No idea how old most of my leads are, as a lot of them were gained in the lead trading environment of mid-90s multi band gigs in Barnstaple. My own purchased leads would vanish, so I would gain a few more from one of the other bands who I suspected of having made off with mine in the first place. Good times. Same with straps as I recall. I do have a patch lead that I bought in 1990 that I still use regularly, so that's 21 now.

I'm going to agree, I got too busy, it did my head in. I left some bands. It is easier, though if you only have the one band and they're that busy, you're f***ed mate. Seriously, I love playing, but when you start wishing you were home, or out watching another band (I still can't bring myself to bother when I'm not playing, I'd rather be doing something entirely non-related, which is upsetting, cos I used to like watching bands) it is probably time to wind it back a bit, before you end up hating it as much as a real job. Just had a weekend with just the one set in the middle of the local festival on saturday afternoon, it was nice to see some bands (and they were using my rig for the whole weekend, it sounds much nicer from far away, I'll be keeping that then hoorah!) have a few drinks and a bit of a laugh again. Am down to 2 bands now, and one of them will get the chop if I start to get a taste for weekends again.

What do I win? -
I own a midi cable. i will give it a try when I get more confident. When i have recorded in a studio I have always recorded one vocal left then another right, same with guitars is this not usual practice? With regards to the input it was simply select the channel then F4 lets you select. Anyone else recommend reaper over cubase? Many thanks. Mike
Double tracking is good, it sounds nice. IMHO keep doing what you're doing.

In order to feed my inordinately large ego, I must say me -
I'm tempted to give her the good news with a genuine smile on my face that I have signed her up for a Morris side. She nearly had a heart attack last year when I considered helping out the local Brass band on Timps....
-
I've recently gone from being the bassist in a Pagan heavy rock band to playing melodeon for a morris side. Do I win a prize?
As long as your Morris side keep away from me you can have anything you like EB (I've been worried I might find I enjoy it, so I'm keeping my distance, as it could only end in divorce)
Some might say you're trying to compensate for possible inadequacies by placing your instrument at said height
True, but some also might say I don't play anything complicated enough to need my left hand to be any use at all either Plus while you're all sweaty and hot in your trousers and stuff, I am lovely and cool, and not in violation of any laws.
-
Nope, always liked and played everything I can get my ears/fingers around Started out playing classical piano, went on to guitar (metal/folk/classical/blue/rock/prog/rockandorroll) and picked up a bass to help out with other bits, and still finding new and exciting music to play now, and I'm only 34... Have also branched into Banjos and mandolins, and cello tuned guitars, and mandola tuned thingys and other stuff

I retract my opening comments.... doh.
You don't use a case at all? You almost sound proud of it too. Mr T would undoubtedly pity you.

It's hard to say mate (I don't really get the vintage Fender thing) but I once bought a '70s Fender P body off here for £30-40 ... ok yes it wasn't being sold as such and turned out to have been modified but it was a scoop.
Nicely played sir. *hat doff*

Okay, but if it was a similar aged Fender in that condition it would probably be a great deal more no?
-
True, only once he's tried and failed at this (you are never going to do this without the right tools), he's buggered up the chance at getting it done properly or at least doubled the costs. Get a quote before going any further !!!
Not as much fun though, especially if the other option is to skip it or sell it for parts.

Where does technique end, and music begin?
Dave Vader replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
As an example... "Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rage at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light." Dylan Thomas
Bach
Versus " I know you are old but don't just give up and die" Me Both use the same technique (english) to convey the same basic information... but to my mind Mr. Thomas does it a bit more creatively
Motorhead Both valid and speak to different people differently, like Rothko's paintings (simple, and not to everyone's tastes) versus Titian's highly detailed masterpieces. If you are thinking too hard about the technique, the music will generally be a bit pony. Use what you know and use it well, you don't have to be Titian, he's already done that. -
Araldite, clamps, leave it for a bit. If it doesn't work then follow some of the other advice on here instead. Better to try and fail than never try at all... maybe
Low I`ve got a bad shoulder, and I find playing with my arm at full length is much more comfortable. I`d actually like to be able to play it at the same height as when sitting down, as it`s much easier for my fretting hand like that, but even 10 mins of that and my shoulder hurts summat rotten, so it`s low slung and cool looking.
This. Also, it is written that if you are a chap and unable to play your guitar/bass naked without breaking indecent exposure laws your instrument is either too high or too low to not look like the very thing you should be covering. Especially if you have a Ric or a Thunderbird.

It's a bit like a foreign language, you can't be fluent until you've learned all the technique (or words and grammar as they call them) -
Short scale 30" - mustang bass, danelectro longhorn Medium scale - 32" - Daisy Rock Elite, Some unusual Fenders - Stu Hamm (?) Long scale - 34" - Fender Jazz, Fender Precision, Gibson Thunderbird Extra Long - 35" - Lakland 5ers If you go for 32" medium strings on a Precision you *might* get away with it, and then the silks *might* go over the nut.
Thanks JLP, shan't risk it, Long Scale it is, need more than 1/2 a wrap on the Machine Head, and silks off the nut.
medium or long should both be fine. There's not a lot in it really. It's when you go to proper long scale (35" and up) that you end up wasting hundreds of pounds on so called long scale strings.
So I can get the £3 cheaper Medium scale ones and be okay on a standard scale P? I do hope that works.... Thanks.
Converted my beloved, seriously bastardised 20 year old Sunn Mustang P copy to active a while ago, wish I'd left if passive TBH - I scrimped on the circuit though, you get what you pay for! Depending on your budget maybe it'd be better to just get a Sansamp BDDI and turn the blend 100% off, gives you a 2 band active circuit I believe? Saves chopping your bass up and you get a very versatile and cool sounding pedal too!
Hooray! Another Sunn Mustang owner. Mine is also bastardised, but still my favourite, go-to bass for some reason. Maybe we could start a club?
