Does anyone even look at the GIG page on Basschat?
Dave Vader replied to Spoombung's topic in General Discussion
I don't live in London, and when i am up there I am inevitably up there gigging myself. Most gigs in there are london gigs. Thus I don't get to many of them, do keep my eye out though... -
Always been a tinkerer, so never had a bass I couldn't get playing/sounding any good. Though I had a Yamaha BBsomething or other for 3 years, kept fiddling with the action, truss rod, everything, and never could get it to play or sound as nice as my trusty old Sunn Mustang... unexpected eh?
-
Anything I have desperately wanted to play, generally i can to a degree. Would love to be virtuosic on a Piano (no time to practice, so more of a Neil young style thumper on it) and am incapable of playing anything you have to blow due to 20-something years of smoking. So I voted higher pitched brass, as I am terribly jealous of our trumpet player.
I would get a little 1.0mm drill bit and drill the remaining bit then glue a tiny dowel of some sort into place then do the reverse to a piece that fits the knob or even the actual original bits if you have them? I tiny dab of araldite between the two and duct tape it all in place leaving it a good 24 hours and it will be as good as new! Good dose of servisol over everything and then keep a dust cover over it, I loved my old tnt
Genius, but a new 1mm drill bit (I have snapped all of mine) is probably going to cost more than a couple of pots.
Antique Electronic Supply in the US have a load of Peavey parts, but by the time they've shipped from the states it won't be all that cheap; http://www.tubesandm...=Brand%3DPeavey I replaced a volume pot on a friend's Peavey practice amp (can't remember the model) and the 16mm pots from bitsbox fitted the holes on the PCB well enough, though I don't know if yours uses the same pots. The one I used was one of these; http://www.bitsbox.c...ters.html#16pot The original Peavey knob didn't fit on them, but if you're going for cheap and functional, that may not be an issue.
That looks quite promising, most of the knobs have been lost over the years anyway. I look forward to using the TNTs at the local practice room dives, as they are in better nick than mine

30 years old and mint as a mint thing Fender....
Dave Vader replied to LukeFRC's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I like it, I don't 750pounds like it, but I like it. I will give him a tenner. -
So I have an ancient Peavey TNT 115 in my garage, and have had for ages now. here it is. IMG-20130130-00223 by Plastic Squirrel, on Flickr It still works (obviously it's a Peavey) but has a bit of a problem, which is...... IMG-20130130-00222 by Plastic Squirrel, on Flickr The pre and the low pots have snapped off and there is not enough left even to twist them with a set of pliers to just set and forget. I read somewhere that you can slam in any old pot and attach with three wires (obviously as long as it's the right value pot, I'm not that dumb) but was not sure if there was enough space in this one, so I took a photo.... IMG-20130130-00221 by Plastic Squirrel, on Flickr and then I took another photo.... IMG-20130130-00219 by Plastic Squirrel, on Flickr and then I though I'd ask you guys if you've managed to successfully fix one like this with the maplin pot option. Or if any of you just happen to have some old peavey amp pots around that I could get for cheap. I only want it as a backup/thing to play with in the house. So I'm not entirely bothered, if it's not cheap I'll sell it on for a project to someone, as it's eminently fixable. The other pots need a bit of a clean, as they have a "sweet spot" where they make sound, and the rest is crackle and fuzz. But I remember quite liking it back in the day when it worked properly. And it would be nice to have it back. Thanks for any help you can offer...

Rickenfaker Scratchplate - Daft Question Alert
Dave Vader replied to mrdreadful's topic in Repairs and Technical
I'm not sure the copies are that accuate. I have a Tokai one, the plate on it is a bit rough looking and I don't think its anything like the original plate. Also I cannot find anywhere that will do a truss rod cover
They're not, I had a plate made for my rockinbetter, to the size of a real Ric one, and I had to cut a bit off to make it fit. it says Rickenbastard by the way. Jon (Bassassin) made it for me before he stopped hanging around here. There are people out there who can make them for you, ask around, Oh, and I painted my Pickguard black rather than go through all the crap of trying to find a new one that fitted. I would suggest you do a tracing of the old one, and give it to Bass Doc, he can probably sort you out. -
Basschat Competition Bass (13 Guitar Co.) - CONCLUSION!
Dave Vader replied to Skol303's topic in Build Diaries
The most pleasingly bassy sound which fits what you describe, that I have ever got comes from an old kay pick up (yep, from a cheap EB3alike i got for £25). Slammed near the neck in my Fretless roadstar/warmoth bitsa. I am keeping the other one for the moment the one I am using breaks irrepairably, due to being from a Kay. -
can you get insurance from Interparcel? Last time I used them musical instruments were in the list of exclusions.
You can get it, but don't try claiming on it, as it will turn out to be in the list of exclusions.
Well I can't comment on the rest of them but I've sat in the bar chatting with Dave a few times before and\or after a gig and he's a really laid back guy with a great sense of humour... ... and yes, I do realise that he'd have to be laid back and have a sense of humour to chat with me before the rest of you say it...
To be fair to the rest of Fairport it was their sound guy that was being an arse about the rig they had hired off us. Though Allcock and the fiddle player were a bit stand-offish too. Dave was proper sound though.

Why do some people refer to their bass as 'she'?!
Keef just wanted one of his childhood heroes to sound great live for a change - but jumped thru' hoops to do it. Come to think of it - doesn't he call his 5 stringed Tele "Micawber"?
Yep. One of them anyway, nobody seems to know why, I like the theory that he got himself up to his elbows in debt to buy it, but then he's keef, and unlikely to get in debt anytime soon. -

Dave Vader replied to tedmanzie's topic in General Discussion
Ok then, here's a thing, as Musicians we are surely supposed to be imaginative and creative types. This surely would let us enjoy the metaphorical gender of our instruments, which we surely must have some kind of spiritual/emotional bond with? So as BB King has had a million guitars all called Lucille, it follows that it is not the physical instrument itself that we are so attached to, but the idea of the instrument. It is basses in general that we call she or whatever name it is we have given. As creative people, we should not narrow our minds to just call these things tools, bits of wood and wire that make thuddy noises, we should call them whatever ethereal beautiful and spectacular name they bring to the backs of our minds. Or, you know, Trevor or Bob or something..... Apologies, I appear to have briefly been possessed by some acid-fuelled-hippy-numpty, as you were. -
Looking forward to your appearance on http://www.27bslash6.com/ in the near future now MM.
