1. Peavey Milestone III - £50 from Cash Converters in Lewisham. My only bass (I did have 2 of them, but recently gave one away) - lightweight, well-balanced, beautiful fast neck, jazz-bass tones. I just don't look at other basses any more.
2.
Sounds like a pretty childish idea to me, and guaranteed to offend & upset people if you're playing a street party to celebrate the Queens jubilee that will have people from all generations attending.
Quite so - young people aren't going to want to listen to that old-time rubbish
3. Greetings from Brockley.
4. Mornington Crescent!

6.
Can't wait for that! This has got me trying to think of songs about hideous industrial accidents. The only one I can come up with is 'Big Bad John' ...I suppose there are several others about mining disasters as well. But they might all be a bit too PC for this thread.
There's Wreck of the Old 97 (about a train crash) as performed by Johnny Cash on Live At St. Quentin (1969).

I have the BDI21 - it's never let me down, and sounds fine to me.
8.
I didn't know Sooty had a guitarist. I thought Sooty played clarinet, Sweep played drums and Sue played piano. Maybe you saw them with a different line up. Was that their Flamenco period?
Surely Sooty is most famous for playing the xylophone?
9. Sabbath was my first musical love (aged about 10 or 11 I suppose), swiftly followed by Deep Purple and Hawkwind, and Led Zep a year or two later. I still listen to all of them, but I don't think anyone should feel bad about not liking them. Be proud to be different! I have absolutely no interest in Motown, or any other soul for that matter, which puts me in a minority on here - but who cares, really? There's so much music out there - go find some stuff that speaks to you.
10. You could also have a look at this forum - it's still quite new, but there are some very knowledgeable people on there.
11.
However I have something which IMO is far important in my sig - a link to my music.
+1
12. Maybe check this thread? Sorry, someone less fatuous will be along shortly to give you a sensible answer.
13. This probably won't be to everyone's taste, and there's no bass content, but I'm finding this quite mesmerising.
14. Soprano is definitely my favourite of the sax family. I really like some of Lol Coxhill's playing - eg the Fleas in Custard album (though some of it too "squeaky bonk" out* for me). *squeaky bonk out: I picked up this phrase from Janette Mason, with whom I once studied jazz piano. In the spectrum of "out-ness" that jazz encompasses, "squeaky bonk" out is at the extreme end.
15.
Sure.... that'll get the fire started...
Is it just because it doesn't look right, or are they really no good? I just thought it got closer to a db sound than an eb can, but eb skills would be much more easily transferrable.
16. What about using a Kala U-bass? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNPx6RS8PiM
17. Be good to hear more. Nice work.
18.
I'm sure that the majority of people that will turn up (which I'm guessing will be mostly teenagers)will instantly recognise it and be inspired.
OK then, how about the "Deal or No Deal" theme?
19. Lord Of Light (Hawkwind - Space Ritual) might be suitable. Good bass riff but pretty simple.
20. "To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world....” ― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Perhaps it's not about waiting for "the one" to appear, but about making the one you have "the one" by getting to know it inside out.
21. I think there's a lot to be said for sticking with one instrument as far as possible - getting so familiar with its feel and sounds that you forget the instrument and concentrate on the music.
22. Try asking this chap?
23.
Just recorded this for a friend. The new floor in the conservatory has given the room some great acoustics. Just a little bit of a longer piece but you get the idea!
What a fabulous sound.
This isn't a video either. I recorded it on a 4 track Fostex X-26 about 20 years ago. Drums were programmed on an Alesis HR16, bass was a Bass Collection SGC Nanyo DIed through a Marshall JCM900 twin combo, guitar was the same amp and an Aria Pro II super Strat with a Kahler. http://soundcloud.co...et-allowed-1992
I rather like that - especially the second half. You're really quite good at this guitar lark, aren't you?
