  1. My fretless bass. I'd have no excuse not to try and improve my technique and listening skills.
  2. If you like D'Addarios then I would advocate for EXL170BTs, a balanced tension nickel wound set. I have these on all my fretted basses and am a real fan of both the feel and the sound.
  3. I was googling this very thing this morning as I have a shipment incoming from foreign parts. Everything seems to be OK atm except that drivers will now do contactless deliveries and sign whilst you watch and leave goods for you to take into the house.
  4. We have a booking for a private party in a couple of weeks time. I guess we'll soon know the decision from the client side. On balance I think the four of would do the gig; we're having practice tonight so maybe we'll discuss.
  5. Plenty of options here. Aside from my '66 Precision, the P bass that I gig regularly is the Highway One iteration. I've has a few different versions over the years (Squier Affinity, MIM, MIJ, Nate Mendel, American Special, American Standard) but this one seems to be sticking. Hard to say why particularly but the neck is great, the weight is very comfortable and I must be one of the only people in the world who quite likes the Grease Bucket tone circuit. Obligatory pic.:
  6. Anaconda Crusher CES4 Bass Guitar This is a pristine 2018 example of the genre, and was a (rather pricey) impulse buy if I'm strictly honest. The bass is in immaculate condition, mostly because I, unforgivably, don't play it often enough and when I do it's at home. Weight is just under 4kgs (8lbs 12oz in old money). I don't think this variant is available any more but similar Anacondas basses will set you back the best part of £3k. I should say the bass is immensely tactile and the neck is insanely nice to play. Spec: · Body: 1-piece Alder with Wenge top, oil finished · Neck: Maple 34” scale, oil-finished · Fingerboard Roasted Birdseye Maple · Headstock Matching Wenge · Construction Bolt-on (5 bolts) · Pickups: Bartolini BC4CBC · Electronics: Passive V/B/T, coil switch for each p/up single coil / parallel / series · Hardware: Hipshot Ultralite tuners and Hipshot bridge · Case: Lightweight styrofoam If you have any questions at all, or require additional pictures of any details please ask away and I give as comprehensive an answer as I am able. I would prefer to arrange some kind of delivery/collection/meet up if at all possible. I'm pretty flexible and willing to travel a bit if necessary. Courier would be the last resort and will be at cost to you. Trades-wise happy to consider most flavours. Only consideration other than that is the weight of the bass, this would need to be less than 4.0kgs please. Cash either was depending upon the exact bass in question. Some website blurb ahead of the pics: In 2013 Andrew Taylor-Cummings decided the world was lacking bass guitars that were centred around tone, tone and more tone. To fill this vacuum Anaconda Basses was born with and the bass world quickly embraced “the monsters of tone” their own mission statement, (yes a bass builder with a mission statement) is “to give more bass players access to hand-crafted professional instruments which deliver “Monster Tone”. Here are some pics. I can take more of any details you would like to see:
  7. We to see these guys at a gig. Outstanding. The girls are clearly the eye candy but there's a good band behind them, very tight.
  8. Just received a new llom from John following an ammount of email consultation about options. As always John's advice proved excellent and the new loom arrived in 24hrs and has had the exact desired effect. Thanks John, top banana! p.s. I must be due a frequent flyer bonus by now
  9. Hi folks For sale is an Audere Classic preamp that I had built for me for installation in a P Bass. It's slightly unusual as it is not part of the Audere standard offerings and was influenced by the Darkglass Tone Capsule arrangement. The controls are as follows: Stack 1 - Volume (top) and tone Stack 2 - Mids (top) and bass Note there is no active / passive option, but that is normally the case with Audere preamps. There is also an (unused) LED battery life indicator and the two sets of black knobs purchased with the preamp. All the instructions and bits are included per the photo. The preamp is fully functional and has only been in one bass. The only bit I couldn't remove from the original installation is the 'hook' part of the velcro used to secure it in the cavity. I found it really effective as you can dial in some really cool tones, but no longer have a use for it as that bass has now gone. If you have any questions please just ask and I'll do my best to help. £65 posted UK Mainland.
  10. We gigged last night in a local pub. Decent crowd too. We did take the precaution of ensuring the band mascot Bob was suitably protected.
  11. Just sold a bass to Ian (no doubt buying a bass from Ian in 6 months as is our tradition). As ever super easy to deal with and he very kindly bore the bulk of the travelling to pick it up from me.
  12. Thanks, I had a go on the prototype at a guitar show at Haydock last year and though it most agreeable. Having been selling basses and body parts to acquire one.
  13. Thank you kind sir. In the interest of full disclosure this is what's on order:
  14. Now sold, thanks for all the interest
  15. I'll have another shot but need clarification on a custom bass purchase for which I have paid a deposit but will have to pay the balance during the hairshirt period. Is that eligible spend?
  16. I have one of these for an expensive bass and I think it's pretty good. No significant movement of the bass and dead light too. https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Bass-Guitar-Foam-Case-by-Gear4music/C87
  17. Some time ago I did ask @skelf where it would be possible to build a bass for me that was entirely sourced in the UK. From what I recall of the conversation I think there was some doubt about the fretboard wood choice and some of the hardware comes from abroad. I wonder if that is still the situation.
  18. Hi Danny Interesting questions. Here goes: Probably not as much as I should have done tbh. I am consious of the CITES regs but not their specific content Yes Yes, I think standards are important and Alan at ACG who has made a few (OK, quite a few) basses for me is happy to advise on this For me personally, probably not so much as my main bass playing activity is in bands where I'm sure any small differences are not audible. Not part of my main criteria tbh Yes I do like this type of finish, that said I also have some relatively plain basses with no fancy tops
  19. Hi Hamilton, are we talking about a Lag bass here If so I can tell you that the EMGs open out the sound a fair bit compared to the Barts that were the original fit items and are pretty warm sounding in nature. Bear in mind everybody hears things differently! You don't need to worry about the preamp and loads of knobs to twiddle as the EMGs come with the volume/volume/master tone controls as are currently the case with the passive Bartolini setup. The only evidence is the need to locate a battery in the control cavity (for which there is plenty of room). I think I have a pic of how I set it up. When I first got the bass I bought some EMG MJs as I prefer a more lively sound and the EMGs provide that. They stayed in the bass until I came to sell it when I returned it to the standard set up. If you want a chat about it please PM me and we can exchange mobile numbers.
  20. We have what we refer to as the "Cheese Board" in our second set. This generally gets a pretty good response from the audience, the principle elements being: Living Next Door To Alice / Shangalang / Delilah (SAHB version) / Dakota That having been said, I think what we might see as classic rock other may may consider to be cheesey commestibles.
  21. Just met up with Colin to hand over a bass. Top bloke, great comms, instant payment and came out to meet me in some unpleasant weather. Thanks very much, great to meet you.
