  1. Sectionals are perfectly normal practise in the classical world. Efficient use of time and stops the most mischievous and adhd sections of the orchestra- the brass and percussion going out of their tiny minds counting bars rest- only for the conductor to go back to start because the fourth desk viola was caught with their bow an inch above the strings.
  2. Apologies for the earlier quotation marks, that was my recollection at being what I felt was fobbed off and in my defence I’d overslept, was late for work and shouldn’t have been posting at all! Here is the actual answer I received: ‘‘We really prefer not to get into those discussions because there are no set standards for how companies come to their RMS ratings and the number Itself doesn’t really mean much on its own. We use the ICE 700 power module in the BH.5 and the Pascal SPro2 in the Bullhead 1K and they both have detailed specs online. I wish I had a more satisfactory answer for you as I know the RMS value is a popular number to use to compare amplifiers. But unless the number is achieved using identical testing procedure the number really confuses more than helps.’ Still don’t know if their amp would blow my speakers or not be loud enough, even as a ball park- no sale.
  3. I asked Trickfish straight up about their power ratings and they flat refused to give an answer. Similar to a post further up there was the ‘its impossible to qualify and there are so many variables’ argument. So I did vote- I didn’t buy one of their amps.
  4. Many thanks, fortunately a fair way away!
  5. Where’s he based please? I can only find ‘South West’ after a quick google.
  6. I was at Bridges for the last Kingsley extravaganza, although I left before he was on the dancefloor still entertaining after the rest of the band had packed up. My wife and I were there with Lisa Ward, we’re good friends with them after 15-20 sessions at the studios over the last two decades. I’m based in Hereford and work with a producer who uses Rockfield a fair bit, (he’s just had a number 1 record in Holland where the drums were done at the quadrangle) if he needs a bassist once in a blue moon I get the call. I love the place and I don’t think Kingsley will be turning it into a museum anytime soon if Lisa can help it, they’re super busy at the moment!
  7. Rockfield, the epicentre of Welsh rock'n'roll! Ever get down to visit Kingsley et al?
  8. Our drummer gets super nerdy over the two different cowbells in Hard Days Night.
  9. The thing about West side is although it is tricky, there’s not much in it that is stupid, because it’s arranged so beautifully. The Rumble certainly has some ‘corners’ (we never managed it the same every night!) but it’s clever. Let’s Have Lunch from Sunset is 10+ pages of bass concerto practically, key and time signatures changing constantly, all over the neck and just incessant. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oOMR6ecEPXI
  10. Spamalot is a laugh, I’m on that this week. Legally Blonde is a good one, Sunset Boulevard is a beast but WSS remains the best in class for many reasons.
  11. A) Nice socks B) Where are you based please?
  12. You beat me to it! My ASAT has the loudest pickups so the gain on my LM tube is barely on. I still prefer to do that than back the bass’ volume off and raise the gain. However, my LB100 has a much lower output, the gain is much higher and I think this does more to bring the amp’s tone out.
  13. Last few orders from them have come from UPS.
  14. Damn straight, would love to see them on there, the perfect band.
  15. Learn to coil cables and teach your band mates to do it too! Helpful but inept brass sections in particular!
  16. This primitive form of gambling requires a chequered floor to a coop with each square numbered. One then feeds a suitably animated poultry bird of ones choice with seed, places it said coop and the participants in the venture place bets of which number the animal drops it’s digested load on first. It is hiliarious in a very nice immature way!
  17. Great band, and I shamelessly ripped one of her basslines on a recent session. Nicely sparse and melodic.
  18. Great tips above but the biggest advance I made with nerves was when my teacher said ‘Be nervous’. Seriously, being nervous is actually your body’s way of doing better, and I’ve been that person incapacitated with tremors, the chronic self doubt and memory loss (and I’m tee total!) It takes a bit of getting used to, but the advice was if you’re nervous you’re about to create some seriously good memories. Peace out, hippies!!!!
  19. We don’t have this issue. We play to a more considerate clientele who weigh our subs down with alcohol based ballast, or clothing, or flowers, or candle wax or a first for tonight, bubble machine fluid. Still, the tops don’t go over.
  20. My rig on duty at Rockfield over the next few days. I have snuck in the lick from Think in tribute to Aretha.
