    Me too. Doubly useful when guitars are still in std tuning but the bass part works well in Drop D (e.g. the much reviled - on here - Summer of '69).

    Interested to hear what you think when you get to try one Karl. I've had two, first a 5er then a 4-string, but didn't really get on with them for a couple of reasons.

    Lovely. You're right about the tone, there is something different about a vintage bass. I recorded the same track with the band (who were very patient) using my '66P, an MIJ E series P and an American Standard, they all sounded good and yet surprisingly different (to my ears at any rate).

    My exact experience too. The forst expensive bass I bought and saved up for over 12 months for it.

    TBH I've seen more Euro 4LXs with the reverse P / J pickup set om the 4-string side. Maybe for 5ers its soapbars.

    I have much sympathy with this view. I very much enjoy my ACGs but with the covers band, live, my MIJ P bass just gets the job done.

    Personally I'm not a fan so switched to D'Addarios and have used them for several years.
