And there are those here too who would have you gig once in a blue moon and be exclusive to them. Idiots. Edit: that came over all twisted, no? Ah well. It was.
Yes, I live round here too, I suspect we know the same idiots.

It is an instrument, music can be played on it, sometimes it might not sound right. But if it's an electric bass sound you're after, you should be able to coax it out. Can you fry an egg with it though, that's what I want to know....

Does this count?

I've done a lot of gigs like this. Me and my mate Rob actually based a lucrative acoustic duo on ensuring we made as many mistakes as possible, and made a feature of it. We started billing it as music and comedy, and every cock up we made was assumed to be a well rehearsed joke. Including the legendary version of freebird we did where Rob couldn't hear his slide guitar, and every single note was decidedly out of tune. None of it was rehearsed, we were just very drunk, and very good at laughing it off. People still keep asking us to go out and play again... weird.
My first gig was to an empty room (some people pooped their heads in a couple of times but no real audience). The only bloke there was the barman PS that was the highlight of my career. It was 32 years ago.
Well, the barman usually leaves at a jazz gig.....
It's nice that you're kind enough to let them down lightly, but don't you feel a bit like some sort of malevolent cuckoo, letting everything proceed apparently as normal until the situation inevitably goes tits-up - then fly off to usurp another nest?? Or is this just a flight of fancy brought on by these new meds that I think I may have taken a double dose of by mistake?
Slightly, but if they get their arses in gear, it could be quite a fun band to be in. But in the last 18 months we have rehearsed exactly 3 times, and never with the same vocalist. And the other one have yet to do anything, in about 8 months. Also might be a chuckle. People ask me to play in their bands a lot, and i'm crap at saying no, but quite good at leaving at the exactly wrong moment. I am not proud of this. I think i can do more than I can, which is why I now say, "I will dep for you whenever I am free" rather than "yes i will join your band".
That is your opinion.I wouldn`t imagine any band that started within the last 5 years would still be able to pack out a stadium tour 50 years later. The quality of the musicianship was a lot higher, and competition fiercer
You just wait for that JLS reunion in 2063, I'm booking my tickets now....

Worse than that, we did an extra half hour set of stuff they'd just heard. Nobody cared, they love it. We probably could have played the same song over and over again for an hour, and they'd have been fine. Punters eh...
-
1 and 2 halves, plus a lot of dep work at the mo. 2 halves as these 2 bands I am technically in, but they almost never get together to rehearse, and have as yet not gigged, i haven't the heart to leave them, so let them think they have a band. Until they inevitably just give up.

Band was an equal split of deps and members, although the only actual members there were the horn section and the drummer. Singist was a last minute addition after an emergency illness problem, and had not rehearsed the stuff at all, she spent the hour or so before the gig with an ipod and a pile of lyrics. It was a wedding, so no messing up allowed. Amazingly we pulled it off, even the very long complicated medleys and mash-ups that are in the set, terrifying stuff, and never been so relieved to get to the end of each song. We did the forbidden, and repeated material for the extra set they asked us to do, and even did THAT song (we felt dirty, and every time you play it a puppy dies) but made it through had a full dancefloor and got paid. Phew.

It is a G400, mate of mine gave it to me, and I did all the work myself, and using bits I had lying around. It's the best free thing I ever did have. And here's the Ibanez (before the pickups got switched over for P-90s)

Frank's seems fine. Probably all the extra electrics in the cavity though. My SG is an Epi, and it is stormingly good. Mind you it came with no tuners, so I put on an old set of schaller-a-likes, holds wonderfully. I also stripped it and put Di marzios in it (that I had lying about). If I can just get the neck to stretch out to fender scale it will be perfect.
-
The original RD series were 25.5" scale. Sadly the reissues aren't, and it gets expensive. Frank Zappa's baby snakes SG was 25.5" scale as well (wasn't really a gibson) The closest I have found to a compromise is my very old Ibanez, strat scale, and I rammed P-90s into it to get it a bit more gibsony and meaty. I love my SG, but I find once i get up to the top of the neck I am hitting a lot of wrong notes, and not the same wrong notes i hit on my Strat. Sometimes you have to forget about looks and just play the one that feels right. Or keep at it with the Gibson scale length until your fingers get used to it. Back when I was a kid I played both all the time, and never even noticed they were different, then somebody told me and it all went to crap.

Forum collision! What fx do you use with... (can I say it here?) EUB?
What does a northern voice sound like?
A Holiday Camp Compere.

Gloves like Nige. Or just keep doing it til it stops hurting. I'm fine on my fretless, but since I got the upright people are expecting the same slides on that. Owchy
In all seriousness though , will the entries suffer when mundane sh*t like the garden, and outside chores, and making hay etc while the sun is shining , and golf (WTF) but hey , and riding a bike , and summer in general tempts the musos out side ?
Will try and get to listening soon, but have been hit with a spate of dep gigs, that require me to spend most of my free time learning songs for earning money. Also just got reaper, and am havnig to relearn everything I thought i knew, so recording, once I am back into it, will be a long and painful process. And I'm moving house in July, so will have to pull the studio apart. Expect absolutely nothing from me in the next few months.

I am only posting here so I can remember to watch the clearly very funny version later when i am not at work. As you were....

All my instruments are buggered about with. Whether it's an upgrade is entirely subjective, but if i were trying to flog them then yes I would call it an upgrade. As it would help to sell it, which is the point of a for sale advert. isn't it?

I don't know any of these songs.....
Eh..? How's that going to work? Yours pretending not to understand, Mark
Well, the heels go behind my ears and then..... erm... I need to be more discreet about this (badoom tish)

Do you use the room's rig or take your own?
(that Fender Twin sounds very nice but probably isn't going to do the job for high gain metal)
Wasn't a Red Knob "evil" twin then? -
No.
Bugger.... Still like the look of them wedgee things though, will keep my shades on my face.

My Harley Benton head has started clipping way too early and was making some very odd noises over the weekend. Might have been weird phase issues with the keyboards next to me (damn he was loud) or just my old 15" cabs complaining at not having been out since December. But all very odd.... Will post again after this weekend, where i am using it with a more sensible band.
