These are probably my favourite of the various offerings, one is CIJ and one MIJ. From different manufacturers in Japan I beleive but you'd be hard pressed to spot a difference bewteen them. A couple of 62RIs ...and a 65RI One of the Geddy Lee basses
  4. Or indeed pass the port. Traditionally passed to the left (and behind lady peeps).
  5. It is my first Alpher. I had a play the prototype at a show up here a couple of years ago and was massively impressed with it. Took me a while to save up some cash.
  6. The NS2000 is a quality bass. I think these were made under the Stuart Spector Design (SSD) brand when Spector was having difficulties with Kramer over brand ownership and had to have basses made abroad. These and the NS-94 were almost like US basses in terms of fit and finish; lots of lovely little touches. There's some stuff on the Spector website about the history plus some details of where the basses made.
  7. I can't comment on whether the design has been registered or not, no whether the luthier (Alpher) would mind. Maybe you might contact them?
  8. I did commit to updates on the 'legal' purchase. Here it is on the right (next to the prototype) just needing the pickups and string tree to arrive.
  9. Very tricky. Both brands make quality instruments and will probably boil down whichever feels best in you hands. I ended up keeping the Spectors and selling the Warwicks but it wasn't a strightforward choice. Probably no help whatsoever
  10. Beautiful basses @three Quite a lot of knob action there too.
  11. We must both be afflicted by a similar talent deficit
  12. For sale is this white pearl pickguard for a Fender Japan bass. This one was on my Geddy Lee CIJ but note that it also has been drilled for a cover and a thumb rest. It was made by Jack's Instrument Services in Manchester so is of very good quality. £20 posted to UK mainland
  13. More info on this bass please. Looks really nice.
  14. Hi folks I recently bought myself some pickguards for my Geddy Lee jazz direct from WD Music in the USA. To make the postage from the US, customs fees etc. more viable I doubled up on the order. I have the following for your delectation and, hopefully, purchase. All are in their original packaging, unopened, and with the protective film on: 1 x Black / White / Black £25 Now sold 1 x White / Black / White £20 Now sold elsewhere 1 x Aged Pearlescent White £44 Now Sold Not looking to profit from this so these are the prices I paid without the additional fees etc. Postage to the UK mainland is included.
  15. I do believe that @aj5string is looking for a good value bass for teaching purposes.
  16. I've owned a couple of SRs but never really gelled with them. Older SR1500 Also an SR4000E
  17. ACG Retro B ACG J Type fretless Anaconda Crusher (cruurent up for sale)
  18. Kitchen foil works well enough. It's aluminium so very conductive. Maybe scrape a bit of the colour off the bottom of the bridge. Whatever the plating is to give the gold finish it will probably have a varnish coating over it.
  19. Interesting. I do agree that the chrome one look a bit 'sudden' on the '77LE and thinking about replacing the ones on my bass with black items. Gold look great though... ...but I'd need a set for my 79LE too so looking more expensive by the minute
  20. I actually have a spare ACG PB pickup (made by Armstrong). Dimensions are 100 x 50 mm so maybe you need to source one of the 40mm housing sizes. None of the ACG pickup range are in what might be termed std sizes so may not be the optimal solution.
  21. I got a reply back in 2 hours, super helpful.
  22. Here are a couple more with a reasonable degree of certainty: 29350 - Ordered late summer 2016; delivered May 2017 25665 - Acquired new from C&C in March 2016 - 2015 build xxxxx - Ordered July 2020; delivery anticipated very early 2021....
  23. Just heard back from Sandberg ref my Electra VS4. s/n 22365 born on 31 May 2014. I probably have another point of reference or two, will check back later.
  24. I don't believe that I've seen such a table but would interested to see it.
