Seeing as a 750/751 is just a pipe dream for me, let's continue wishing, db412 in tweed.

Skittles out of the way, we did ours last night. Threw in monster mash, ghostbusters, time warp and thriller to be topical. Nice big crowd, dancing from the off, so it got properly hot very quickly. I was dressed as riff raff, so first job this morning is to wipe all the white and black makeup off I was wearing off my bass- it's got everywhere!

Doing one tomorrow.... Couldn't persuade the landlord to swop with skittles night😔
Thanks for the replies - I hope I've not sparked too much of a lively debate about it. On top of posting here I've contacted the examining board to see what the "official" answer to my query is, I'll let you know what they say!
Don't panic it's one of those things that's easier to do than read. Just start counting quavers a bar ahead of the signature change and you'll be fine. Oh, and practice the rhythm without the instrument in your hands, one task at a time. Oh and 9/8 is also known as compound triple, so conventially it's grouped into 3.
That is low! Between 12 and 1 for me too with a LM3.
Clip light for me comes on at 8 o clock on the dial! That's g&l humbuckers for you! Amp still sounds blinking great though.

The guitarist in our band just picked up, well became the owner of, picking up is nigh on impossible a 70s fender bassman 10. Glorious thing, first vintage amp I've tried that actually sounded good and it cost him less than a markbass combo secondhand.

Will give any music a fair crack of the whip- if it's sincere. a great analogy with music is food. Don't mind a mucky ds every now and again, don't mind Michelin star food either. Going to a pub and being charged Michelin prices for something ordinary hacks me off. Like listening to coldplay thinking they are of the same merit as radiohead for example, or U2 still thinking its 1987.

Well the foyer of the Barbican anyway.... Still would be nice to meet some basschatters South East way. We're on at 6pm. Feel hopelessly out of my depth on this date but also can't wait! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=byJLdz5v1Ak

what's the worst thing that's happened to you onstage?

Plastic 'top hat' came off the selector switch of my tele without me noticing. Gave it all the full beans at the end of the song, arm in the air for the final chord, crashed into it and promptly impaled my thumb by half a cm. Blood everywhere, couldn't hold onto the plectrum and all this at a posh hotel for a wedding. -
Apparently some comedians work on a basic premise on what to wear. If the audience are casual, they go smart casual, audience smart casual then wear a suit etc. pretty old school but helps when getting reluctant band members to dress well for stage. Personally I cringe when you go to a wedding and the band rocks up in clothes that haven't seen an iron since they were bought and everyone else is in their finery. On the comedian thing again though- I can't explain Noel fielding' attire!

G&L with l series preamp or the new m series. Unbeatable value and tone, far from the most expensive and pennies left over to spend on your flavour of amp hopefully.

This kind of behaviour is playing a large part in the death of live music at a local level. Expecting your audience to be entertained on the pain threshold of hearing and a venue keep it's license when your guitarists ego can be heard miles away does all of us a massive disservice. And no doubt you expect payment for this attitude.

Debut album for me only too! Great drummer and bvs, plus the first time I heard them was one of the first times I was out and about driving by myself in my mums Renault 5. Ended up doing about 15 mph so I could hear all of undone the sweater song being played by mark Radcliffe. Happydaze 😄

TAB is a crutch, useful but not liberating in the end. Plus, I've never been paid to read it, and haven't heard of anyone else who has.

Met my wife playing an open mic night. Haven't felt the need to play another such evening since.

Do the big name acts make cock-ups like us mortals?

George Harrison- all you need is love. Ironically George Martin hastily invented what was to become known as Linda McCartney syndrome as the solo is pulled down! -
What are they breaking..? Pedals..? Skins..? Cymbals..? Sticks..? Surely not the drums themselves..?
Cymbals go, but mostly it's hardware, lugs, pedals, stools, stands. They're not a bad bunch at our school, but they can't always be supervised when they decide to tune the kit with a screw driver somehow or that you can't carry a kick drum with two toms on it through a doorway sideways if you're 6 foot 2 and 16 stone! Over enthusiasm really. The Hartke though has survived being dropped down stairs, nights in freezing vans, numerous toilet venues in Camden and having one band deciding to find out what my Marshall tsl would sound like through it set to decimate. No problems, and quite good actually.

I still have an old very early 90s 410xl that I leave at work for the kids to abuse. It has taken the pain now for 13 years and even teenagers give up with the volume before it does! Sometimes I'll use the lm tube with it and it sounds pretty full and fruity to me. (Drum kits cannot take teenagers though, and we've tried premier, pearl, Yamaha and tama....)

Yeah it's funny it's not discussed more. Frequently killing time at uni I read their entire back catalogue of 'modern drummer', and they talked about this endlessly. Carol Kaye talks about it on her website, saying Ray Brown I think it was is always slightly ahead when playing walking basslines and I heard the isolated bass part for 'give it away' and Flea is definitely ahead, which I was surprised about. JR Robinson the session drummer says he's hired for his kick drum landing exactly square on one, and I once had a conversation with a guy who worked for Atlantic in the 60s who insisted on 2 and 4 being late. When people talk about 'feel' I think it's this that they are thinking of, which when coupled with articulation and dynamics are what truly put meaning behind the expression 'it's all in the fingers'!
Just love Joni I'm with Ambient on the Both sides now with Vince Mendoza arrangements, and I know a few guys on the album... recorded at my favourite studio AIR.
One of the great highlights of my life so far was recording in studio 1 on the day Joni was in lyndhurst hall. Our paths didn't cross, but my band and I were allowed to have a listen in the hall's control room to what had been recorded that day, as our drummer picked through the ash tray Joni had been using to give the butts as a present to his Mum.
What's the point of doing it at all if you're not enjoying it?
Do it in the hope it becomes enjoyable, the rewards don't come cheap. You reap what you sow and all that.
What's very telling here is that not once have you said that you are enjoying it. Frankly it really sounds like the opposite. Personally I'd wish them all the best and leave now.
Even if you're not enjoying it, give everyone the impression you are. You can turn around the whole atmosphere of a rehearsal with a bit of positivity and it makes it ten times easier to deliver any criticism. A session drummer I once had a conversation with, number 1 hits in Europe to his name etc, told me any session he does is always the absolute best thing he's ever played, even if he's playing the most mediocre material with any old muso. There's no barrier because of experience to not adopt that mentality.
