Next up on the GAS relief project is my SB14. This bass has a couple of significant upgrades. Firstly it has the J East MMSR 4-knob, 3-band preamp and also the pickup is a Seymour Duncan SMB4A; the one with Alnico magnets. I bought it like this so don't have the original bits. Other than that in very nice condition. By my scales the bass weighs a nadge over 9lbs and will come with a decent gig bag. As ever I'd prefer to meet up and am happy to jump in the car and meet half way somewhere rather than risk a courier if humanly possible. Courier would be the last resort and will be at cost to you. If you have any questions please ask, or indeed if you want any more pictures.

Severe GAS attach so going to move a couple of basses at what I perceive to be mostadvantageous prices. First up is my Geddy Lee Jazz bass. The serial number dates the bass to 1998-99 so it will be on of the first production models as the series only started in 1998. The neck plate has the ‘F’ logo and Limited Edition engraved on it. The pickguard has an Amalgamation sticker on that can be removed if not required. The bass is in very good condition for a 20yr old with one or two very minor dings, please see the pics. The frets are in very good nick with little visible wear. The pickups have a good strong output and a nice warm tone to them. Everything works fine. The instrument weighs a little over 9lbs by my scales so not bad at all for a Jazz bass. The bass comes with a black generic tolex type hardcase. As ever I'd prefer to meet up and am happy to jump in the car and meet half way somewhere rather than risk a courier if humanly possible. Courier would be the last resort and will be at cost to you. If you have any questions please ask, or indeed if you want any more pictures. Please note that in real life the neck and the fretboard do not look as quite as red as they appear in the pictures. My lack of photography skills is at play here

Nice; is the s/s hound any good for metal?

I've owned a few MIJ basses, none specifically '89 but earlier and later productions and they have all been excellent. Never been able to A/B with a US P bass but, if it means anything, my current P bass is an MIJ Bacchus that is probably the best P bass I've played.

What about something like this? Nothing to do with me BTW.

It does depend on which version of the Legend.

I can't speak for the 5ers, but on 4-string basses I've owned both Legends and NS-94s (the series before the NS2000s). The NS-94 were built to a very high standard indeed and good as the Legends are if I had a straight choice (as in not allowed one of each) I'd reach for the NS-94. Maybe @cetera could also advise (resident Spector expert)?

Not sure if the Spector ones have obvious year codes. Email PJ Rubal at Spector and he'll sort you out.

Just picked up an SBMM SB14 that has been modded with an SD Alnico pickup and an East MMSR4 3-band preamp for a very decent price. Hopefully this will do the trick nicely. Seriously thinking of making it into a budget Old Smoothie with a bit of routing. Might be an interesting project.

I've just taken a bit of a punt on a Bacchus Woodline Classic P bass and I have to say that it's tremendous. Slightly smaller body than a Fender, so lighter and beautifully made (in Japan). For the avoidance of doubt Bacchus on the left and '66P on the right My phone has done weird things with the 3TSB both look miles better than the pics.

Hmmmm....Shell Pink Jazz, rosewood neck and headstock...?
ead replied to lou24d53's topic in Bass Guitars
How does Rosewood work as a neck material; is it stable for example? -
Gone over a year without swapping in and out basses.

That's a very disappointing attitude and one that I feel unable to endorse (and have zero chance of imitating) -
Yup, top bananas.

In general I'd say tort, but that particular P/G isn't really doing it for me, sorry Maybe somrthing a bit darker?

Update: Tort or Pearl scratchplate on my Jazz - what do you think?
