1.
Tim's a great player too. His lines on The Long Run are great. Yep - he was only around for the last album and tour, and the 'new' album (which is mostly junk IMO) but, in total, he's technically been in the band far longer than Randy. I don't agree that they went t'pot after Bernie left. The post-Leadon albums are awesome, IMO.
Tis the joy of musical opinions, I just liked the rootsy sound, and not so much the massive stadiumy Hotel California thing. I should probably have just said different. Like post Syd Pink Floyd is different (and I like it less). Has Guy Pratt been in Pink Floyd longer than Roger Waters yet?
 2. I may have to watch this, I loved the Eagles for a year or two when I was 18ish (super cool I was, this was in the mid-90s) Always felt that once Bernie Leadon left it all got a bit sh*t though. I am right in thinking that Timothy B/ Schmidt really was only on 1 album though aren't I? So all this reunion stuff is largely lies isn't it? When you get Leadon, Meisner, Frey and Henley to do the gig, I might want to see it.
 3. I going for an uncle Mat (matsumoku) as they consistently stamped the made in japan bit on their neck plates. Also they messed about more then fuji used to. We really need Jon back here don't we?
 4. I use rotosound 10-52, and pretty much nothing else these days. Perfectly balanced, pretty cheap, and you get a spare top e thrown in free as well. Also those fat bottom strings just feel better.
 5. Bloody excellent thanks, first gig with the full line up with this band, they loved it, support band in encore shocker. Also support band in "run out of material so didn't play encore" shocker.
 6.
Cheers! But still doesn't change that I have no equipment, and no money for any I'm going to read it anyway, I need all the help I can get
Yeah, is a bummer, but Yep pretty much shows you how to get good results with nothing more than a microphone and an interface for your PC. So you can start getting it right from the ground up before you throw money at it. I built a portable vocal booth out of a cardboard box and some old sofa foam, sits on top of my mic stand with an SM58 in it, and works much better than it was on its own. Necessity and no cash are the mother of invention (along with frank Zappa)
 7. http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=29283 Read this Milty, makes a world of difference. Takes a long time to read it all mind, but really helpful stuff from the ground up.
 8. Still only took a couple of days, and most of it was first take.
 9. Glad you bumped it, I missed it first time round, and definitely need to read this stuff. I've been trawling through yep's "why do my recordings sound like arse" thread over on the reaper forums as well, but there's a lot of that... Good stuff Si. Thanks.
 10.
Kind of blue? Best selling jazz album ever.
What he said. About 7 hours and it was done.
 11.
I'll have to look up that series, I think I remember seeing a few clips from it of him tapping and stuff. I can't imagine being able to play with 4 fingers! The speed!
The laziness more like. I don't play that fast.
 12.
It was black actually. So perhaps what I meant to say was "It plays like the Guinness sh*ts"

 13.
You never play in 5/4, then..?
I have a thumb
 14. I use 4, it takes the thinking out if it.
 15.
I also used to own a Rick copy made by Shine which played like treacle.
What, brown and sticky? (I own a ric copy that I love and plays lovely, and looks cooler than a cool thing)
 16. I misread this as playing jazz is well hard. I was thinking that Bilbo was trying to get down wiv da yoof innit.... As is it, it's true, when you are constantly shifting key/mode/time signature with little or no rehearsal, the speed of thought required is mind blowingly fast. And these aren't the sort of gigs where you can just thump straight 8 roots for a few bars while you find your place. People notice. Give me long enough to prepare and I can do it, but normally when trying to run this stuff, I am realising what I should have done 3 bars ago and failing to look more than one or 2 bars ahead, brown trouser time.....
 17.
Sounds like you and I should set up some kind of asylum for afflicted musicians, Dave. Or maybe one for our wives!?
Yep, definitely, I often get a "what did you say?" followed by me having to say "nothing, just humming..." It is nice to have a permanent soundtrack when you're out and about. I haven't used a walkman/mp3 player with headphones when I'm out for years and years and years.
 18. some nights, never. But I can fake it....
 19.
It's an odd thing for me. And it's difficult to explain without sounding like a complete tw@t or a madman, but here goes... I have music running in my head almost constantly. Like tinnitus. It's always there - it just gets louder if I stop and think about it. I did some Googling into it once, but stopped when I read that it can be linked to the same area(s) of the brain that are responsible for schizophrenia: voices in ones head (not a split personality, as it's often confused). There are times when I literally have to scribble something down, or hum a ditty into my phone just to 'exorcise' myself of it. Which all probably sounds a bit crazy, but that's how it goes for me. The upside is that I've never (yet) suffered from a creative block. Quite the opposite - I get frustrated by not having enough time to bring each idea to fruition. So for me it's less of a creative process and more a musical illness! Though not one I necessarily 'suffer' from
Oh, I get this, but most of it's rubbish and I don't want to use it. So I alternately have blocks (when something I have been putting together won't stop and isn't good enough to use), and also no bits that go together, and can never finish anything I start as by the time I've got round to recording it, something more interesting is going on in my head. I thought it was just because I was a bit peculiar in the head. Keeps me awake at nights as well, dum dum dum dddddddd da da da dummmmm all night
 20.
Drunk people, as I discussed in another thread, seem to think that a bass player can play , sing and talk to them all at the same time. I have not mastered this troublesome technique as of yet, but would love to find someone who has!
A magical combination of head nodding, and quizzical looks has always worked for me.
 21.
Hey, cut out the iCastle bashing! I know he's not perfect, and has terrible market strategies, but at least he integrates perfectly with Mac. best, bert
He won't run any flash though, and his proprietary formats are a headache.
 22.
You know... I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only one on here who LIKES rehearsing! The reason, I get to hang out with people I like and play music and have a laugh. Having done that we can go play some gigs too
I remember those days..... Sunday was one of them in fact!
 23. Can I just chip in as well and ask if it will go wob-wob-wob-wob-wob to the same slightly crappy level as my behringer synth pedal? Cos if it does, i might just have to get one. I could do with a decent DI, and some other bits, and getting this and offloading my other pedals seems the cheapest option. Please answer the other Dave's question first, as he asked first.
 24. I thought you'd be finished by now Bilbo....
 25. You're not wrong there Gareth. I have been stuck with covers bands that do that, and others that thought they didn't need to rehearse when they really did. Been full circle now, spent years doing the original stuff, then got to my late twenties, did the covers thing, always with as little rehearsal as possible, and now in my mid 30s have gone back to originals cos some of the guys that do covers/turn up to watch are just unbearable after a while. There's a fine line in the middle somewhere. For covers bands, once every month or two to sort out new material is fine. Actually, for most originals bands that's pretty ok as well once you've got enough material to cover a couple of decent sets.
