1.
What?... you only think you don't like them because you weren't there when buns first hit the scene, you couldn't possibly understand...
...well of course up to then, we'd only had bread rolls - often as not stale. You got the odd shop here and there that would try to fancy them up with a bit of dried fruit, but when the buns came in, well it just blew our minds. You cannot imagine the impact that had on a youth starved of innovative baked goods. I remember it was someone's older brother who first got some sent down from up north. We'd all go over to his place and just breathe in the smell. It was intoxicating. Then, of course you got the bun-bars opening up. All the hip kids used to hang out there. My mum was terrified of me going and getting mixed up with the wrong crowd - I mean there was a certain level of violence associated with that scene - the famous "bun fights" and what have you, but to be honest the papers blew it up out of all proportion. We'll not see the like of that again, though. I mean, I hear kids today going on about how buns are "boring" and old-hat, and how they'd rather have a full-butter croissant or a danish pastry, but they just don't realize that without the buns, well, none of that stuff would ever have existed. It's just ignorance really, and lack of respect. You can't tell them, though..they just don't get it.
 2. Is there such a thing as anti-gas (I suppose that might be anti-matter in a gaseous state)? I keep looking round at all the stuff cluttering up the place that I never use and really should get rid of, but putting it up for sale seems like a big effort considering none of it is worth very much.
 3. "An astrological object (a star) has been named Lemmy to meet the IUPAC naming recommendations" Yeah, that's going to impress the scientists. Embarrassing.
 4.
Plugs are fine but the bar staff aren't wearing them and neither are most of the audience.
This.
Pretty soon, IMO, legislation will come where noise levels are regulated.
I'd like to think so, but I'm not holding my breath,
 5. Had a small mid-life crisis in 2015, which took the comparatively benign form of taking up a new instrument and starting to learn a new foreign language. My number one musical aspiration for 2016 is therefore to get my nyckelharpa playing to a point where I feel comfortable performing with it in public. Number two is to find or form an ensemble in which I can play it. I've had an initial jam with a friend who has recently acquired a set of German smallpipes (he already plays the big noisy Scottish ones - we're not going there!), and have another friend lined up to play hand-drum(s) / percussion. Not sure how that will pan out, but if we can get together often enough to get some momentum going, it could be fun. Repertoire will likely be a mixture of medieval music and English and Nordic folk tunes,
 6.
So, you don't like any genre or any kind of music? The reason I ask is, if you don't like Motown or Stax you probably don't like any R&B, funk or soul music, right?
So if someone doesn't like heavy rock / metal / prog, or R&B / funk / soul, that must mean they don't like any kind of music, cos that's all there is?
Everyone doesn't have the ability to appreciate and understand multiple genres.
Ah, of course. If someone doesn't share your tastes, it must be down to their lack of ability to appreciate and understand. I think we've been here before....
 7. Värttinä - went to their album-launch gig last month in Helsinki. Fabulous stuff and well worth the trip.
 8. Väsen on Monday. To make it even sweeter, I will be attending a nyckelharpa workshop given by Olov Johansson before the gig. Bit scary as I've only been playing a few months, but really looking forward to it.
 9.
Anything by Flanders and Swann.
Oh yes. For example: From the sublime to the ridiculous - I know I shouldn't like it, but I can't help myself:
 10. I don't have any strong feelings one way or the other about the Beatles issue (despite having been around at the time), but I have to say I think the OP has been pompous, arrogant, condescending and more than a little ridiculous in many posts (in this and other threads), and I'm not at all surprised that people have reacted to this.
 11. As an erstwhile blues/jazz pianist, let me put the other side of the case. Yes, it would be great if every venue could provide a well-tuned, well-maintained baby grand for the visiting pianist to use, but the reality in my experience is very far from this. Where a "house" piano is present, at least in the smaller venues, pubs etc in which most of us play, it is all too often neglected, out of tune and with the odd dodgy key. No fun at all. Imagine if, as a double-bass player, instead of bringing your own instrument you had to use whatever the venue could provide - probably something that has sat in the corner for months without use and had the odd beer spilled over it from time to time. From my point of view, the advent of portable, good-sounding electric stage pianos was a god-send.
 12.
I have a couple of friends who are professional composers and they talk about writing ‘7 minutes a day’. They call it factory work.
That's be a British Leyland factory, then . (oh, wait, you mean writing 7 minutes of music per day....not writing for 7 minutes per day..... )

 14.
Stick man Bob Culbertson....
...was used as the model for The Saint's logo in the popular 1960's series starring Roger Moore.

 16.
The thread has teased out the fact that different people play for all sorts of different reasons. No real surprise there. I don't see any problem with playing to three people in a bar for £30, or nothing, or £300, if that's what someone wants to do. What surprises me is that people play a gig for their chosen terms and then moan about it. Or, in the case of the OP, assumed terms. And moaning about pubs not paying 'enough' seems about as useful as moaning about the price of petrol. It is what it is - take it or leave it.
+1. Wonder why you bother? OK, don't bother. You won't be missed and your place will be instantly filled by another band keen to play the gig. (Not aimed at the OP in particular).
 17.
I am hearing Gong music for the first time right now. I am really impressed with Mike Howlett.
Never Glid Before on Angels Egg features one of the sweetest and most tasteful 4 bar bass solos ever.
 18. Hawkwind's In Search of Space and Yes's Close to the Edge were both inspired by the period when Nik Turner and Jon Anderson shared an inadequately sized bed in a cramped Ladbroke Grove squat.
 19.
Lemmy needs the four of hearts. Don't fall for his bullsh*t!
I heard it was Master Bun the Baker's Son.
 20. On a related note, Rainbow split up because of intractable artistic differences between Ritchie Blackmore and Bungle.
 21. King Crimson and Deep Purple merged to form Maroon 5.
 22.
This music lark is a very asymmetric business and musicians will inevitably have an inflated sense of the importance and worth of their creative output.
This.
 23. I've seen some of these modern so-called "pop stars" on the telly - they're an utter disgrace. Not only could I hear every word they were singing, but I could quite easily tell the boys from the girls. It would never have happened in my day, I can tell you. A spell in a hippy commune is what they need. Yours disgusted etc etc.
 24. Not a look that will work for all bands, but....
