1. Pink basses look weird, i would totally refin that
2.
How about Dan Klingberg? he played bass on this jazz classic:
Damn it, beat me to it...
3. I miss having carpet, it was useful for sticking velcro cable tidies to. My cats miss it as well...
4.
Jolana: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c2459045f
and gone already...
5. I like fender 9050 flats, 100-50 gauge. been all around the place before i realised and came back to them.
6. of course they did this the DAY AFTER I ordered my strings from them...
7.
It`s funny though, thinking about this. Given how powerful bass rigs are nowadays, we could all adopt the same principles as our guitarist brethren, and turn everything up on full, and decimate the bands sounds, yet we don`t. I wonder why that is.
Speak for yourself
8. I have played in many a metal band over the years, you'll be fine in Black marv. Just add big white trainers and lots of studs (oh wait, the 80s is over?) Recently I've been in an 80s tribute, so shiny suits with rolled up sleeves has been the thing. Looking forward to not having to dress up soon...
9. I play an Indian Sunn Mustang all the time, it's bloody brilliant. They're supposed to be a secret though. Ssssshhhh..... Worth approximately f-all though. And it all comes a good 20 years after the CBS thing, more from the point where FMIC took over (hence the FMIC decal on the headstocks)
10. I live in Devon, most places are very cramped, many of them I have played and had to move my headstock out of the way so people can come in the front door/go to the bogs/get to the bar. I have got used to it.
11.
Teamwork. The engineering director of a software house said he'd hired me because (i) being a lead guitarist I had the discipline to hone my skills to a high level of competence (ii) being in a band meant I could do teamwork and cooperate. I think he also liked the blues/rock we were playing Plus, being able to count to up to 12 ...
Also that (i) and (ii) cancel each other out (also a lead guitarist myself, if we can't laugh at ourselves eh?)
12. I did some counterpoint stuff on the verses, and during the middle breakdown, and at the end there were some maracas, so i had a bit of an afro-beat freak out. Sadly the album version does not have this, as I am in the live band put together after the album was done. We have agreed that what i have done is better. Which is nice....
13.
Please don't bully me now!
Give us your dinner money...
14.
I don't have contempt for audiences but I do for time wasting, lazy musos. Being dicked about raises the constant question as to whether one can be arsed with it all.
welcome to the Devon music scene Marv, it doesn't ever get better.
15. I figured he had to be playing live, cos if he'd done that in a recording they'd have turned round to him and said "can you tone it down a bit mate, you're only the bass player...." You only get to go off on one like that when the can't stop you (cynical much?)
16. http://diymusician.c...campaign=022212 Have a read of this, some very interesting points he raises, most of which I actually agree with. :edited cos oi carnt speel
17. psst... my strat is set up as a floating trem, and dropping one string down to D, makes f-all difference on the tuning (though they are 11-54 gauge strings on it)
18. decent nut and a shedload of wd-40 over the strings. keeps any trem in tune. (oh and set the thing up properly as well) Bugger locking trems, had one once, and never left the lock on it. he needs one with a pushy d-tuner like Eddie has.
19. If you like how it sounds, then get another neck for it. If you aren't bothered either way, part it out and buy one that isn't broken. I sold a neck in this kind of nick on ebay a few years ago (and was completely honest about it as well) and it still fetched a good 40 odd quid.
20.
Have sent Marv a PM hopefully this thread has got my old bass back.
A victory for ****ing around online at work I think you'll find.
21.
7. Warwick Dolphin Pro 1 '91 - far, far better than the later '96 I had, sold to pay for a new staircase! Heavy though (the bass, not the staircase).
Where did you get your lightweight staircase from?
22. This monster is pretty unique, '83 Ibanez Roadstar body, with a neck i got at a carboot sale for a tenner, an old kay pickup in the neck (sounds awesome) and a seymour duncan ric pickup in the bridge. I love it and vow to finish the refinish job i never finished one day.... (I had a gig)
23.
being able to stare at jugs without suspicion more than compensates for any negativity.
this. very much so. Though it is for precisely these reasons that i am leaving the covers world for a bit. (that and that i don't need the money so much now) I have been playing music I don't like to huge crowds of people I can barely tolerate for 2 years, and i need to go and calm down for a bit and play nice music to 3 blokes and a dog at gigs that are 500 miles round trips and pay close to f*** all instead, so that i remember that playing songs I don't like to people i can barely tolerate is actually quite fun, and pays alright too. i give me about 6 months...
24.
My Corvette now owned by Marvin on here, incredible bass, should have kept it
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/168684-warwick-rockbass-corvette-l160/page__hl__corvette__fromsearch__1 maybe you should look at this Wayne....
25. I had a quick check, and you're wrong jack, Someone has stuck 2 Hofner labels on a really cheap bass.
