1. I like pimped cheap basses, I have 4 of them. I only own 4 basses, and there is nearly always one of them in pieces having stuff done to it. My Rickenbastard has probably had as much money sunk into it as a real Ric would have cost anyway now. Make of this what you will....
2. yeah get it open and clean out the electrics quick, I once lost a keyboard to vomit. (I still don't remember doing it, and only found out a good month later when it sloshed as I picked it up to take out to a gig)
3.
It's hard innit. How the f*** do violinists manage!
It's cos I'm playing with a violinist at the moment, that my vanity took over and made me swap out my lined neck for an unlined. Means that we are now both compensating for each other's intonation and telling the guitar player she's out of tune.
4.
Anyone remember Custom Sound/Trucker amps? Late 70's into early 80's and truly horrible.
I had 2 different custom sound guitar amps, and really liked them. particularly my 60w one, which after being drowned in a flooded cellar, dried out 6 months later and started working again with a really fat sound like it never had before. Wish I hadn't sold it now...
5. I've never before considered myself to be anything other than brilliant. But since going unlined on my fretless last week, i am less than mediocre with my intonation up above the 9th... boo....
6. Are you depping for Lunacry or the other band Marv?
7. As a massive geek, I wonder about lin-nux, vs. lie-nux. However as we linux users never actually speak in real life, it's never come up.
8.
That too, Grandad.
whut? You'll have to speak up dear....
9.
The main reason I don't drink much before a gig is not because I stagger about and so on, it's that I can't remember the bloody arrangements! I read somewhere that when you learn something, you'll only remember it properly in the same context, i.e. if you rehearse sober you'll forget what you're supposed to be doing if you're pissed at a gig. I've found this to be true. So if you want to drink before a gig you should drink before rehearsals, too! You know it makes sense.
This explains a lot... Mostly why it is that back when i used to drink all the time I could play fine after a fair bit, and that now I don't so much, it is having a weeny effect on my memory for the right notes. i thought it was just age creeping up on me...
10.
Arkh-h'weel-ar. I think you'll find.
dyb dyb dyb, dob dob dob we'll do our best etc. etc. (for chaps of a certain age and upbringing)
11. I still gig regularly with a 1989 Sunn Mustang P-bass copy, it is not well regarded, and came out of an Argos catalogue. I have upgraded a few bits on it (mostly cos they broke). it is very much old faithful. And I love it no matter what they say....
12.
Turns out one of the members at TB did decide to contact the family, so I am trying to see where things are going to go and then I will come back and post again.
What a tosser... why would they do that? Tis none of their business.
13. Flux capacitor fluxing....
14. SG by Plastic Squirrel, on Flickr Here's my VOX V-15, with my current favourite guitar, much gutted and mucked about with 99 Epi SG400 (Korean) with Di marzios and stuff done to it.
15.
Maybe going the wrong way about this then. You could try adding a small amount of weight to the rear or the bass to experiment. And the lower the bass until comfortable? I think somebody did this with a couple of small weights and some fishing line on here at somepoint
I do this with my acoustic guitars, saves a great deal of left hand wrist ache from holding the bloody neck up.
16. I have two of them knocking about, I've used them in a couple of different basses before, they sound great but I can never get on with the look of them (which is just stupid i know) but they are earmarked for a future fenderbird idea i've got. You won't be disappointed though.
17. I don't suffer from stage fright, never have (not what you want to hear I know) but I put it down to having no pride, or shame, and not caring much whether it goes wrong or not (thankfully it very rarely does, which has probably helped with the NGAF attitude).
18. CPCustomdubwise contacted me through the items wanted ad I put up for a fretless neck, and despite his only having 2 posts, he turned out to be thoroughly decent and very happy to use all the security of paypal payments. Top guy and pleasure to deal with.
19.
Whilst conducting this transaction,I noticed another BC'er was looking for a fretless neck.I had one I wanted to sell so contacted him and found him to be another genuinely nice person.(I'm firmly of the belief that most people are...)Again,I attempted to convey as much integrity as it is possible to do via a medium like this and we utilised PayPal for our mutual protection. So that's one purchase and one sale as my first activity on this site. In my opinion imposing arbitrary constraints like the ones described above WOULD be a deterrent(particularly, perhaps,to younger participants) and could even be viewed as counter to the ethos of a community like this.Everyone has to start somewhere here on BC
Yep, and if he'd had to have a minimum post count I would still be looking for a decent fretless neck at a decent price (or i'd have bought that crap one on ebay i didn't like). Which would make me a sad panda...
20.
I wish I knew, I play guitar not,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Dare I say it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, bass
Oh that was why they were so hard on you....
21. Yum. I like (want a green and black one now...)
22. Sadly i don't own the thing, I do have other things I could swap you for that jazz though... a genuine Indian fenderish precisionalike...
23.
just give it to me i can do you a straight swap swap for a blue/white J
Sounds like a sound plan.... hang on....
24. Hi CPC, glad you made the jump into the main forum. (still waiting on the postman... I have a nut though...)
25.
I pressed that button once and my PC got off with the guitarist's girlfriend and was sick in my gig bag. Never again.
