  1. Guilty as charged Have some nice ACGs and Spectors but often gig less exotic basses. That having been said my golden rule is if it hasn't been gigged for several months then it gets moved on. That way I do rock up to pubs with unusual basses
  2. I had one of these for a while but with the scalloped headstock that I think came a bit later on the time line than this bass. Great instruments and very nicely put together as @Bassassin mentioned looks to be a great value purchase for somebody.
  3. Depending on how precious we are with what is a Precision then I've either got 2 or 4 Deffo 2 Fendery ones, a '66 and an '06. Plus a Spector LE'77 (active with Di Marzio split coil) and an ACG (passive with split coil 32" scale)
  4. There's a bass I'm after darn sarf that will necessitate a trip from Chorley (where I live) to somewhere M4ish. Downside is I need to sell the two basses I have up for sale before I can buy. But if all goes well feel free to count me in.
  5. Saw them in Manchester last weekend; excellent show and some good track selection, as in stuff you don't hear so often.
  6. I'm enjoying this thread most of all for the "Most surprising" category (I'm making a list and checking it twice) Also I have occasional mild regret when I see what folks post in the "Wish I'd seen" response as I keep doubting my own choice
  7. Bit shaky on the dates, and sticking to the more widely known artists but: First concert - Elton John, Italy, 1975 Last concert - Steven Wilson, Manchester Apollo, 2019 but might have been 2018 Best concert - Led Zep or Bowie - tough to choose Worst concert - Iron Maiden, MEN Arena Loudest concert - Alice Cooper MEN arena c. 2014 Seen the most - Porcuine Tree Most surprising - The Pineapple Thief - really good show last year in Manchester Next concert - The Musical Box (Genesis tribute act) tomorrow Wish I would have seen - Pink Floyd doing The Wall, had tickets and gave them to a mate.
  8. I recently discover a button on my Portaflex which gives a low bass boost. I was running my '66P into the amp with the EQ set with bass set at about 2 o'clockt; slightly more low mids and the treble tuned down to about 9 o'clock. Bass boost button engaged and a bit of foam squished under the strings next to the bridge; the result wonderful rich tones.
  9. That's how I prefer to deal with it Ms B
  10. Yamaha BB P34 Bass – Manufactured in September 2017 Re-listed for trade is my BB P34 bass, manufactured in September 2017. I acquired the bass in December 2019. I had heard good things about these basses and I can confirm that they are all true! A straight sale is of course still an option and I will honor the previous offer to sell at £850. Trade-wise I'm after a nice 4-string Jazz bass. Preference would be a US bass in Black/Black/Rosewood or Black/Black/Maple but others combos are possibly of interest too. Happy to consider CIJ/MIJ with some cash my way also. Highway One particularly of interest (with some cash my way). The neck is nice and straight and very easy to play on, currently set with a pretty low action. The instrument is in very good condition with only a couple of light scuffs from use as I have tried to show in the pictures but they are really hard to capture (apologies for the reflections, but it is very shiny and has been well looked after). The bass weighs in at just over 9lbs according to my bathroom scale and is currently strung with steel round-wound strings. It comes with a very robust Yamaha hardcase and all the case candy. It is a very nicely balanced instrument both on lap and strap making it very comfortable to play. The neck is fantastic, and very comfortable to move around on. If you have any questions at all, or require additional pictures of any details please ask away and I give as comprehensive an answer as I am able. I would prefer to arrange a meet up if at all possible, I'm pretty flexible and willing to travel a bit if necessary. 11. Absolutely, this was just my personal experience.
  12. I saved up for a year to buy Jetglo 4003 as they were/are iconic and a few of my fav bassist used them. Sadly the ergonomics did for me. I tried for about a year then gave up and sold it on (for a modest profit). My view would be if you like it, are happy with the ergonomics go for it. But buy a good preloved one and you will not loose money if the relationship doesn;t last.
  13. Sold elsewhere (for more than advertised on here) For sale is this lovely Fender US Precision Bass in Butterscotch Blonde with a transparent finish so you can see the grain of the wood and a nice rosewood fingerboard. I acquired the bass recently from ash of this very province and much as I have enjoyed playing it, a bass that I am keen to own has emerged from the shadows requiring me to dispose of a couple of instruments, this being one of them. Built in the Corona factory. this is a 60th anniversary US model. It has a single ply black pick guard like the limited edition model but note this is not the Limited Edition model (with the little diamond in the headstock) as all Fender basses built in this year had the badge on the reverse of the headstock. An alternative tort p/g will be included in the sale too. The bass is as built with the S1 switch and original pickups and hardware. It is light at around 4kgs and sounds and plays beautifully. The bass has just been strung with a new set of nickel round strings. The truss rod turns and the frets are in very good shape. The bass comes with a rather nice Fender gigbag. It’s in excellent condition with only a couple of minor dings at the tail end of the body from use over the past few years, none of which are down to the wood (please see the pics). The neck is in lovely condition as is the Rosewood board that has been cleaned and oiled. If you have any questions at all, or require additional pictures of any details please ask away and I give as comprehensive an answer as I am able. I would prefer to arrange some kind of delivery/collection/meet up if at all possible. I'm pretty flexible and willing to travel a bit if necessary. Courier would be the last resort and will be at cost to you.
  14. My main problem with longer B & E strings (almost certainly due to my poor technique) was that the string excursion for the longer scales meant that I could get the action as low as I like with setting off some fret buzzing somewhere. I like balanced string tension and appreciate the fact that for the longer scales you can use a lighter gauge for the same balance but short of playing with an overall heavier gauge that made the string too taut for my personal liking I just couldn't get comfortable. Pity really as the concept is a good one I think.
  15. @skelf made me this one; ticks all five of your specification
  16. Beautiful I now need to find an aged white bass with maple board and dark brown tort p/g to achieve the same effect.
  17. I have gravitated towards Dunlop Dual Design straplocks as they ended up being on the majority of my basses. I might even have a spare chrome set of the knocking about but I'd need to check.
  18. Of course what was I thinking
  19. Very nice, but be prepared as @eude has already warned you. I speak from experience; the full number of my ACGs will never be disclosed.
