Bass Playing Listening Test - for my PhD research
Can you send me a copy?
Beat me to it, but I'd very much appreciate a copy please thank you. -

The problem is that, as we all know, guitard is based on retard, which is now a derogatory term thanks to the efforts of some Hollywood movies and the like. I'm all for challenging conversations and like that famous clip of the comedian talking about being offended, but in this instance the people being offended directly perhaps don't have the same capacity to defend themselves as others. I feel we should move away from both terms as intelligent respectful tolerant human beings.
I'll do my darnedest to try to watch everyone, even though fifteen minutes after coming off stage, sweaty, knackered and after breaking down your gear, it's actually the last thing you want to do. Insofar as etiquette goes, the younger bands we play with tend to be the ones who disappear right after their set and are happy to start carrying out their gear while a band is still playing.
Hands up I don't do many of these kind of gigs anymore but other bands disappearing used to really get my goat. What they don't realise is they kill the atmosphere for the whole evening, and by extension the live music scene. (Or at least contributing to the slow death) When they truck off, their crowd goes too and everyone falls flat. As many people in the room together for as long as possible, get the energy levels up, make sure it's a great night, more people show up next time. Best gig I ever did in London village ran the bill like Later. Headline band on first, reverse the bill, resident act on at the midway point then the bill in the proper order. Everyone was rocking.

Stopped gigging about 12 years ago, same thing really, travelling miles hoping that all the posters you'd sent, mailing list drops and promoters had done their job, everyone who'd said they'd come would actually bother etc. Couldn't go anywhere near a stage. Right tart now, will play for anyone who'll have me.
Make sure any dep you ask to step in for you is not a better musician with more band mates than you!
Or blonde, if you catch my drift.

A few years back I went to a rehearsal room in the arches under Clapham Junction itself. When we finished and we were packing up the police were putting up one of those 'did you see the murder that took place here last week' signs. Bit much for me, being Herefordshire based.

Can you speak to former clients? Ive heard numerous stories of 'legends' with great cvs being very difficult or only capable of one sound.
Cheers. If it's still there in January I may be in with a shout.
. Not sure the shop will be there in January, he's closing this year I believe. Following him on Facebook he's putting some very good bargains out there, make him an offer if you can.

Thanks so much for this, my two favourite moments from the gig.

That's great news!
Looks like a MusicMan BH-500 (made by MarkBass for MusicMan) if you ask me.
That's a great shout, the controls are identical. Obviously plenty could be different but I reckon it's just a rehash.

Went to see Snarky Puppy last night and did the obligatory gear stalk. The mark 810 was extremely obvious, but the head fooled me completely. The logo for a start being black type with highlighted background flummoxed my bamboozled brain (they play a lot of notes) but on closer inspection it turns out it's one of these... http://bassmusicianmagazine.com/2017/01/breaking-namm-news-snarky-puppys-michael-league-signature-amp-markbass-casa/ It sounds great, but must be the most unremarkable (see what I did there) amp released for a while, and I'm a markbass user. Any of you lot know about it?

Enjoyed the Cheltenham gig very much, including fix-the-kick-drum- pedal drum solo.
I've been hankering after an LB100 for a while now. Are you generally happy with it?
The nut issue is my naivety. That apart I'm totally made up. I'm a dyed in the wool G&L fanboi so don't expect a rational answer but it kicks ass. I find Fenders a bit sterile and bland, I played a custom shop on the insistence of the producer on a session and this had much more personality. The only trouble is USA G&Ls are hard to come by at the moment as the distributor is changing. Mine was the last new one in the country apparently. I'm hoping to post some phone vids of it this weekend!
I'd assume that you've already had the screwdriver's out and tightened everything you can. My old L2000 had a seriously annoying rattle, turned out that there is a grub screw in the bridge that pushes all the saddles together. Tightened it, and the rattle went away. My old Tokai Love Rock (LP clone) had a similar rattle, and the only thing that sorted it out was a change of strings.
All is in order with the screws, and that little grub screw is one of the little touches G&L use I love so much. Not the most competent person in the world with regards to repairs etc so trying to find the stomach to superglue the nut or just buy a heavier gauge, £36's not the end of the world is it?
If the paper works you don't have to change to heavier strings. Take the string off and carefully line the offending nut notch with super glue. May be as well to put masking tape either side to catch dribbles. Let it set and try the strong again if too tight, ease the notch open a bit with a fine file. Should do the trick.
Great idea, might get a few Harley bentons to practice on mind! Much appreciated.

Just jammed a piece of paper in the nut slot (ouch!) and the problem is resolved. I'll have a think about getting heavier strings, although it seems a shame as I thought these were would be on for life! Thanks for the help everybody. Harry

All good advice, I shall attempt some of this when I get home. Thank you Harry

Both things are correct, in my estimation. I'm fearing truss rod, which I've always avoided on my previous bass, mostly as there was never any need.
-
Thank you, I'll check both things.

I recently got a G&L LB100 with the intention of it being my ultimate soul machine. It came string with GHS boomers 45-100, and yesterday I restrung it with LaBella low tension flats, 42- 100. Sounds blinking marvellous but the D string is rattling behind the nut. It doesn't make a difference to the amplified sound but I don't want it to be a warning sign of anything else going wrong. The rattle goes away if I rest my finger on the string between the nut and the string tree. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it please? Thank you in advance.

I was once booked for the Prince's of Lichtenstein's stag do. Easy now. Before they moved off to more adult entertainment the idea was they recorded some songs as they were both keen musicians- the song they wanted to blag- Roundabout. We persuaded them another choice might be best.

Having dealt with a slew of charity gig enquiries this week this post made me laugh!

I love the look George's son gives him just before he starts, like, 'you're up, have it!'
