3.
I know, I know. I've resisted FX for nearly forty years. I don't want more than 4 strings though, that's going too far!
and here's mister discreet in a couple of months, hankering after the perfect tone... 4.
Cindy Laupers version of Roy Orbinsons 'I Drove All night' Wish I'd thought to put Cindy Lauper on the recent Guilty pleasures thread come to thik of it.
Hate to say it but Cindy wrote it and Roy covered it. sorry
5. MXR super clean boost should do it. I have an MXR with overdrive and boost in it, when it needs to go a bit dirtier I step on the boosty bit (and get blinded by the brightest blue LED you ever did see) for a bit more gain. I should probably add that I use this for guitars, not basses, so this is probably no help at all (pedals on a bass?!?!? you'll be wanting more than 4 strings next you freak... )
6. Sold oops my old fretless neck, he was a gent throughout the transaction, just a shame he was too far away from me for it to involve drinks.
7. Sold marvin my GK amp head last night, met up in the pub, he got the round in, top bloke, good deal.
8.
So what happens if you have a vintage strat that doesn't have those "2nd and 4th pickup selector switch positions" . Does that mean it's no longer a strat to you
Jam it with cocktail sticks, that's what I used to do. (then I replaced the stupid f***ing switch with a 5 way)
9. I said strat, cos it's been my number one for the last 25 years of gigging on guitars. However, i got given an SG a year ago, and it keeps proving it's a lot more versatile than I thought, and it keeps getting used more than my old strat does. Despite hating them for their ugly ugly looks for those aforementioned 25 years.. I have warmed a bit (but mine is not red, which helps) I also fixed up my tele last night, I like it, but it does lack versatility for most gigging situations that I find myself in, which is a shame. Staying with strat then...
10. I liked Panda Pops Green Cola, can you still get that?
11. what kind of "guitar-improver" can't put a new fret on... (come to think of it what kind of guitar player thinks you'd only use one string on one of your frets?)
12.
You mean (sans stars)...........? and
yeah, those were the only two pictures I could find of it as well. Was hoping for one of those uber-geek sites with loads of pics of it from different angles and close ups. Oh well....
13.
That Hofner looks like a fun guitar. I'd be tempted to put some sort of really old-school magnetic pickup on it if it were mine, maybe one of the chrome Schallers or similar.
One day i will get round to it, i keep missing out on the proper old ugly hofner ones on ebay. Would kill for a proper dearmond to go on it though.
14. 1956 Hofner Congress, I love this guitar more than anyone should love a bit of wood. Turner, got it relatively cheap brand new whwn I needed a back up guitar for gigs. kept this one and sold the main one. Old 50s/60s nylon string thing I got given by a friend of mine a year or so ago, it's lovely, has blonde sides and back as well, which is unusual, and sounds pretty darn sweet. My old washburn, survivor of a million gigs, and now sadly sold to fund me being able to eat regularly. Re: the electric/acoustic thing, acoustics all tend to look similar and less shiny. However, once you play a really great handmade one, you have to either try and forget you ever played it, or start selling kidneys. I went for the former option, and claimed to like the "lofi" sound of my old boxes. Hence the hofner obsession
15. It may always be that one note, but if it's a B on your guitar, and you play it as an open 2nd string, it will lack the power and majesty of Mr hendrix's 14th fret on the 5th string, which will give you that lovely squealy noise you were after. Tab, for stringed instruments, is bloody useful for this sort of thing. In conjunction with the score up above it as well of course, so you know how long to make it squeal for
16. I never realised how hard it is to find pictures of Lemmy's super-iconic ric, the "Born to Lose, Out to lunch" one. With the stars and the cross on it. Or I can't use google properly anymore (If I could only own one bass, it would be that one)
17. Every pro that I know teaches for the steady income. Except the pikey accordion player I met who is more of a long term unemployed claiming to be a pro musician, but we've all met them right?
18.
Won't electric strings on a cheap acoustic pull the bridge away from the body?
No, but they will sound utterly fecking horrible. particularly when you can get light gauge acoustic strings, which don't.
19.
We thought Nick Lowe would find it therapeutic when we set to his greenhouse with small hammers. However, he was absolutely fuming! Honestly, some of these rock stars don't seem to know their own minds. CB
You very nearly lost me my job then for a very loud snorty laugh....
20. I've played with noise limiters that were set off by the audience applauding too loudly. Also one that I tripped during a soundcheck by singing too loud before the mic had been turned on. Quality installations those.
21. Nobody done this joke yet? I am surprised. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTZZjemferM&feature=related Apologies, and please continue
22. Festivals for free are pretty good. This year me and the missus have got full weekend passes to 3 or 4 pretty decent festivals, and all I have to do is play a half hour set in the middle of it. That's saved me about a grand in tickets. Thanks very much.
23.
I met so many cool people on my [s]HOLIDAY[/s] VACATION to Aberdeen, [s]ENGLAND [/s]LONDON, but some of you guys wow wow wow.
extra fixy
24.
Did you spray the WD-40 on a cloth first? I find it goes everywhere other than where I want it normally
Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't (the sticky crap all over many of my guitars is testament to that) On a cloth is better though.
25. I started giving the strings a wipe down after playing when this kept happening to me. It didn't help as much as I'd hoped. So I started spraying a bit of WD-40 on them as well. This changed everything.(Because I have acidy gallagher type sweat) Also once had to smooth out the saddles on my old Ibanez to stop snappage. Helped as well.
