[quote name='bassicinstinct' post='1262528' date='Jun 9 2011, 12:17 PM']+ 10,000!!! Avoid the ubiquitous smiley face like the plague. Frown rules IMHO. [/quote] + another 10,000 Both for amp and your own face (if you do jazz)

Faithfully memorizing bass covers - how many?
Dave Vader replied to kiat's topic in General Discussion
If I try and think about it I will get scared and forget everything I know. So I will have to say too many to attempt to count. -
[quote name='lettsguitars' post='1261263' date='Jun 8 2011, 02:49 PM']+1 however if the bridge is original and the saddle are bottomed out. this would point towards neck relief problems.[/quote] Or that you have bought a Kay...

Depends, do you want Larry Graham low funking cool as all hell slap? Or Mark King bag of spanners in a dishwasher slap? For the former, flats all the way, for the latter, well you get the picture, spanners will be needed

Spare chairs from venue/ lean the thing against the wall (which occasionally results in a loud thud as it hits the deck) Or I did use a bucket once.... Tend to not need one now I'm running 2 1x15 cabs. Sometimes I plug them both in.

Odd "American" Fender Jazz?
Dave Vader replied to thatgrantboy's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That's one of the late 80s-early 90's "Boner" Jazzes. Google it, they're very real. -
[quote name='Lenny B' post='1259335' date='Jun 7 2011, 09:15 AM']I compared my strat and P-Lyte last night, and to my absolute surprise, this could be true, they're very close indeed The strat is slightly bigger, particularly on the lower horn, but the width and length are almost identical [url="http:///""]http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/40/plyte3.jpg/"[/url] target="_blank"><img src="http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/4180/plyte3.th.jpg" border="0"/></a> [url="http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/651/plyte1.jpg/""]http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/651/plyte1.jpg/"[/url] target="_blank"><img src="http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/1821/plyte1.th.jpg" border="0"/></a> [url="http:///""]http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/405/plyte2.jpg/"[/url] target="_blank"><img src="http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/3159/plyte2.th.jpg" border="0"/></a> [QUESTION - Why won't my photos embed?][/quote] Answer, cos you can't embed with html here, you need to use bbcode () with the URL inbetween the tags, and no round brackets (which I used to try and keep the code visible. Oh, and I must have copied your image URLs wrong as well, I can't embed them either

[quote name='ficelles' post='1257987' date='Jun 6 2011, 01:17 AM']I was really confused by this thread, as to me "Big Al" is a singer from Torrington But anyway having checked the instrument out I can only say: 1) too complicated 2) ugly ficelles[/quote] +1 I assumed people had taken badly to the recent Cult Maniax reunion gigs....

[quote name='thodrik' post='1253306' date='Jun 1 2011, 11:07 PM']Umm, I was obviously wasn't using the names based on commercial sales (though AC/DC for one have sold a boatload over the years). I never knew a requirement of 'selling out Wembly' or selling as many records as Queen was required before the BBC will consider doing a documentary, but looking at the BBC's track record. maybe it is! I was listing a bunch of bands that would provide for interesting documentaries that have not already been done to death over and over.[/quote] Yeah, check the high sellers they've done on BBC4 recently, Nick Drake, Sister Rosetta Thorpes.... (getting my coat...)

[quote name='warwickhunt' post='1251125' date='May 31 2011, 09:46 AM']Watched the 1st prog but missed 2nd. Love hearing and watching early Queen stuff but there is that point in their career where they went too mainstream and lost it for me... IMHO. [/quote] Inadvertently got this the wrong way round, love early queen. but only saw the 2nd part last night. Would rather have seen the first... after the 80s began they went wrong.

Tone, were they as bothered about it as us?
Dave Vader replied to silentbob's topic in General Discussion
[quote name='spongebob' post='1250378' date='May 30 2011, 03:14 PM']If your playing a pub/club with soggy carpet and flat beer, you can fiddle with the tone as much as you like, and it's still 'bass'! I think only bass players actually listen to what we do. Others probably just look at the [s]headstock![/s] singer/guitarist[/quote] Fixed -
[quote name='Ou7shined' post='1247190' date='May 27 2011, 03:12 PM']Right, although the majority of your catagories mean virtually zip in the real world .... GAME ON *clicks finger* [u]Mudbucker vs '51 SC P[/u] 1 brown note = win (although yet to be proven) 2 mud = win (it's a given, the clue's in the name) 3 weight = lose (lighter wins) 4 dimensions = lose (too much chrome - your words not mine ) 5 DC resistance = NA (+ or - means squat - too many other factors) 6 number of turns = NA (the presumption of more winds = better sound is flawed) 7 number of coils = win 8 amount of metal used = lose (bad for the planet and old bassists backs - also see catagory 3) 9 aggression = lose 10 top end = lose 11 growl = lose punch = lose 3 : 6 to the '51. QED old chap. I'll have your cards please. [/quote] As I recall it was always the higher number that won in TT... oh hang on, not on 0-60... sorry wrong again.

[quote name='neepheid' post='1247166' date='May 27 2011, 02:45 PM']I was thinking it would win brown note strength, mud, weight, dimensions, DC resistance, number of turns, number of coils and amount of metal used in the construction thereof [/quote] Oooh! Can you get pickup top trumps now then? (Who wants to put one together then?)

My beloved Sunn Mustang P-copy, which was my mates. He got it for Xmas 1989 from his mum, I used to use it a lot when it was his (still mainly playing guitar back then) and eventually repossessed it off him in '96 for beer moneys owed. His Mum still doesn't know I've got it. I still gig it, it's my favourite (after much hacking and slashing).

[quote name='son of frog' post='1246104' date='May 26 2011, 07:22 PM']cool, sand dry and then wet or just wet? about 1200 or 1500 grit? also i've done about 15 light coats now and the decals still doesn't seem to have sunk in to a factory finish... should i just keep going?[/quote] It won't go flat until you sand it down. It's like a little hill under the finish, the lump doesn't flatten out as you put more on, it disappears as you sand it out through the many layers. Also, it helps if you attached the decal to a fully finished headstock, as if it's not shiny under the decal, it won't match. Hope this helps

The strange and disturbing world of RICK-O-SOUND
Dave Vader replied to Cosmo Valdemar's topic in General Discussion
[quote name='stevebasshead' post='1245740' date='May 26 2011, 03:12 PM']That's how Ric does it too, the output socket nearest the bridge is mono and can have either neck, neck+bridge or bridge pickup depending on the selector switch position. The output socket nearest your knees is wired using a stereo socket but it's done so that the bridge pickup goes down one wire and the neck down the other, with a common earth. So dual channel rather than stereo is a better description.[/quote] Ah, so mine is wired wrong then. Get the output from the bridge pickup from the usual output, but the other output does nothing, it is silent. Will have to have a fiddle about... Not that I ever use it anyway. Oh, hang on, no I see what you mean, need a different lead to go from the stereo output. The other one is normal... not using both at once like my home-made stereo tenor guitar, right. To the cable box...... (Edited for suddenly realising I was wrong) -
Hello Bass peeps...First day on here..

The strange and disturbing world of RICK-O-SOUND
Dave Vader replied to Cosmo Valdemar's topic in General Discussion
I've got two outputs on my Ric-a-like, taken out of a Hondo. If I try and use them I only get signal from one, the other does nothing. I know nothing about Ric-o-sound, but had hoped it would send 2 signals, one from each pickup. It may be wired up wrong mind you... -
[quote name='Norris' post='1245430' date='May 26 2011, 12:04 PM']Alternatively, you could always grab an old 50's/60's number and rock it up a little. We have great fun with Del Shannon's Runaway. It started as an off the cuff lark about, but has now become a permanent member of the set[/quote] We had a similar experience with Rawhide.

Where could I buy a kettle lead for an amp?
Dave Vader replied to Clarky's topic in Accessories and Misc
[quote name='flyfisher' post='1244348' date='May 25 2011, 03:14 PM']Is it worth pointing out that almost everyone here refers to their "bass", which is stricly rather meaningless . . . . no, thought not. [/quote] Well what else would we refer to our Bass Recorders as? Wait? Is this not the right forum again? Bugger... -
[quote name='stingrayPete1977' post='1243593' date='May 24 2011, 10:31 PM']Like 1-1 1-12 2-12 2-5 etc looks harder than notation to me [/quote] Looks like Binary to me (almost) maybe we could read the binary code that makes up the image of the tab/dots on the screen?
