Simple suggestion, have you ever tried using your ring and little finger to mute the lower strings? It's an unusual technique but I have a similarly shaped thumb to yours and I've found it very helpful. So if you had a 5 string and your thumb is resting on the A string, you could have your ring finger muting the E string and your little finger muting the low B. I've showed this to some of my students who have had similar problems and a few found it helpful (most just found it horribly uncomfortable). Because everyones' hands are totally different there is no one technique that can work for everyone. Trial and error is the key

I recently started a new Youtube "series" if you will, called BassTranscriptions. The idea is to promote the use of actual transcriptions in notation as opposed to TABs (grrrr) as well as sharing what I think are some really cool basslines with the world. I've been sharing these amongst friends and used them to test my students on their reading skills but I thought that maybe someone on here would be interested...? Worst case it's some free transcriptions It's also a sort of challenge I've set myself to put one of these out every Wednesday evening to get into a work flow with the view of putting some more musical content up on the channel soon (thinking live play-along tracks, some live band recordings, musician podcasts, etc...). Any feedback at all would be welcomed, good or bad. I'm just getting a feel for it all right now

Hey guys, I finally got round to uploading a recording a few friends and I did last november at my "home studio". We got carried away and ended up doing a 10minute long take of one of our favourite songs : Can't Wait for Perfect by Bob Reynolds. I really love playing bass especially in these kinds of scenarios where you're just laying the foundation down for someone else to build upon. It just doesn't get much better than that in my eyes. I would love any form of feedback, good or bad, on anything to do with this video since I did all the production and editing too Cheers! Hey guys, Since I've been listening to Vulfpecks new Fugue State EP on repeat for the past couple of weeks I thought I'd go ahead and transcribe some of Joe Dart's tasty bass playing on it. Hello fellow bottom-end friends ! I'm putting this up for offers because I just don't use it anymore (fallen in love with my USA Jazz) and it's a shame for such a nice sounding bass! [b]ESP LTD F-404 FM (2008) See Thru Black Cherry. Serial : R0811553[/b] I bought this new in Feb 2009. Here's some specs from the esp website (listed as the 414 model which I believe is just the new model which is basically the same but made in a different factory, any ESP experts out there to help on this?) : Neck-Thru-Body Construction 35" Scale Mahogany Body Flamed Maple Top 5 Pc Maple/Rosewood Neck Rosewood Fingerboard 40mm Standard Nut Extra Thin U Neck Contour 24 XJ Frets Black Nickel Hardware Grover Tuners ESP BB-604 Bridge EMG 35DC (B & N) Active p.u. EMG B64 3-Band Active EQ Finish: STBC (See Thru Black Cherry) The only time's I use it now is for recordings. You can get an amazingly warm tone out of this thanks to the heavy mahogany body. I've chucked some Dunlop strap locks on it (still got the originals too) so I could throw the strap in too. It's got two tiny dinks due to it's "pointiness". The top of the headstock has a small bit of the finish chipped of and the same at the bottom of the body (see pictures). Otherwise just some surface belt scratches on the back of the body. Pick-up definitely preferred as I don't have a hard case to go with it. I'm based in Guildford, Surrey. Could meet somewhere as long as it's on a train line not too far away. Feel free to come an have a go on it too. I could trade for a 5 string.
