2. Sly and the Family Stone, most of it.
 3.
It depend where I'm coming from and what I'm playing next... also where I'm playing on the neck.
+1 and whether or not it's a thursday
 4.
I presume you mean this one: http://www.allparts.uk.com/online-shop/all...ass-p-1684.html £162. That's over two thirds what my entire Rickenfaker cost. But there are some much more expensive bridges on there. £325 for an entire headless system. Or £70 for a single string system (per string) with built in tuner. That would be £420 for a six string.
Yeah, I got a blemished one direct from hipshot, cost me about £125 after import tax and stuff. Got the heavy brass one too, it's lovely. And my rickenfaker is slowly approaching the cost of a genuine ric now, amusingly enough.
 5. Having just sold my SD rickenbacker neck pup on ebay, I have brilliantly lost one of the screws for it. Usually this isn't a problem, but for some reason, these are not standard sized at all. Stupid bloody things. I've tried every mounting screw in the garage (and that's a lot) even the ones that came with the SD bridge pickup, different again. I don't suppose anyone's got one lying around they're not using have they? Long shot I know. I don't really want to retool the holes for different screws right now.
 6. Amusingly enough, the bridge buyer has still to pay. Looks like Mr Gazumpy might get his bridge after all....
 7.
You did the right thing.
Thanks Dave, wasn't you was it?
 8.
Today's progress was going and buying Nitromors, a brush, a scraper and some marigolds. Plus the bridge arrived (cheers Beer), and it is the same as the original one, without the banana styling. Venue for the nitromors is the next challenge, not got a garden, aside from a concrete strip accessible through a window.
I like to use it just inside the doorway, so that I can choke every time I come back into it. Have to shut the door on it as well to stop my pets from walking through it and burning their paws. Dangerous and stupid I know, but you have to do what you have to do.
 9. Well exactly. That's why it would have been nice for him to have put the bid in before the end. Then I'd have known it. I wouldn't jerk anyone around, I've still got my 100% rating by not jerking people around, and a lot of it by letting other people jerk me around. Quite a lot. Oh, and Twit, I did have the allparts bridge, though I paid over the odds for one on ebay, before seeing them on allparts. They're alright, do the job, but quite flimsy (like a real Ric one). The Hondo one seems a little more solid, but I've got a hipshot on mine now, which really is f*cking brilliant. Worth the stupid money I had to pay to get it imported, every penny of it.
 10. I already posted this in the daily annoyances section, but I wondered if this has happened to anyone else very often? Ebay Muppets again (apologies if this is one of you guys, but FFS!) my listings all ended last night, not bad. But the chap who won the body, neck and pickup from my Rickenfaker has now messaged me offering me £20 more than the winning bid was for the bridge as well. Why couldn't he have done that last night? As a Bid... I'm sure there are good reasons.... And yet I am still kind enough to point him at another auction for another hondo ric bridge, along with links to allparts, and their ric bridge which is about the same as he was offering me to drop the actual buyer like a rotten cabbage. Moral high ground regained. Would have liked that £20 though, MOT and tax at the end of the month, be selling my ukuleles next...
 11.
+1! Whilst Stepping Out is a top tune, "Look Sharp" and "I'm The Man" (the albums) are where it's at!
+2
 12.
Modern polyester is pretty much impossible to deal with chemically as far as I'm aware, BUT some polyurethane-compatible strippers (nitromors?) may loosen it thanks to the sealer coat that's underneath it. Otherwise my powerful-hairdryer-plus-careful-paint-scraper technique worked surprisingly well if you can get it started with a chisel in a non-critical (i.e. hidden) area. It's better than a heat gun because it softens the sealer and seems to make the polyester more flexible but doesn't scorch the wood at all.
Try Nitromors specialist, in the orange tin. Gets the top coats off pretty well, won't get you all the way to the wood, thanks to the polyester sealer. But takes a bit of pain out of geting down there.
 13. Still very tedious
 14. Hi Dick, I'm guessing you play an Alembic or a Fodera or suchlike? Welcome.
 15.
bobfoc ? nice P though.
just googled it, ho ho ho....
 16. I go and do some actual work for an hour and this all happens again? Just when you thought it was all over. Gorilla amps ftw.... I'll get my coat.
 17.

Or you could do that, wish I'd thought of it..
 18. Squashed Vole Trauma, clearly.....
 19. The black wire going in the direction of the bridge is the earth, but it needs to go on the back of the volume pot rather than the output (though in theory it could go on the output). Centre of the green cable goes on the hot of the output jack (inner ring) and the ground from the insulation goes on the outer connector. Should be simple, generally, I've always gone for the "stick them all on, and if it doesn't work then move them around" method, til they get right. It's how I learn...
 20.
Even cheaper now you've scrawled 'Ampeg SVT' all over it.
Tip-ex wipes off easy
 21.
But to rag this back to reality.... are there any cheap lightweight options around - I hear a lot about MB and GB but for us mere mortals who have a couple of hundred max to spend on a top box, what would the recommendations be - Ashdown Little Giant 300? something similar?
Skint? Unconcerned about being chuckled at by muppets? Buy a GK backline 600, 300w of powery goodness for less than £300. Sounds better than my old ashdown did. And nobody has yet told me to buy a real amp since i got it. This is not a glowing endorsement, but it is light, and it is cheap.
 22. I'm sorry, was there a bass in those pictures? I got distracted... Must be good though, she's got an ampeg.
 23.
You've done what! Wanton vandalism. Anyway it'll make no difference in this neck of the woods, bumpkin yokel types don't even know their alphabet. Waste of good CORRECTION FLUID.
So stretching my dirty old grey shirts over the cabs and sticking ammonites on them was also a dumb thing to do?
 24. I have written SVT in tipp-ex on my GK head, that should work...
 25.
Well, as an ex-Ampeg owner, my Markbass and Sansamp do the job. All the tone, a fraction of the weight. I'd say IMHO, but that doesn't seem to be where this thread's at...so that's a definite. Anyone who disagrees is clearly kidding themselves...
I think Muzz was having a bit of a chuckle at this point. Hardly claiming you were talking sh*te.
