1. Bought a compressor from Stevie, a very smooth transaction with a really sound chap.
2.
Bruce Foxton in The Jam, and JJ Burnell in The Stranglers bringing the bass up front in the music inspired me.
Hearing the Beatles and Motown as a kid got me noticing basslines, the above got me playing.
3. I'm another H2 user, Great for live recording using the mics - even better using tape out from the PA I like to use it as a studio mic for vocals, cabs, ambient etc - standalone or into the interface It can be used as a USB mic or interface if you wish too...
4. You could use our humble home studio here - with drums, bass and guitar amps, mics etc available - very, very welcome...
5. If the'on hold' turns into 'for sale again', I'd like these for my old Traynor Bassmate. Cheers Mick.
6. These work well - great detailed sound for the size.. M-audio StudioPro 3
7.
You don't NEED a VSTi because there are some standard MIDI sounds built into windows (or standard soundcards, not sure). You do have to set an output for your MIDI channel.
Oops, It's been so long since I used the Microsoft SW synth - I'd forgotten all about it. I have only ever used MIDI for drums and keys as I record my own (and Wifey's) bass and guitar - so I never needed a full band file.
8. You need to run the midi file through a VSTi ( basically, an instrument added as an effect) to get sound - google 'free vsti' to see the multitude of free drums, pianos etc. I use and recomend Reaper so I cant help with adding a VSTi to Cubase... to add a VSTi in reaper you simply add a midi file to a track click the track fx button and add the instument you want. Reaper is an fully functional unexpiring demo, btw.
9. Sennerheiser HD202 - £17 from Amazon... Great bass and sound quality.
10. On my 80's Tokai Jazz... 37.5cm from back edge of bridge pickup 31cm from back edge of neck pickup
11. Bassmasta has this tab - haven,t tried it myself tho'....
12. I'll take 'em! I'm leaving(late) for work now - will sort this evening...
13. I don't get it... why the disdain? I really like U2 - have done for 25 years or so...

Soundcard?

If you are not using Vista, this Tascam might be worth a look...

You can send that DI straight into the line/mic in on your macbook (with a 1/4'' to1/8'' mono adapter) Not as good as a USB or firewire interface but it'll get you started with little outlay....
17.
I'm currently using Cool Edit Pro which only uses DirectX plugins. Is there an easy to use equivalent that uses VST's
How about easy to use ,yet powerful - unlimited tracks /routing and VST slots..... and will see most audio file formats and DX effects. I'm talking about Reaper, an unexpiring unrestricted demo - well worth the $50 registration fee... From the Reaper forum - The Good Free effect Plug-in Thread

+10000 for Reaper - so good I paid for it!
19. After trying out several DAW's I ended up using Reaper. It is an unexpiring, fully featured demo that will let you work on those songs using as many VST's as you want.... Tip: Add the (included) Event Horizon2 Limiter onto the master track, set the ceiling at 0.01 the gradually raise the threshold until you have your desired volume....
20.
Thanks to my bass tutor for this. It's a simple funky line that that will give that 'dit-dat-dee-dat' 'Get It On' groove. ------------------- --2----------------- ---------4----2--4- ---------------------
I'm thinking that would sound a tad empty with just 1 guitarist..... I play this, shuffles it along nicely ------------------- --2-2----------2------ ---------4-------4- ---------------------
