Guess the Bass! First one correct MAY win a Prize!
Dave Vader replied to Eljay's topic in Bass Guitars
I don't get this. The OP says hi to the UK, poses a question and offers a prize to the winner. The question is duly answered (with bells on)... and surprise surprise by a UK dude. But then it is revealed that his prize cannot be posted to the UK... but there may be distributors somewhere. Huh? Is this an advert? Did I miss something?
+ many. Seems a bit odd. -
Picks can be just as expressive as fingers, horses **** horses and all that.
I've got a huge grin on my face today (to accompany my tintinus!

but I have come home with no tinnitus this week
Oh okay, typo, made I chuckle though..... Seriously well done, good luck, and don't let the guys who've been doing it for years fool you into thinking it's hard. Look forward to your moaning about guitar players thread coming soon...

Harley Benton BA500H - Should I buy one?
Dave Vader replied to Christophano's topic in General Discussion
There's the identical red sub one. But otherwise, no. Unless you fancy a GKbackline600 really cheap (which i admit I replaced with an HB that i like more) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/177367-gallien-krueger-gk-backline-600-fsft-l125-posted/page__fromsearch__1 </shamelessplug> -
landlord switched off the mics because of over run
Could the elephant in the room be the fact that the most rock & roll person at the entire gig... Was the dude who pulled the plug? Nothing like sticking it to the man - and no clearer candidates than the ageing millionaires on stage. You don 't get more punk than citing Health & Safety regulations to those old corporate whores. No?
Damn straight Now if he'd just dropped some phat beats over the PA system to finish the night off after all that "old fart music" he would have my neverending respect. -
A funny thing happened on the way from my bass lesson
That and talking to turnips.
I misread that as talking to fumps.... works just as well. -

btw, I am still miffed about the oly white and black 79 strat that I saved for for months back in 1991, and on the very day i had that 250 quid in my pocket it had gone. I will never love another strat like that one, not even the one I have...

Back pre-internet you had to buy the thing you were lusting after in the shop before someone came in and bought it from under your nose. Now you can be fairly certain that something similar will probably turn up later on. This allows a cooling off period, which has helped.

You can buy basses that are more than £500 In all seriousness, my main gigging bass is worth approximately f&&* all, however, it is irreplaceable, due to finding all the bits I made it out of again being close to impossible. I'm not going to not use it though, that's what i made it for.

Your methods for learning new songs (covers)
Dave Vader replied to Cameronj279's topic in General Discussion
Always by ear. I start by listening to the target track at low volume.......who are tragic geeks.
Your approach is the one I always intend to go with mark, however, more often than not I am doing this.
Interesting thread.... I'm standing in for a band next week and have to learn about 30 new songs (70's and 80's rock). This will be a turn up on the nigh and play type gig, no rehearsal beforehand. I was only asked to do the gig this Tuesday, so learning all these songs on top of work and family life is a challenge to say the least. To make things worse, a lot of the songs I've never really listed to properly before and most aren't really my cup of tea at all.
Which means my usual way to work out a new song, is to stare at the guitarist/bassists (depending on the gig) left hand feverishly and hope nobody notices i am busking it -
Can I just say thank you for the picture of Kate Bush.
You're welcome, any excuse...

Another Homage to the Rickenbacker 4005 - The "Mickenbacker"
Dave Vader replied to The Legoheads's topic in Build Diaries
Nice work, looking forward to seeing how this turns out. -
I once opened up the holes with a big screwdriver and a hammer. It worked, but it shouldn't have. Round file every time (or a round knife sharpener that gets bigger as it goes towards the shaft, which works like a reamer, it's my favourite tool sometimes).

booooo.... bugger paramount...

I'm glad you put it back, i'll be needing that later....
... Hmmm... Well, it was a full 'Star Trek' band called 'the Crew' ..We did funky/jazzy versions of all the Trek themes plus many Sci-Fi TV & film tunes... Played a bunch of conventions (...some of the weirdest gigs I've ever done!) ... Did several TV appearances, including the Big Breakfast & MTV's Hanging Out... & it was a great gig in some ways.... but not what I was really wanting to do at the time!...
Are they still going and do they need a bassist/guitarist/trianglist/banjoist/kazooist? That would be the best gig ever..... :):)
There is more!.............. a lot more!... But I'm not prepared to go public!
That is the coolest thing ever, and I must persuade someone to let me do it....
-
It's just out of the question. Anyone found with blocks on a P-Bass must be lashed until they drop, kneecapped, hung drawn and quartered, then cremated in public on prime-time TV. Twice. Or until they agree to a neck with dots.
I'll tell kate, but she won't like it.....

Minor 7th, also lovely.
-
so versatile too - you can finger them or slap them!
Just like.... I'll stop there.

I handed my wearing of shiny suits over to pnefc42 of this very forum. But I did at one point do this....
