I once knew a guy who covered his Ibanez guitar in suede, and another guy with a green fluffy guitar, so it's possible,

Now if I was to seal it shut & insulate it I could get all this nasty musical stuff out of the way."
This is my house. (which sadly means i have to lug my gear out of the back door of the garage, and through the house to the front every time I have a gig, as my back garden is no place to be lugging gear).
Don't do anything! If the guitarrist is going to solo just keep the base of the song with your drummer. Blues solos are meant to be melow.
Tell Johnny Winter would you?

Ok... Your top 10 Bassists of all time?
Dave Vader replied to bassickman's topic in General Discussion
That one who did that dum dum dum thing on that old record, you know the one... The chap who did that cool thing on that disco record The dude who did that thing with jams brown that was so very cool The bloke from that hip-hop sample that goes dang, dum dum, doooommm bip bip The mwaaaahhhhh slidy compressy bloke from the 80s That slightly overdriven 70s ampegged up chap with the beard and the heavy as **** tone Solid-dependable 90s indie bassist guy That chap with the big standy-uppy bass thing who done the nice jazzy thing with Miles and Coltrane Super fast fingered heavy metal blokey with his foot on the monitor And me I don't tend to read liner notes or know the names of the band members, does it show? -
Thats only ok till some prat decides to move it, and picks the case up by the handle surely..
I am that prat, and have since stopped leaving my basses/guitars like this...
I think you have to be a tiny bit careful with effects in a 'traditional' setting. You listen to any old blues rock with a single guitar & bass, when the guitar solos, the bass doesn't really change much, check out
Check out Rory Gallagher and Johnny Winter, oh and Early Sabbath, for guitar solos with same bass tone, but shedloads more notes, also Skynyrd (I know they had 3 guitarists) but playing more under the solo actually works better in some respects. Particularly blues rock.
I went for Fender flats and absolutely love them and at £15 a set I love them even more Might save up for some Roto Flats to compare to the Fenders but at nearly twice the price I really need convincing that they are that much better.
+ the 1. I tried the Status ones instead, but didn't like them and went back to Fenders. Have had the same set on my P-bass for nearly 2 years now, and they still sound ok (in the middle of a loud rock band ) The ones on my fretless are 3 months in and still mwahhhhing very nicely (cos they're steel, and my board is ebony)
Okay, lets take just one of your examples- I'm sure it applies to most of them.... can you imagine Nirvana with any other bass player? what else would he do, he creates lines and plays them that are perfect for the song and the genre - If you don't get that it's hardly because of his skill. He played bass in bloody nirvana- what else are you going to call him if you don't want to class him as a bassist?
+1 And did you not listen to the intro to Lounge Act? Flipping great. Also, Mike Dirnt, intro to Longview, also ****ing cool as. And Sid might not have been able to play well, but he could swing the thing at your head better than most of us.

I find a simple "Thanks, it is easier than I make it look" followed be a chuckle or two usually works well.

Does active and passive inputs really matter in a bass amp?
Dave Vader replied to DanTheMusicman's topic in Amps and Cabs
GK amps usually have a -10db pad button which effectively does the same thing. but by pressing a button rather than using two inputs. -
Are there any stock Fender P-basses with a Jazz neck?
Dave Vader replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
Friend of mine has a 76 P, stock., but came with an A width neck, like a jazz. It is flipping lovely, so they do exist, you just have to hunt. If you're ever in Falmouth he'd be sure to let you have a go. -
Hooky's signed Hondo II Ric copy was in a glass case in PMT in Salford not long ago, with a scary price tag. Foxton's Ric copy was an Ibanez. Wonder if he's still got it?
I thought Hooky's Hondo got nicked?

As a bass player you can have one type of guitar- what would it be
Dave Vader replied to LukeFRC's topic in Guitars
Can't say as I blame you - that is seriously
Thanks Stu, it took 17 years to get it right, but it seems to be perfect now. -
What a tit! Ah well, means you can legitimately re-list it, I suppose...
yep.
Pffffffffffft, those aren't practice schedules those are evil work regimes! Am I literally the only one that picks up my bass as and when to either learn something specific or just generally noodle?
Nope, but many of us like to pretend that we are more dedicated than we are. I always seem to have a list of new stuff to learn as long as your arm, thus improving practicey stuff doesn't happen (luckily I am so ++++AWESOME++++ I don't need it )

Consider it accidentally shill-bidded... Worth a punt for £15 I thought.... only a few miles down the road.
