  1. Everything expands and shrinks (hot and cold), just different amounts due to varying coefficients of expansion. Care definitely need in this weather.
  2. Just acquired (another) of Ash's delightful basses. Top bloke to deal with and another great instrument. Thanks very much.
  3. My shame bypass filter is not that good.
  4. I use either a fretted / fretless pair in one band or, in the other band, one bass in standard tuning and one tuned down to Eb across the strings at gigs. The audience can therefore either watch re-tuning probably 5 or 6 times a set or being showy and having two basses. Fairly sure I know what there preferred option would be.
  5. I use one of these: http://www.radialeng.com/bigshotio.php Simple, robust and nicely put together. Basically one signal is adjustable to match the straight through item. Put the hot bass through the channel with the pot.
  6. Just sold a bass to Steve. Top bloke, totally hassle free transaction and was happy tommeet half way. Many thanks indeed for your trust.
  7. Amp flat for me too most of the time. Only exception is for 2-band EQ where I might give the mids a tweak if needed.
  8. Yeah i did the same on mine. The Sandberg black control knobs are not the greatest for instant visibility in a gig setting.
  9. I think that was his brother Tony.
  10. My '66P definitely sounds 'warmer' for want of a better word than more modern P basses that I have owned; maybe this is why I flip them. There may of course be other things going on like the body woods having endured 40+ years more seasoning, the nitro lacquer, the actual values of the electronic components as I'm sure manufacturing tolerances were less repeatable then than today. I took the bass to rehearsal last night as I hadn't played it for a month or so and was immediately struck but the tone compared to the other P bass I use more frequently. My 'other' P has a Nordstrand NP4 in that is apparently designed and wound to sound like a vintage bass.
  11. OK thanks. Am currently forming a cunning plan....although my success rate is up there with Baldrick's.
  12. That's really hard to say after several beverages.
  13. Although the TT and VM have found new homes I made the crucial error of messing around on the configurator today and now have an irrational hankering for this:
  14. Have you tried contacting Sandberg to see if they have a colour standard for it? The one in the pic I posted looks quite like the lighter colour. I think the bass was at NAMM last year
  15. Just acquired a gig bag from Martyn. Totally smooth and hassle free transaction, top dude.
  16. As I apparently look like Sir Nick Faldo clearly not
  17. This is the only pic I've seen of a bass with the new oak 'board:
  18. For me it's between 20 and 45 mins each way depending upon which band.
  19. Now sold elsewhere thanks Well I didn't think that I would be putting this bass on here quite so soon as it was to be my ongoing project and messing around on bass for the foreseeable future. It turns out that something that I have been GASing about for years has suddenly come up for sale and this is the least worst option in terms of fund-raising. This is one of those Black Label (black silk screened Fender logo) basses about which there is an amount of info online not all of it correct. My research tells me the following: The body and neck blanks were indeed made in the US and shipped to the Mexican plant. BUT so were all MIM basses at the time as the CNC machines were not installed at the Ensenada plant until later on. The woods were graded in the US and this is most likely to be a grade not suitable for a US bass. As far as I can tell the body is probably Alder. I think this is a Tradititional Series bass rather than a Squier Series as I can see no evidence that anything has been removed from the headstock. I believe the body and neck are the ones originally bolted together in Fenderland. and comes with a "mind the gap" warning :-) Pickups are high output and the electrics were scratchy, both have been replaced by decent items (see below) The 3-ply BWB pickguard is not the original item and has been replaced at some point but not by me. It is labelled Made in Japan on the rear. Not a 100% perfect fit but no extra holes needed. I have used brand new screws for it as the originals (included) were a bit manky Not 100% sure of the colour but I'm going with Torino Red Other points to note: I have given the bass a good clean and lemon oiled the fretboard The body is in good condition, one scratch c.10mm long - photo below The neck is in decent nick with little or no fret wear Tuners OK but not the best in the world. The electrics are now a decent quality set I acquired on here with proper knobs (the original electrics with white Strat knobs included) The pickup is a Tonerider item (the original pickups also included) Strings are pretty new Rotos I think that is all the pertinent points, I've tried to be as honest as possible but if I have committed any sins of omission or errors please feel free to point them out. The bass plays pretty nicely and by my scales is a little under 9lbs. The neck is fine, the truss rod works (as I have set the action to suit my playing preference). If you want any more info I'll do my best. Likewise if you would like any more pics, please just ask. I have hidden the serial number detail in the pic as a short while ago I did find one of my basses for sale but not by me. It starts MN5.... The bass comes with a pretty worn case with 2 of 3 catches working. We can discuss delivery/meeting up etc. so you can see what you are getting. If the bass needs ultimately to be couriered that would be at cost.
  20. I don't hate anything. There is stuff that I will choose not to listen to personally but then a lot of the tunes mentioned so far have sold millions of copies so clearly popular in some quarters. For me it's about the lyrics or some particularly interesting part of the playing irrespective of genre. There are definitely things in our sets that I like less than others but then the band is a democracy in the truest sense and everyone has their "suck it up" songs. I think it's true to say that the one songs we all feel fairly ambivalent about is almost certainly the most popoular in a pub on a Saturday night, so what do we know about anything
  21. I won't hear a word said against Kylie
  22. Top banana is Neil. Bought a gig bag from me and the easist of deals with plenty of comms. I hope the new bass is not too long in arriving now!
