I wrote a book about being in a covers band

Hi all, just to let you know that The Craft Room is on special offer at Amazon for the next week at only 99p in celebration of the Bank Holiday and the sun coming out again. If you fancy it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Craft-Room-Dave-Holwill-ebook/dp/B074XFDJR2/ref=sr_1_3?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1525334701&sr=1-3&keywords=the+craft+room -
That is because I have my Gran's old shitty Hyundai that will never die and I am a big ponce
-
I don't have to improve just because they want me to And you can't make me
-
I saw one for £100 in a second hand shop and did a double take the other day. I got mine on here a couple of years ago for £20. I will now never ever sell it, excellent pedal

Put your leads in your gig bag.

I use a clip on tuner and a volume control 95% of the time. What's with all the clip on hate? They fit in your pocket, they're cheap and they do the job. I do clip it to the mic stand when I'm not using it though, as it does look stinky poo. Conversely I also have a massive pedal board full of toys for certain gigs where synths, octaves, phasers and all sorts are needed. Depends on the gig really.

Update, like Neepheid I took it apart yesterday, and shorted all the contacts on the headphone jack by wiring straight across all three sets. It seems to be okay now, will report back later when I've used it a bit more. I never use headphones, and have no need of a mute while plugged in function anyway, so this was quicker and easier than replacing something I don't need to on the board.

What do you love about the Bass or Amp you choose to use ?
Dave Vader replied to lojo's topic in General Discussion
None of it cost me very much, and I've had it long enough I have no idea how to play with anything else -
Yes, that's why I play guitar more these days, where it is definitely all to do with the gear, more pedals, more instruments, more amps all make you better. Definitely
-
I have another drink, blame it on the landlord/promoter/time of year take my money and stop worrying about it. These things happen.
-
I've got the one bass I need, I've always had it (I've got two others for backup and fretless - and an EUB) And now I have the one amp I need (also a backup or two hanging about) Sometimes something breaks so I replace it. I try to give myself a long enough cooling off period to realise I don't need a new shiny thing when GAS hits. It doesn't always work. My main gigging rig all came in at less than £200, it owes me nothing and has more than paid for all the other tat I've bought realising it's all I need.

No Skol, this is good news. They are in the way, and chucking a blanket over the stack of guitar cases at the back of the room made more difference then they did. Skip time...

Landlord can "get bands for free", oh no.
Dave Vader replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
I sometimes play songs on an acoustic in walking distance of my house for alcohol It is often more profitable than the gigs I drive to with a car full of gear for money. -
Are my rolls of carpet underlay in the corners just taking up space then? Or do they make an appreciable difference in your opinion? I'm deaf as a post and hardly ever record anymore but would like the space back for bits of tat if they do nothing.

Conversely if my music teacher at school hadn't forced the entire class to either be in the choir or drop the subject, I probably wouldn't be able to hold a tune.

The solution to band problems is this: At your first meet up with any new band criticise them mildly, suggest ways to improve. If they get shirty, don't join. Some bands are more like support groups sometimes (not +support, oh you knew what I meant) (smiley faces to indicate this might be a joke)

Wrote this the other day after a fairly unfortunate vocal gig on Saturday night. Suddenly thought you lot might actually be interested in it. Singing is hard, tips to make it less hard are always welcome http://davedoesntwriteanythingever.blogspot.co.uk/2018/03/some-rather-more-helpful-things-that-i.html

So I gave a band member both barrels..............
And even when they do, it's still bloody wrong. I'm convinced people have just got cloth ears, 'musicians' worst of all! Edit: I think what is needed is a band consisting entirely of bass players. Bass players who are prepared to sing, play drums, keyboards, brass and guitars. Now that would be some band.
Every member of Dagobah also plays bass in another band. We're quite happy - but really badly organised sadly.
