On the radio I recently heard the soundtrack to an advert for Rice Krispies which was specially written and recorded by the Rolling Stones in the early sixties.

Peavey Milestone III - £50 from Cash Converters in Lewisham. My only bass (I did have 2 of them, but recently gave one away) - lightweight, well-balanced, beautiful fast neck, jazz-bass tones. I just don't look at other basses any more.

I have the BDI21 - it's never let me down, and sounds fine to me.

Sabbath was my first musical love (aged about 10 or 11 I suppose), swiftly followed by Deep Purple and Hawkwind, and Led Zep a year or two later. I still listen to all of them, but I don't think anyone should feel bad about not liking them. Be proud to be different! I have absolutely no interest in Motown, or any other soul for that matter, which puts me in a minority on here - but who cares, really? There's so much music out there - go find some stuff that speaks to [b]you[/b][b].[/b]

Soprano is definitely my favourite of the sax family. I really like some of Lol Coxhill's playing - eg the [i]Fleas in Custard[/i] album (though some of it too "squeaky bonk" out* for me). *[i]squeaky bonk out[/i]: [i]I picked up this phrase from [url="http://www.janettemason.com/"]Janette Mason[/url], with whom I once studied jazz piano. In the spectrum of "out-ness" that jazz encompasses, "squeaky bonk" out is at the extreme end. [/i]

Lord Of Light (Hawkwind - Space Ritual) might be suitable. Good bass riff but pretty simple.

I think there's a lot to be said for sticking with one instrument as far as possible - getting so familiar with its feel and sounds that you forget the instrument and concentrate on the music.
