1.
Thanks for your input guys. And what in your opinion is an old beater, does it have a blk truss and spoons on the headstock? I've been thinking about this to rid myself of gas http://basschat.co.u...-l45-sale-only/ and working on the Tokai over a few months.
It's a Hondo P-bass, with a fretless no-name neck on it. Happily swap it for a Tokai (don't do it, really, those Tokai's are brilliant)
 2. I will happily swap you an old beater for your 1982 Tokai. I have a few.
 3. Bought a set of helicores from Chris, like everyone else says, perfect transaction, nice price, nice post, friendly comms. He worried about them taking too long to get to me before I did, they hadn't taken too long yet.
 4. I am a bit studioless at the moment, am setting up something temporary soon, but I do have a banjo, and will willingly drop in a track on someone else's work for them, as way too busy to do a whole thing this month. Will be back properly soon, promise.
 5.
I have dismantled and rebuilt easily over 100 bolt-neck basses and guitars, most of them 70s Japanese instruments made from significantly inferior timber to 80s Fujigen products - I have never had a problem re-attaching a neck. The screws cut a thread into the timber the first time the neck's attached, re-fitting it cleanly is simply a matter of making sure the screws engage the "threads" cleanly & not over-torqueing. In the event some ham-fisted numpty did manage to chew the wood up, it's spectacularly easy to plug the old hole with a dowel & re-drill it, anyway. J.
Jon is right, as always. Squiers are unfortunately associated with cheap tat, i think i destroyed my fair share of great guitars in the 90s, as they were squiers, and therefore needed to be Townsended at the end of the gig. Sorry.
 6. I was going to take a picture of the mighty shed studio as it is now, cos it was really close to being ready to do some work in. And then the rain came, and the wall became a water feature, the picture would make me too sad. Things are not good at the moment. Sorry to put a dampener (pun intended) on the thread.
 7. Ah, it's the one in the middle of this ridiculous picture....
 8. Had a red knob "evil" twin for years, loved it, but it was way too loud so i traded it in for a Vox instead. have now got another red-knob fender, which is like a twin cut in half, and currently so pickle brained that i can't remember what it's called. It is drowning in my leaky studio, so probably best i forget about it.... Think it's a super 60? Had lots of work done on it to make it sound more like a twin. it worked.
 9.
Every musician should play some piano and some drums. Every musician should have an understanding of chords, theory and rhythm. Every bass player should play some guitar since it's a sister instrument, and especially since any guitar player could play some basic functional bass, so every bass player should be able to play some basic functional guitar. There is no way it can hurt and no way it can't help. But wait...I'm sure they'll be someone who comes up with some excuse for that not being the case.
You know, we're going to agree on this one. Surely nobody can argue with that?
 10. I'd see it more as like the feedback forum, whereas now when you see a randomly posted gig picture, or a snippet of a tune posted in another related thread, it takes a while to hunt down more of their stuff (if you're daft like me) if we had this, you could hunt it, and find out all you like, with BC related heckling thrown in. Though I do see your point, it cuold end up as redundant as the Bar and Grill, or the oft posted in, probably never read "Show us your band videos" thread.
 11.
I'm just concerned that what will happen in this case is we'll end up with a lot of threads that no-one ever visits because no-one has heard of the bands. Whereas if we had one thread with a link to one song more bands will get discovered. Or am I just talking rubbish
But you don't get one thread with a link to one song, you get a dozen threads with links to a dozen songs, and they get lost. A thread per members band means you can find all their stuff, and when they have new stuff it gets bumped to the top. Unnecessary bumpage will be punished by letting Nige do their next review.
 12.
You mean like... facebook or the bands website I think it would be a better idea to promote bands getting discovered than just promote the bands people already know about
Yeah, but finding BC members bands on here (that aren't Kit Richardson, All the Queens Ravens or the Terrortones, no offence chaps) is not so easy when you are trying to remember after you've seen the threads at work. When you get home and think "I'll go and have a listen to that" you can rarely remember the title of the thread it was linked in, never mind where it has slipped down the boards to now. For example there's a band called cerebral smell or something round here, but i can't remember who's it is, and google's giving me nothing....
 13.
Cheers Dave! No demand as yet for a competition exclusive to people working in outhouses... but give it time mate, give it time
There is now! (if gav pulls his finger out and records something we could have that one sewn up) btw, was out there last night actually doing some work, it is a much nicer environment than the old garage was, and the frost heater and extractor fan are strangely calming. Need to remember to turn them off before turning the mics on though.
How about a separate forum in the Performance Section called Basschat Members' Bands or summat. No need to even pin them. Just a list of BC members' bands, created and controlled by the members themselves, they can sling everything in there.
This, definitely this. One stop shop for all your newfound favourite bands stuff. less hunting for things, more time listening/watching and enjoying.
 14.
Well if height is a problem and you need to raise the floor, how about raising the ceiling height?
Asbestos roof, under metal roof, all attached to crumbly old cob wall. Easier to cut my knees off.
 15.
And of course, the beer should be free too, because those thieving breweries are just ripping us off for having a good time, aren't they?
I wasn't entirely with you until you got to this point. And now you have my vote sir.
 16. Thanks gents, that certainly looks a cheaper/more sensible option.
 17. Update: Extractor and heater finally fitted. It seems a little better (well a lot in dry weather) and after the rain last night it was less damp, and more musty. I really must get a photo of the "grille" on the outside, which is just until i get a proper one. I done some comedy drilling in the outer skin for now. Also trying to work out how much it'll cost me now I'm running these things all the time. Plans for false floor being drawn up, and put on the very long list of things to do to the house. (also cutting my legs off below the knee, so i can work in there after raising the floor level).
 18.
I've got a bin liner full of old tapes that I really need to sift through someday soon. In fact, I started 'producing' music as a kid by chopping and looping samples using a bog standard tape-to-tape player. Massively frustrating and pointless it was too. But it's how I first got the bug.
i threw away most of my cassettes when i moved house in the summer. it was surprisingly emotional, i could remember where and when I got every single one of them, who i borrowed the original off, sometimes who i had nicked the blank from, and stuff like that. I kept a few for sentimental reasons, including a clapton tape my Dad bought me when i was 11, after persistently asking me all the way to the till, if I really wanted this old stuff that was around when he was a kid.
 19. Thanks chaps, I thought it might have been a Stagg or something, but couldn't remember where I'd seen that slanty neck pocket before.
 20. Unknown bass body, thru stringing, no control plate covers, output jack still inside. Solid wood (not ply) quite light, make a nice project for somebody. 30 quid posted.
 21.
I vaguely recall the download being available free with the option to pay what you thought it was worth. Or something like that.
It was, for about a month, and then the CD came out and it was pay what it costs.
 22. It's an EHX Octave Multiplexer, shockingly good for its price point, it owes me this much money, and I only used it a few times. Bought from Rich (Ou7shined) about 6 months ago. £40 posted to your door (or make me an offer, or come and meet me for a pint, i like doing business in the pub). One screw missing on the bottom, but other than that, pretty good nick, works perfectly, and makes scary noises if you want it to.
