Over time, I've tried to stop fretting about it.
I see what you did there.

For what it's worth my advice would be to hold off spending any money for now. Have a go at recording a few tracks with what you already have. Limited options can be a great spur to creativity, and having wrung all you can out of your current gear you will have a much better idea of where your money is likely to yield the most improvement.

Yup, found at the back of a cupboard during a recent clear-out. I can't even remember ever using it, though I may have done back in the day. I hate chucking stuff out that might be of use to someone, so thought it was worth a shot - there are a few "retro" fans on here I think. *EDIT* Actually I think I do remember why I have this; I used to do composing / sound design for theatre, and I recall one show where they needed all the cues on 1/4" tape with sections of clear tape in between to facilitate easy cueing up for the sound guys.

XEDIT "Edit All" tape splicing block for 1/4" tape £10 posted within UK. Thanks for looking. EDIT: the £10 is to cover postage and the hassle of packing it and queueing at the post office . If anyone wants to come round and pick it up from SE London they can have it for free.
I bought a Novation K-Station recently and it's brilliant. Big phat pharty sounds and 70s-soundalike synthy goodness. And programmable memories. I still regret selling my old Roland SH-09 back in the day, but practically speaking the K is the superior instrument in every way.
...not to mention the polyphony! I've had a K-Station for a few years and it is indeed a lovely thing. Still tempted by the new Novation Peak though....maybe one day I'll trade up, but I'm in no hurry
Oh also my first ever bass. My Peavey Milestone III, the bass that kick started my love for bass. I didn't even want to learn bass funny how things turn out.
My Peavey Milestone III is the only bass I own. Bought from a Cash Converters for £50 in 2005, when I returned to bass after a gap of a couple of decades. Then I joined basschat, bought 3 more basses, including a Fender Aerodyne Jazz, and eventually sold all apart from the Milestone III when I realised that none of the others played or sounded any better. I have no emotional attachment to it, but it does everything I need a bass to do, it's light, well-balanced, feels and sounds great. I can't imagine why I'd replace it, and I have no desire to collect more basses for the sake of it.

Why can't singers sing in the original key?
Earbrass replied to la bam's topic in General Discussion
Chart music is a tiny part of the totality of music. It may have a high profile, but it is an irrelevance. The "future of singing" is safe. It just ain't in the hands of western chart music and its purveyors.
+100 Anyone wishing to reassure themselves as to the future of singing could do worse than come along to the Union Chapel, Islington tonight (Sat 8th July) to check out Laboratorium Pieśni -

Somewhere I have a slim volume called Remarkable Names of Real People. I haven't seen it in some years, but a few of the entries stand out in my memory: Heidi Yum-Yum Gluck Zita Apathy Mrs. Belcher Whack Whack and my personal favourite... Gaston J. Feeblebunny
IIRC the only benefit of cassette tape over vinyl was convenience. Once CDs arrived it lost it's USP.
You are forgetting the recordability side - rewritable CDs came along a lot later and were still more of a faff to use (though far better quality) than cassette. I'm sure many of us will have memories of making "mix-tapes" or of borrowing friends' (expensive) LPs to tape.

Not sure whether to be depressed that people are so gullible, or pleased that this will boost the value of my 300+ vinyl collection (all purchased before CDs were available). Got to get round to selling that stuff one of these days. I will keep a handful just for the cover art / sentimental reasons.

***SOLD*** For sale is my Vintage brand VSA535 semi-acoustic guitar in cherry red. This is a copy of a Gibson 335. Lovely guitar in immaculate condition. Wilkinson hardware. I bought this new in 2012, and it has had only careful home use. Comes complete with strap and Kinsman brand fitted hard case. I am asking for £195. It's times like this, when I'm staring at a laptop trying to think of hedge-related puns, that I wonder whether I could have done more with my life. -
Do you hook it up as interface to PC. I'm after a di guitar pedal for recording as I don't get on recording guitar straight into focusrite.
Haven't tried it yet, but yes, you can do that. Will give it a go when I get my studio back together (probably later this week). You can see the full manual (you don't get a paper copy with the unit!)
And...?
Pretty awesome . Sadly its arrival coincided with having my music room redecorated, so all my gear has been piled up in another room and not very accessible, but I've been giving it a good run through its paces this morning and I have to say I am very impressed. Works great with guitar and bass and plays nicely with my Yamaha FC-7 expression pedal. These days I am only playing out with acoustic instruments, so this is just for the much-despised "bedroom noodling" and for recording when I get the studio set up again. All the amp models and fx I am ever likely to want/need, looper, drum patterns (though you can't use the looper and the drums at the same time for some reason). Very tweakable - you can move the order of fx in the chain, add and remove fx (up to 10 at once), assign any 3 to the footswitches in stombox mode, etc etc. USB interface for recording, headphone out, aux in (both on mini jacks). Solidly built. No on/off switch though. At £80 I can't think of a reason not to buy one if you're in the market for a multi-fx. EDIT: I forgot to mention that I wasn't too impressed with the tuner - it's too sensitive and the little arrow whizzes up and down while the note is still ringing, making it very difficult to be precise, but I'm happy to tune by ear at home, and I have a pitch black tuner anyway so not a big deal for me.

It says "temporarily out of stock" on the site - as it did when I ordered mine on Tuesday - but mine is being delivered today. Bargain!
